Well...so...while i realize they will patch and update this....for a release tech that is "integrated" wholy into the system it seems like a failure overall. Yes, I know the fanboys will give the usual excuses, but the reality is after everything that happened, if they want to prove people wrong and sell their new vision at the price point they are trying to justify, they needed to come out hard and flawless. From that review, I would say may have not met the level of expectation.

Patching it later....the new excuse for being mediocre.

It isn't just MS that is doing this. Sony also failed to deliver a "finished" product. The problem with the Xbox One is MS was really pushing it as more than a gaming device. Sony focused solely on it being able to play games and had zero hype about the media features (lacking or not at launch). MS is betting big on those being the things that stand out in people's minds, but failed to deliver everything they were talking about.

Obviously, that doesn't matter, as they are selling out quickly when they become available.

Have any of you nerds heard about how quiet the console is from the new reviews?

Arstechnica says
That extra size (of the console) seems to pay off, though, when it comes to keeping the system quiet. It's functionally silent from across the living room, even when loading data from a disc and running a game. You can make out some very low-level operating noise if you get right up next to the unit, but for most use cases, you'll be able to leave it on without your ears noticing. That's even more surprising when you realize that the system's fan is blowing a fair bit of heat out of the top grating after just a few minutes of gaming.

Yea agreed. It's not just MS. I was just pointing out that if anyone needed to come out swinging, it was them.

After watching all the xbox one reviews today, I can't help but feel that the xbox one might just be one generation ahead of its time. In a siri-like conversation based voice driven world the xbox one's need for exactness will not go over well and will be abandoned almost immediately by most people. Same goes for only being able to play live TV and not recorded TV from the DVR.

I've been pretty excited for the xbox one since the reveal and now I can't help but feel that it will be disappointing to me.

MS has to come out swinging? Why am I under the impression Microsoft still owns the gaming market? Sony is always copy catting. Nintendo exists because usually if people buy 2 consoles, it is one of them - lol.

I don't think so. Most people who would buy a launch console are going to buy it anyway. In 6 months, it will matter who has the most feature complete, because the people that aren't as enthusiastic will have time to hear about what works and what doesn't.

I think MS is going to have to deliver a lot more media wise than the PS4, simply because they are trying to market this device as the only box you need. I really do hope they get cable companies on board though.

The DVR thing, I'm positive, is restricted by the companies partnering with MS to let them use their IPTV. It is an easy software fix to enable that.

I do think MS was too forward thinking for a lot of the people talking about consoles. I was excited for all the all digital stuff and what that brings, but people want to still pretend they own the content they are using.

The thing about the voice stuff is you do not have to use it, the One will still work with a controller just fine

There needs to be separation between content they are using and purchasing. People should be allowed to own what they purchased. Once that happens I see people being more pliable to the restrictions and use cases of rented/streamed/or broadcast media.

IGN's Xbox One Pre-Launch Party is streaming live right now.

Currently they are playing Ryse... They aren't going to mention a score, or go into review details. However, their comments (as they are playing) are very positive. And the game is absolutely gorgeous.

A couple of things they've mentioned:
"People will be pleasantly surprised. So far, reactions have been lukewarm, but..."
"There's much more to this game than people have seen..."
"I want to replay this game on nightmare difficulty"
(A different guy) "This is a game that I want to go for all 1000 achievement points."

Interesting.

The problem is software has long gone away from owning to licensing. Games and media are fighting to get to that model as well. You can't (legally) resell your license of Photoshop or Windows and eventually you won't be able to resell your license of Madden.

MS was moving in that direction and had a lot of added features to go along with it (content on any machine, family sharing, easy swapping, etc). People just were upset with the activation requiring online (and a periodic check). I do think the every 24 hours was a bit much, a week or two would have been perfect and (like Steam) give the publishers / developers the option to have their games not require a check.

Xbox!...Xbox!...XBOX!...EKSBOOOXX!

/gets pissed listening to people shouting at their Kinect for 5 minutes, gets up and finds a controller and presses the home button to do the same thing instantly before throwing the controller down on the couch and storms out of the room completely unimpressed.

That was my first and only experience with Kinect.

It always comes down to the games. And according to many developers, there's very little difference between both consoles.

....6 months? A year? $500 (+) for an item that "sort of works"? .....wow people have gotten complacent...

I know (hope) at some point they make it an awesome piece of gear. The way they are marketing it as (basically) not a game system means they had more to prove than Sony. I don't deny people who are going to buy it will, but it's the people who are on the fence such as myself that they need to convince. That is not a small drop in the bucket. It's not about being able to afford it, it's about finding the value in it.

It reflects the state of the world more so than just MS. My gripe is MS had plenty of opportunity (after the outrage) to show everyone how wrong they were and completely WOW everyone. I would say, they didn't do that. Maybe in 6 months or a year or more they will...but that really is beside the point and just furthers the whole issue.

If it's just about the games, then I guess I'd get a PS4 because it's cheaper and 90% of the games will be multi platform. (Just saying). MS stance was it wasn't about that games. Again...they had more to prove given the scenario and cost.

Maybe it's my age showing...I guess I demand quality for something that is a premium.
