Good to see I'm not the only one.

I have top quality blue ray brand copies and they won't play.

This is complete BS that a $70 BR player in a forgotten room can play BR copies and video files.

Never expected this from a $500+ machine....

Doesn't make one bit of difference to me.

Anyone else having really slow game install times? Also not sure if it was a glitch with battlefield or the x1, but i got the achievement for beating the game after the second mission.

Yeah DR3 and Forza both took a while. I dont remember if the ps4 installed my games any faster or not. I know AC4 took a while.

Picked it up Friday morning. My impressions so far after the weekend.

1. I couldnt get the damn controller working on the first try. I turned it on, the controller connected and I hit the X button. The next screen wanted me to hit the B button. I hit it and nothing happened. So I'm looking at the screen telling me to hit the B button, and I realize it is pulsing. Ah ha! It's a lag calibration test. So I hit the B button for about two minutes in unison to the pulsing B button on the screen before I realize its not an input lag test and restarted the console, controller worked fine after that with no issues. It was a funny, moment once it was working...input lag test...LOL.

2. I'm having an absolute blast with all the games. BF4 is insane playing conquest on a full server and using the smartglass companion app with the overhead map showing realtime player positioning, way cool! KI is great. Forza is the shit! DR3 is crazy good! And lastly, COD is...COD, kinda meh.

3. The voice inputs work ok. I'd say around 85% of the time for me, if it can get tightened up that'd be great.

4. The TV app didnt work a few times and the only way I've found to fix it was to restart the xbox, except there isn't an easy way to do it that I can find. So far the only easy way to restart the xbox is to rename the system. Just using xbox on or off doesnt seem to straighten out the TV app when it goes to the blank screen.

5. Surround sound. The sound itself is great, it's pushing 7.1 PCM uncompressed. But, I would really like for the DTS-HD and Dolby TrueHD lights on my receiver to be lit up, so I hope they fix it to where it just bitstreams the right codec to my receiver so it'll show up as DTS or TrueHD.

6. Love it, and I think with a few software updates it'll be that much better. I see the vision they had, and I also see why the kinect is included. You'd really miss out on a lot of the experience without it.

Yuck. Any player that can't deal with burned fanedits (such as Harmy's wonderful Stars Wars Despecialized Edition) is completely unacceptable to me.

The console defaults to "Instant On" power setting, meaning that turning it off puts it into a stand-by of sorts. I can only think of two things you can try:

1. Change power setting to "Energy Saving" and then turn it off. Upon booting back up, you'll get the Xbox One log on a green screen, this lets you know it's a full boot.
2. I don't know if this works or not and can't test it since I'm at work, but I would think it would. Launch the TV app and then go back to the home screen with it highlighted in the main square. Press the menu button (i.e. Start) and chose "Quit" from the menu. This will close it fully out and let you launch it fresh. This works with any apps, btw. This is assuming you can launch the app but it doesn't work. If you can't launch the app, then that obviously does you no good.

been hearing really good things about ryse and was watching a stream of it last night. i am definitely going to pick it up at some point to play single player. the sound and graphics in that game look amazing. i'm surprised by all of the crappy reviews after hearing everyone who has played it say how awesome it is. since i don't care for multiplayer in it i doubt that i will really want to pay more than like $30 or $40 for it though.

Yeah, I knew that about the energy saving thing, I just wish there was a "restart" button or option somewhere as aside from changing thing energy setting, the only way to do a full boot is change the name (that i've found at least). As far as the app. It doesn't launch, it'll show the tv icon and then say it cant load the app. When it does that the only way to get tv back that i can tell is restart the console.

Having never used SmartGlass before, what is it supposed to do? I have the app for iOS and when I was playing DR3, I opened it, it found my console. I went into the DR3 and selected companion, but it never does anything form there. Just a government seal picture and nothing else. Am I missing something?

I think with DR3, you have to access your phone in-game, which will then mimic the phone display on your phone. I'm basing this guess from what I've read, so I could be completely wrong.

COD ghost barely looks any better on XB1 than 360 though. Pretty disappointed about that. BF4 looks amazing compared to the beta that I played on 360. Having lots of fun with that.

I will have to mess around with it some more, but I have no idea.

I really don't see the DR3 complaints being valid after putting in a good number of hours (pretty much all I did this weekend, lol). There is some texture pop (mohawks on some people are notorious and only once have I hit a wall that popped before I hit it), but other than that having 650+ zombies on screen at once is an amazing trade off. That is the highest combo I've gotten, so I don't know the exact number. I imagine it is much higher, as I've read of someone getting a 1000+ combo. I haven't hit any slowdowns yet either.

I'm seriously thinking about picking up DR3 as my final launch game. The co-op seems like it would be super fun.

not sure if you knew or if it matters to you, but keep in mind there is no local coop, only online. my buddy wanted to play it with his son locally and was pretty annoyed when he found this out.

A lot of games dont do local co-op anymore. I wish this wasn't the case...I miss that quite a bit sometimes.

I tried the NBA Live 14 demo yesterday and it is pretty bad. I was so much wanting it to compete with 2K14 right out of the gate but the reviews of it were spot on. I'm not quite sure what EA has been doing since the NBA Elite debacle. The graphics are not good at all, the players seem like they're too small for the court, the animations are awkward and feel incomplete. After seeing the 2K14 player models and animations, NBA Live 14 feels extremely dated.

I have concerns about the ONE's AA abilities. I don't have COD so can't look at it, but by all accounts it looks like garbage. BF4 looks amazing until you see it on PS4 - and I don't mean YouTube comparisons. All those videos make it look a lot closer than it really is. IRL there's no comparison. PS4 has none of the texture pop-in (foliage is especially ugly and I get texture nastiness even when up close - like it's all blacked out).

