yeah which is retarded. on 360 i'd go through like once ever 6 months to remove people i don't game with because i hate clutter. and the fact that now you can only see like 9 or 12 friends on the friend list at once, then scroll sideways ... it sucks that your list can build without you even having any input on who is on there, until after the fact. i am not a fan AT ALL of the side scrollin either. i definitely MUCH prefer the ps4 simple interface than this xbox1 stuff.

Well, we knew they were behind on the software end. It needs a bit of work. I think part of the issue is they are stuck on the Windows Phone/Windows 8 interface type and it almost requires sideways scrolling due to the setup of the boxes.

My Xbox one has the disc drive click, won't read any discs. Goes click, clunk, clunk, click. Please insert a bluray or xbone game. My luck sucks! This was straight from the Ms store.

also so far, when i have sent friend requests and received them, i no longer have to "accept" them. as soon as someone sends me a friend request, they are on my list. it is then up to me to block them if i don't want them on my list. just a very stupid decision imo.
That is unbelievable level of BS. This is one of the reasons I got rid of Google+ a couple years back; it was possible for a person to add you to their circle even if you didn't know them and it just drove me up the wall.

A gear is misaligned. Either call Microsoft, get a replacement and a free game, or fix it yourself in a few minutes: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OAh0Pn2N7LU

I wonder how long that fix will last or if you move the system will it then have the part fail again?

That just seems like mishandling of the drive somewhere along the line. I've never had any type of CD, DVD, or Blu-Ray drive come with gears out of wack like that.

I tried the spanking method, lol, didn't work. Calling Microsoft now.

Iwonder if my amazon edition is also malfunctioning. Being I bought this one from a Microsoft brick and mortar store, I should be able to exchange it easily but I'm not in the same city anymore. Would be a shame to have to pack the thing back up and take it back to the original store I bought it from.

troubleshooting analysts annoy the heck out of me. replace my console i'm not going through your steps. "did you try installing the dvd player app and playing a DVD?" talk about giving me a hard time.

they just direct you here for exchanging your console:
https://myservice.xbox.com/en-US/Pages/Welcome.aspx

THey place a hold charge on your CC during the advance exchange process, for the price of an xbox one.

I can't blame them, though, it is a burdensome expense to take back the unit if there is a super easy fix.

Honestly if I had one that had the drive click and it was fixed by spanking it I would not be overly optimistic that I've solved the problem forever. Inexplicably, I have in my life once or twice had machines of some kind or another "break", and then magically repair themselves and years later still not suffer a reprise of the problem, but it's rare. They are rather like bad joints that just get worse.

The MS Store said I could return it and exchange it for another, if they have stock, within 14 days. So I'm going to try that first, but have them open it up and test it in store. If that malfunctions, I'll say I want a refund (lol). Then just buy one later, and hope my amazon one doesn't have that problem.

The MS rep wants me to file an advance exchange online, but I guess exchanging at the store is easier right now, it just happens to be 200 miles away so I'll do it after thanksgiving.

THanks!

so another thing that i am wondering if is even possible at all on this console that was possible on 360 - is there any way to turn off hearing your opponents sound through the speakers and only through the headset, and if you dont' have a headset plugged in you just don't hear them at all? super super annoying hearing all of the background noise and stuff from people who are using the kinect when you don't want to.

You can't mute them in settings? I know on the ps3 you could in call of duty. You would go in the lobby, hit a button and then set mute all or mute all except party. On the ps4 you can go into the system settings and set up your Mic and ear piece to get sound from chat only or all sound throughput. But now it seems it's independent of all the games. In battlefield 4 I don't hear anyone with mics. Unless I'm in a party chat but that may be messed up now or it's possible no one had a Mic this morning.

probably, but i don't want to have to mute someone specifically. i just want an option like the 360 had where it would have the output either go through the speakers, the headset, or turned off.

Damn that's harsh. I hadn't heard of that CC hold, that's borderline abusive. I wonder if Sony is doing the same with PS4 advance replacements.

It's OK I think it's normal. You return your defective unit within 15 days or the hold becomes a real charge.

THey should just let us keep the "defective" one because for all intents and purposes I don't think I'll ever stick a disk in there anyway (Other than Forza) - I intend to download everything else. I think this problem is larger than only 1% of Xbox Ones....

Yeah the 360 and ps3 had this and so does the ps4. I'm sure the one has it also. Maybe once you have the headset or Mic synced and connected check out audio device settings there has to be an option to have it output sound to your headset or tv speakers. For some reason on my ps4 when my Mic is plugged in, it auto defaults to only chat sounds go through the headset.

Well I actually prefer this method. The turn around time is much faster. Although yeah it is worrisome.

Sony is really backed up with many that have the blue light of death systems. They send a box to you, you send your system in overnight since it's paid for, and then depending when they get to you, they ship you out a new system. Some have reported getting an extra controller too because there are no refurbished models, they just send you out a whole new system.

But I would prefer them to send me a new system, with a empty box that way I can just send my old one in and move on. No waiting and if the new one us doa, then I guess you would find out right away. Dell did this when they replaced my laptop a long time ago. I was sent a new laptop in two boxes and the instructions stated just return your defective model.

How is that abusive? It's a simple CYA procedure for Microsoft. They aren't in the business of giving $500 credit to anybody with an issue.

It's a great option and every company should have something similar.

Yeah if you want to do the standard return they will do that. This is for people who want priority service.

Agreed. Many reputable companies do this. Newegg has done this for years. Without the hold, they are inviting abuse and potentially outright theft.

Say someone buys an Xbox One and tell MS it's broken, when in fact it's fine. MS sends a replacement Xbox which is taken and then never send in the "bad" one. At this point, theft has taken place and MS's only option is to sue the thief, but at a higher cost than the replacement value of the console.

The hold is simply to make sure that the end user has the funds to pay for the console in case they refuse to send one back. Gas stations do this all the time, as do hotels and car rental dealers.

The hold is optional though. As far as MS is concerned, you can always do it the old way and let them repair/replace it at their own discretion and then send it back to you weeks later. The hold is there to make your life easier by allowing faster replacement. From a financial point of view, it doesn't benefit MS in the least and in some ways actually costs them more in transactions fees and accounting.

I agree I wish Sony would do the same. I have a week and half before I can still buy their warranty extension with accidental coverage. I have credit cards that are open I could use for such a replacement event. I would be glad that I don't have to go wait for a console I just bought if it was broken.

Seems like MS is doing alright in the cs department. I've had one issue I contacted Sony about and they were very helpful but hell those people have to deal with so many callers. It's a hit or miss each time, every company has their good and bad.

Placing a hold on a CC for the amount of the product isn't offensive or abusive to me in the least. What business in their right mind is in the practice of sending out replacement product without any guarantee they'll get the original product back? That kind of practice would be ripe for abuse.

What MS is doing is perfectly fair, and Amazon has been successfully doing the same thing for years. As long as you promptly return the defect, it's of zero consequence to you, unless you live your life at the threshold of your credit card limits, in which case you have far bigger problems to deal with.

I don't see many advance RMA options these days, but every one that I've seen includes a credit card hold. I've even had to do it when I've used advance RMAs on hard drives.

Hmm, I must have had really good luck. I've had three advance RMAs cross-shipped over the past few years with no CC hold. Two Asus motherboards and an EVGA video card. Those were all in the $200-$350 range though, so for a $500 console (with all that entails), it makes more sense I suppose.

Doesn't EVGA charge you for the option to use Advance RMA? I know when I registered my 780, they gave me a few extra options including Advance RMA with various shipping speeds for a higher cost.
