yeah i'd be lying if i said that killer instinct is the most fun i've had with a game since 2009 when sf4 came out (which is what got me back into fighters in general), and it's probably better now because it's another new game that everyone is starting together and the netcode is simply ridiculously good. and also the fact that i've just always been a huge ki nut and even own an arcade cabinet, that probably plays into it a bit. i've been waiting 17 years for a new KI and it has met and exceeded my expectations.

check your NAT. i was having major NAT issues over the weekend, some resulting in me not being able to enable party chat. the little circle would keep spinning. then i saw my NAT was strict. i tried so much stuff they recommended to open it, but it wouldn't. sometimes randomly it would open and the chat would work. once i had it open, if i rebooted, it would be strict next time i turned the console on.

then last night someone pointed me to a url that shows how to open the NAT on good ol 360. since i literally used the same port for my x1 as i did for my 360, and 360 always worked fine online, i figured that everything for the 360 was set fine. well nope, it wasn't. i only had 1 port open on UDP and TCP, and there were 3 other ports that they recommended to open. i opened those ports, and now my NAT is open. i did a system reboot too and checked out the NAT afterwards, and it is still open.

but i do agree that the whole party/friend shit is a huge mess right now. the fact you can't just default the mic to be on when accepting party invites makes no sense. there are some major steps backwards with the whole party/friend stuff when comparing it to the 360. i mean you can't even send a voice message wtf?

and i can't even have my x1 auto-sign me into my console because i'm not using kinect. it's annoying as shit to have to take that extra step to sign in EVERY SINGLE TIME i turn on my x1.

My Nat was is open and gameplay wise all is well, but sometimes that party chat system is flaky. Cold boots have fixed it each time for me. Some of my buddies just keep trying to enable it and it works for them. Not sure, just wacky. KI is lots of fun. Looking forward to unlocking characters this weekend. My fav back in the day was Sabrewolf. Prolly cuz he reminds me od my SF fav Blanka.

Right, that would mean the TV (in my case) would have to be on which is kind of stupid. Would be absolutely awesome if X1 is in standby mode and a skype call caused it to turn itself on and send an IR signal to the TV to turn on.

I just picked up another X1 at the Microsoft Store in Beachwood, OH. They have a lot on hand and won't say how many (lol).

Thanks,
ELmO

The Xbox One has the ability to control your TV and receivers (turn on / off when the Xbox does), however, when in standby, the only thing it does is listen for Xbox One and update I believe. If a Skype call were to "come in", I'm sure you'd appear offline in Skype and miss the call.

so has anyone here bought ryse? i haven't heard anyone really talk about it. i know a few people who have it and they all say it is really really good, even though it's a little repetitive. i think i might end up caving and snagging it this weekend but i really want to try and find it used for like $30 or $40.

anyone else tried out crimson dragon? i might snag that over the holiday weekend too since i've basically heard that if you like the panzar dragoon games, you will like this game.

I haven't tried either of those. They are getting pretty awful reviews, so I am weary of paying full price (especially since I am going as much DD as I can this time; and f you Forza for not having a special edition on DD).

Also, people reporting "Xbox go to Dead Rising" not working, haven't tried it. It works without the 3. Fifa as well. I don't have Madden yet, but I assume it will work as well.

EDIT: I read a few of the user reviews of Crimson Dragon and Ryse on metacritic, and it seems the consensus is Ryse just gets repetitive in its combat and the limited reviews of Crimson Dragon are very positive. They claim to be fans of the Panzer Dragoon series and say it is a worthy sucessor. The "professional" reviewers seem to think a bit less of it. I am, at least, waiting for the Yahtzee review before I buy either. He generally isn't afraid to complain about things actually wrong in the game.

