Agreed. Looks like a great concept, but the precision with Kinect just isn't there. Hell, the guy had trouble picking which characters he wanted to use.

If this is Kinect 2.0 I'm glad I didn't blow a dime on Kinect 1.0.

I'm going to guess that it's more of a crappy game, than the hardware. Because I didn't have that kind of difficulty with 360 Kinect titles.

But who knows...

?? MS has never owned the gaming market....not even in the 360....

Let's see, 360 owned the market for 2.5 years. Until GTA5 came out only very recently (SEPTEMBER), where their packaged GTAV +P S3 pushed Sony ahead in total sales because it was significantly cheaper than XBOX360's bundle. That is not a win to me.

"The PlayStation 3’s victory looks more symbolic than strategic at this point, as a single month of sales won’t make much of a difference in market share for the seven year-old console."

Microsoft owns the gaming market, Sony is a copy cat in everything they do. Nintendo exists because of people like me who need mario/zelda to survive, and their children who buy the DS.

PSN would not have existed in any usable form without XBOX Live.

The other thing is you're talking about a United States produced piece of hardware vs. Japanese. Japanese viscerally rejected the 360 when it was launched there (do you REMEMBER?). They have too much pride.

Oh, well that's good news then. I've heard the Eye isn't even close to Kinect, so when I saw him struggling with the game, I got disappointed hehe.

The PS3 move (with eye) was way more accurate in 1 to 1 motion than the Kinect.

In order of accuracy: Move, Wii, Kinect.

But kinect is a handless motion device, it serves better purposes. But for supreme accuracy, the move was not touched. Kinect is tracking your full body/joints, but it may not suit everyone.

PS3 Move archery/ping pong/etc. type games were splendid.

I think you are flipping back and forth by talking about two different things. If by "owned" you mean "market share," then MS by no means owns the gaming marking or has any semblance of a lead in next gen. I'm pretty sure next gen numbers are falling in Sony's favor. But at this stage in the game, I'm not sure how relevant those numbers are.

If you mean "innovation," then yes... MS "owns" the market. But I'm not sure why you'd choose that word.

MS did a fantastic job with the 360 if you can ignore the Flaming Ring of Death (RRoD is far too nice given the situation that put countless customers in). I own 2 360's and really enjoyed the XBL ecosystem, and you're totally right about PSN.

But that's the past. The question moving forward is whether MS' numerous gambles - and they ARE gambles - pay off. They very well might (there's a good reason I'm not in sales or marketing). I think they'll need a good amount of adoption by the former Wii crowd, because even moderately casual gamers are looking at the console as highly suspect.

Gotchya

I keep losing sight (haha see what I did there) of the fact that the Move/Eye requires the controller.

NBA2k is up next (on IGN's live stream)... I think Killer Instinct will follow.
They love NBA2k... Praising it as the very best looking next-gen game.

And I was wrong on the next game, it's going to be NBA Live. I'm certain they won't be as positive. LOL.

They'll be playing KI "soon".

A couple of things they've mentioned:
"People will be pleasantly surprised. So far, reactions have been lukewarm, but..."
"There's much more to this game than people have seen..."
"I want to replay this game on nightmare difficulty"
(A different guy) "This is a game that I want to go for all 1000 achievement points."

Interesting.

I guess what I'm trying to figure out is what sort of game it is supposed to be. Is it supposed to be relatively grounded in reality? I don't mean historically accurate, but rather we don't have crazy fantasy elements like gods and titans. Is the play style going to be more like God of War -- the sort of heavy-action, fast-paced brawler? (Not sure if "brawler" is really the right term, but let's go with it.)

I'm really picky about these games. For example, I like the speed of Devil May Cry, but I just cannot play that game very well. I don't know if it's a latent case of lysdexia, but I mix up my angel and demon weapon triggers fairly often, which usually results in me plummeting to my doom. In other words, too many buttons! I think the PS4-exclusive Knack is a good example of the exact opposite: too slow and too few buttons.

That's actually the horse I have in this race: will JD work better on the PS4 or Xbone. My daughter has been asking for it.

Keep in mind that getting it for the PS4 will require you to buy the $60 camera.

EDIT:

I don't understand why you guys need to curse so much in this forum.

I think most people assume the no swearing rule only applies to the tech sub-forums (i.e. stuff under the "Hardware and Technology" group). All Things Apple, PC Gaming and Console Gaming tend to be very loose and relaxed sub-forums. Surprisingly, there's rather little fanboy garbage like you see in Mobile Devices & Gadgets or Video Cards and Graphics.

I think the initial scorn of Ryse was because people saw QTEs and were like "omg game full of QTEs, this is stupid." and wrote it off. They eventually changed (from what I have seen) the floating X and Y buttons to simple colored outlines of enemies, which kind of hides the QTE-esque finishers.

I'm sure the game will look great and am just hoping it plays great.

Initially even if you pressed the wrong button or sat there and did nothing, the qte would be successful. I think that was for cinematic effect in the very first demo.

To be fair, that still comes out to be cheaper than the Xbox One. But you'd have to assume the Kinect is better at this point; a longer development cycle and such dedication to it that it's mandatory with the console itself. Maybe that won't translate over to games, but my gut feeling is Microsoft will win the motion capture gaming crown this generation.

No offense and all but winning the motion capture gaming crown is akin to winning a date with Roseanne.

I agree. But for the person who wants to play "Just Dance," that's an important consideration. For me, personally, motion capture gaming and 3D everything can jump into a lake of fire and die and never, ever, ever come back. But I'm not really "Just Dance"s target audience.

I'm with you. If it weren't for JD + my daughter, I couldn't care less about it. Massive gimmick in my book.
