I don't' think either one of you read the link. It is merely a USB dongle that spoofs Xbox One input. No mods, no hacks.

if sony could bring everything from the ps3 + more, what is microsoft's excuse for having like 25% the functionality of the 360?

i'm pretty sure the half assed beta os that ms gave us with the xbox1 at launch is what all those reports about "xbox one not being ready" were all about. this is probably what they were referring to, all the missing functionality.

I tend to feel the same way and agree. Developers said MS was behind and it shows in some areas.

Their auto game recording is awful. I keep getting notifications in Madden 25 (with improved super DBs and LBs!) when I throw a pick 6. Seriously? Clip recorded? Thanks MS! I am glad to know you're making fun of me.

The PS4 is doing half of what the PS3 is doing. It just has 10 times the interface compared to the PS3. Microsoft brought new features and new approaches to computing, entertainment, and living room management. On the PS4 they obviously spent most of their development resources on the Core gaming features. MS didn't ignore them but it's obvious that they choose to prioritize the multimedia integration as long as they felt they had the gaming (but not necessarily all of the core gaming tools) down.

We can probably count on Sony bringing back the stuff they took out last second, but it should be obvious that the Xbone has a much more complex OS design and with it running as smoothly as it is I don't think it shows that MS is behind. Exact opposite. I think it shows that they are still so far ahead that like last Gen Sony won't be able to catch up (and they don't need to their systems strengths lie elsewhere). I have confidence that MS will get the UI where we want it and that the Xbone will have 1-2 major revamps of the UI. On the other hand if the PS3 taught us anything, son y will add features and change options here and their, but the core of the OS you see now is here for life.

I think the xbox one ui will continue looking like windows 8. My friend just got one and I was over there messing with it. Well, I hope they fix the UI and make it more snappy. I like the ps4 ui, it's simple and I never noticed much lag.

But I like the kinnect even though I would never use it. It's neat to show off certain features. Media integration is cool too, but hell I barely use cable as it is and I don't even pay for an hd box so again I couldn't use that.

I guess I'm not a big fan of those box apps on the main screen. The dlna and mp3 support was confirmed by yoshida that it will be added to the ps4 next update..whenever that will be.

Based on the UI alone I don't think either system is going to change anything major. I don't know what you would compare it to, windows, linux, the old UI of ps3 and 360?

I have been playing Forza 5 and Ryse, the only 2 games I got. Now I am ready for some more. Any suggestions. I was going for Dead Rising 3 but remembered when I got the 360 and Dead Rising, I played it 2 times before I lost interest and returned the game.

How many of us actually care about all the non-gaming features on X1/PS4 vs. just the gaming features?

The Xbox 360 got a major OS UI update like half way through it's life cycle. They did away with the blades and went to a more "Metro" UI. Why would you expect the UI to be static this time around? I think the UI is decent enough (even if it lags a bit in certain areas; such as going from a game into the achievements, but that could be due to the game taking up a lot of resources). The Kinect navigation is a nice touch a lot of people will be happy with (even some smart TVs are starting to have this feature).

Define gaming features. Does it play games and have multiplayer? Only "gaming" features I care about.

The other stuff actually interests me some.

Yeah I remember that. Im not a metro fan I suppose. Since the update to win8.1 I have my pc directly boot to desktop. Nothing gets installed to my metro start screen. Been quite happy with it like that.
The kinnect navigation is interesting. I wish the ps4 had some sort of navigation with the Mic they give you. I can tell it to navigate to a game and start it, turn it off, stand by with my voice but it won't do anything else with other options it seems.

I am not interested in the other stuff so I was trying to see if there really is this market.

I turn my xbox or ps4 on to play a video game. I still use my roku for streaming movies/music. I ditched cable. I like the Kinect a lot but I am annoyed to speak to my TV and it understand me half the time.

Well, if you're from Cleveland you can try throwing beer bottles at it. *Browns dig* >_>

The only thing I'm missing in regard to the PS4 is Blu-Ray 3D and dedicated media remote support. Although, I was disappointed that saying, "Playstation, eject disc" doesn't work. As for the XBOX One, my biggest complaint about it is that the OS feels somewhat disjointed. I actually couldn't find the settings for a while; however, thankfully, the Kinect integration could start it for me. :$ The X1's OS is actually based on the NT kernel, and you can really tell that it has a strong Windows feel to it with how everything is separated away by being an app.