Yep, and I really like it. Yes, it's repetitive, but the presentation is so good, I don't care about the repetition. Of course the graphics are absolutely beautiful, but also the cut scenes and voice acting are extremely well done. The QTE's are quite fun at first, but get a bit boring once you've seen each move a few dozen times. Also, it doesn't seem to matter if you actually hit the right button at the right time. You might (but not usually) miss out on whatever bonus comes with the execution, but the "penalty" is negligible... Time it perfectly, and you'll get a damage or health bonus. Mistime it, and the bad guy still dies and the next guy really isn't too much more difficult.

But overall, I'm having a lot of fun with it. I'm sure once I finish the short campaign, I'll sell the game and that'll be that.

I want to check it out. But with that said, can anyone tell me a game that isn't repetitive? Every game out there does the same things through the entire thing. Racing games, I go fast and make turns. Shooters, I shoot hundreds of people in the face. RPG's, I use spells and my weapon to kill guy after guy after guy on my way to the next boss fight. All games are repetitive.

Game play is always repetitive, but new puzzles and new items (eg Zelda) can make each level unique and a novel like Shakespeare tragedy story that grows until it punches you in the chest when you aren't expecting it isn't repetitive. Turning a new corner and seeing a chest that might have a huge upgrade never gets old.

I just setup my xb1 for tv. Sadly my tv isn't listed, but I have some functionality. Microsoft needs to work on their list. My set isn't that old.

The thing is, RPGs rely largely on their story, so their combat is repetitive, but the story isn't. The characters are (supposed to be) engaging and the combat is largely due to technological issues of that are long since past. With Ryse, it is a hack n slash, which is entirely based around the combat, which gets repetitive according to those who've played it.

i agree, which is exactly why when i read the review (on ign), had i not known it was for ryse they were basically describing god of war to a T, down to the combo system.

Except as you progress in God of War you get new combos. Ryse doesn't seem to reward you nor have new weapons to get new combos in the same way.

Thanks! Is there anything that requires you to have an XBox Live Gold subscription in order to play?

Only if you are playing online in multiplayer games.

It was asked in the Killer Instinct thread but it is relevant here for everyone. The Tournament Edition Killer Instinct fight stick does not work on PC.

Here's what I see when I plug it in on Windows 8.1 As you can see it knows it's a fightstick but it has no drivers to support it. Similarly the reguar XB1 controller says it needs troubleshooting. It comes up as a generic controller but is not functional.

That should change when the drivers for the controller are released for PC.

anyone know how to leave bad feedback to make the persons reputation go down and so that you won't ever be matched up with the person again? ms made it sound like the whole reputation thing was going to be so simple. i had someone ragequit on me just before i could finish him off in killer instinct, and there is no recent players list or anything that i can go to in order to leave him bad feedback so i won't play with him again.

for all the shit ms touted about how "easy" it is to do all this crap, this interface really seems to be a huge step backwards imo, as far as the whole party/messaging/friends thing goes. i actually couldn't even access my friends list earlier, it said some unexpected error occured and to try later.

Yep I feel you on this one. The friend list being disconnected from the core OS and made into an app was bad IMO. I have no idea how to leave feedback outside your friends or followers where you can press the report button. I played one online game and couldn't figure out anything except how to send a friend request or message. I suppose I'd need to play with it more but it's not immediately apparent how you are supposed to do these things. This is one area that needs work, streamlining the friends and other aspects of the online experience (not playing the actual games which seems fine). The PS4 really seems to make this much more painless. I hope MS can work this out in the long run.

also so far, when i have sent friend requests and received them, i no longer have to "accept" them. as soon as someone sends me a friend request, they are on my list. it is then up to me to block them if i don't want them on my list. just a very stupid decision imo.

Yes very, I didn't realize this either. Seems like they fell into the facebook trap of "the more friends you have the better".

yeah which is retarded. on 360 i'd go through like once ever 6 months to remove people i don't game with because i hate clutter. and the fact that now you can only see like 9 or 12 friends on the friend list at once, then scroll sideways ... it sucks that your list can build without you even having any input on who is on there, until after the fact. i am not a fan AT ALL of the side scrollin either. i definitely MUCH prefer the ps4 simple interface than this xbox1 stuff.