I was at GS earlier this morning to return something and saw the ONE demo machine. Even when the screen is just on the green "Xbox ONE" graphic, it's aliased as hell.

Has anyone had any issues with the Kinect Sports Demo? Have yet to been able to play it as it keeps giving me a message that something might be in front of the kinect. It then takes me to the menu, which shows the play area and me as a green dot so I know it sees me. I go back in and it kicks me right back out. No issues on any other games, re-ran the setup, etc.

As I get more comfortable with the system, some of its flaws start to stick out. I know a lot of people claimed the system was essentially Windows 8 because of the flat metro tile look, but the idea and function of the One UI is also essentially W8. This is evident when you realize that everything in the system is an app, which causes some annoyances but does have its perks.

The perks are that since everything is an app, this should make updating certain integral parts of the system very, very easy, which is good. The core OS is fine and while I'm sure we'll still see updates to it, we wouldn't have to wait for bi-yearly updates to get fixes to individual parts of the OS (assuming they would do it the same as the 360). With the console defaulted to "instant on" standby and automatic updates enabled, Microsoft can push out updates to almost anything on the system at any time and everybody is good to go. Whether they do this or not is anybody's guess, but surely they'll take advantage.

Where the "everything is an app" sucks is with things like your friends list and achievements. IMO, this stuff should be baked into the OS. When viewing achievements in-game, I don't really feel like I should be taken completely out and into another app. In the end, it's not much different since you can quick-resume back into the game, but it feels disconnected.

My two biggest issues at the moment are how the friends app works and that the achievements app is horrible. The following/followers thing sounds good on paper but I think the biggest issue is that you aren't told when somebody starts following you (at least this is what I've read, since nobody has started following me yet). For example, I started following purbeast and can see all his entries in the activity feed, however he hasn't started following me back. Now, I'm assuming this is because he wasn't notified I'm now following him and not because he just doesn't want to.

As far as the achievements app, it's cumbersome to navigate. It puts all the challenges first, which is somewhat annoying to me. It then lists achievements in huge boxes and you have to enter each one just to see what it was for. I thought going online and using the webpage instead would suffice, but it looks like Microsoft is forcing you to use the Smartglass app, which is designed the exact same way, except now when you go into a single achievement to look at it and then back out, it puts you back at the beginning of the horizontal page in front of all the challenges. Achievements are so hard to look through now that I don't really care. When you have a game like KI that has 94 of them, screw it. I don't want to spend 10 minutes trying to figure out what I do and don't have yet.

while we're on the gripes of xbox1, i will point out some of mine, and some are the same as yours.

- i agree the achievements "app" is horrible. way too cumbersome. i hate having to scroll what feels like infinitely to the right to see them all, then to click on one and it take the full screen just to show me 5 words of text.

- i agree about the way friends are integrated. i hate it. i don't like that you can't see when friends pop online, and i don't like how you don't have to accept/decline friend requests. you send a request and are friends with someone unless they block you. it just feels odd. same with followers, you have no clue who is following you or who is new to the list. i also hate that the friends list shows columns of 3, and you have to scroll to the right to see them all.

i generally feel there is a lot of wasted space on the UI and a lot of things don't feel streamlined.

i was playing killer instinct last night, and i saw an achievement pop up and i held the button for more details. so it took me out to the chieve app. while looking in it i saw that it had some challenges for killer instinct, so i clicked on it. what i didn't realize, is it was for killer instinct classic (part 1 remake) and it launched that. as soon as i realized that i backed out and loaded up killer instinct again. but low and behold, since i guess i opened up the classic version, it shut down the other one since i guess you can't have 2 games open at once. i was on survival mode like 10 wins in, and it just took me out of the game when it started up the classic version. no warning or anything.

^I agree with a lot of what you're saying. The core problem I am having is there is no notification for when someone starts following you and there are tons for achievements. I don't care that I have 10 achievements in DR3, what I care about is whether or not my friend added me so we can play Fifa.

I like the everything is an app approach, but switching really needs to be faster. The core OS is smooth (especially when transitioning from one game to the next), but when I load up my friends list, I shouldn't see a blank screen while it loads.

Some minor Kinect annoyances also are pretty stupid. If I say "Xbox Play <something>" and that something isn't a game they recognize, it immediately goes into the music app. They really need to get some shortcuts for games as well. I should be able to say DR3 rather than Dead Rising 3, or even just Dead Rising. The Kinect is also super sensitive (at least mine is), which is a bad thing in games like DR3 because the voice stuff is always on. I learned quickly if I paused the game to get up for some reason, to go to the Xbox guide as well. Otherwise, any time someone says something that rhymes with "back" it will unpause the game. It seems smart enough to know when someone is holding the controller (for instance, in DR3 you can say "over here" to attract zombies to your location and my GF couldn't get it to work while I was playing. It would only recognize the voice of the person holding the controller), however, it doesn't do it for everything.

One of the things I really like is the volume up / down commands though. My GF is notorious for always complaining about the volume, so now I don't even have to stop playing.

I'm a bit confused and annoyed with the Xbox One's lack of 3D support. While it's not something everyone cares about, it's something I like. My TV supports it, as do almost all TVs in that price range, and I do watch 3D Blu-rays. I figured if they were using Blu-ray they should be able to support that, unless I'm missing something and it's more difficult. I'm also disappointed with the lack of streaming options on it. I've a huge media file server in my home and I've always streamed music and videos. To be able to stream some of the videos I need to watch for work to my TV is awesome and I'm not sure why they removed it, other than to push the Xbox Music/video stuff. As it stands I'm kinda forced to keep my PS3 around to be my blu-ray player and media streamer.