I cannot figure out how to record more than 5 minutes. On ps4 it saves the last 15min and I can male a clip from that.

Um...no when you remove friend list integration and make it an app that is backwards. Inability to mute people easily is annoying and a step backwards, those were both super simple and reliable on the 360. Then you have lack of support for Dolby digital, lack of gameplay streaming...the list goes on. These are all things sony got working right on day one.

Try killer instinct. You can play as jago for free and buy the characters for $20.

I am not picking sides here. You can bemoan a couple features and talk about how they used to work after 8 years on completely different console, using a completely different hardware platform, in completely different OS, built only for a single task or understand that just about everything had to be started and re-approached. For that reason MS will probably try and have already done so some new ideas. But its not a MS is so far behind Sony software side. They are farther ahead, they just didn't prioritize what you wanted them to out of the gate.

Right off the bat I can tell you why they are running into trouble and you can kind of see it in the Notification popups. They need to smooth out overley's from the Home VM to the Game VM. Right now just achieve notification flakes out. Expect a more usable "friends menu" either as an overlay or a snap in the future. But again it's a new process on a new system on new hardware. They can't just port over the code. Audio makes sense as well. They are intermixing several digitally protected audio sources so they will have to add support if they got it worked out.

Mute I don't know if they can smooth over a home OS overlay, or get devs to add an MP interface for users to mute and friend and stuff maybe they can. It's probably going to take a long while to get this worked out. And I think Twitch was more an oversight by MS. I think they thought we were still a Youtube culture and not a Self stream culture. I had only heard about Twitch a couple weeks before the PS4 and didn't know it had it till days before launch. I am sure MS will be able to work that out (just need to free up a little bit of resources for the constant feed).

But lets not deem one better than the other. Specially not the one that went the safest route possible with the more disjointed OS UI (which they only have one of) and still had to cut features, most simpler than the ones you are describing, to make launch.

They are both doing far less than their predecessors, that is the reality of launch. These are whole new OSes, not ports to new platforms.

Sorry but you are painting a perfect picture that does not exists. The XB1 OS is in no way smooth, feature rich or anything else as rosy. It is horribly broken right now. Laggy after days of use, spotty voice control, poorly implemented controller control, no live streaming, confusing interface, bad voice conrol of TV, black crush, poor scaling on non-1080P, long install times, long load times, etc. It is obvious they were not ready for launch and you are all the beta testers for $500. The PS4 Os is lacking customization and some other small features, but nothing is broken and performance and ease of use is top. MS is pushing their broken desktop OS onto gamers and it is only going to hurt them.

Sure Sony didn't aim for the Moon with gimmicks, but they are at least doing it well instead of a half ass job at both games and non-games. I'll take simple controller control and 1080P games over 720P and frustrating voice controls that get old after a week.

Wat? I have had very little problems with the voice commands and this "black crush" people are crying about.

The OS could be a bit snappier in a few aspects, and if you're confused by the layout, you are a moron.

I agree it isn't complete, but it is a new OS on a new platform, using new ideas (for console).

We have always been beta testers. At least since the OG Xbox. I have gotten all but the PS2 since the GC release within weeks of launch (though skipping the WiiU this gen). Since the OG Xbox with it's HD based OS install there have been so many changes to the UI and capabilities. The PS3 and 360's were just as "not ready" as the Xboxone and the PS4.

But for it's lack of "core gaming experience" features like a game overlay friends list or mute options, of my systems 1 is on and in use almost any time I am in the room and the other just got relegated to another room to be put on BD duty and had to basically force me to buy a game just to feel like I am getting some use out of it. Guess which one gets used all of the time? The One.

Now there is some Bias. I per the One controller and have been primarily using an Xbox since the 360 launch. But between lack of decent games and no compelling tools to keep me using the system, its Spartan "for games only" unfinished OS fails to increase mind-share and system use.

Now which of the 2 do you think is going to happen? A.) Sony the hardware and game company making major changes to the OS in order to drive up multimedia capabilities after barely making any core changes to the PS3 over 8 years. B.) Microsoft the OS/Software/and Game company making minor changes to increase performance and a few UI and tool changes to increase communication options and improve audio.
