You are not getting crushed blacks in Forza and Blu Rays because the scaler is not being used there since they are native 1080 sources. The scaler is what introduces the problems.

But other games are scaled up and have work around...battlefield 4 for example

Nope...Mario just ain't enough and every 3rd party title that isn't exclusive is better on ps4/xb1/pc. Unfortunate for them.

i still find it funny how both x1 and ps4 have outsold the wii-u by more than 2x now in less than a month, and they are both nearly double the price.

I have never made a secret about my dislike of the Wii U. It's last-gen hardware with less games than last gen will ever have, plus a price half-way between last gen and new gen. It's a Nintendo machine and nothing more. I am not sad to see Nintendo getting its ass handed to it.

Regarding XB1/PS4 sales, so much for the demise of console gaming. It may die one day, but it sure won't be this generation. I expect this one to be better than the last at the rate things are going.

You have to switch party chat on to get away from the pub chat and into the party chat. It's a pita. On 360, it would default you to party chat. Now, sometimes party chat won't turn on when you join a party. I find that a cold reboot, not just putting it on standby and powering on, will fix that.

How do you go to the party chat? Purebeast said he made a party but still heard the other guy. Is it supposed to be automatic?

Console gaming will only die when we have things with the graphic fidelity of the current generation (current as in at the time of this "death") and the ease of use from a device we already have. If they integrated a PC into a TV (which is happening more and more), and it had a graphics card and a controller, consoles (as individual units) might die off. Until then, nope.

Unless gaming itself dies, consoles will be around in some form.

i never went back into the party app after i created it, so i bet if i go back into the party app i can find the setting he's talking about.

I believe it will be the second bar down, but your it will be highlighted. Just hit "Turn on Party Chat" and it should work. Yes it is a pain that they didn't make it the default, but you have to admit that MS is at least good at changing things on their consoles. They are aware of the issue and have said they are working on it.

I'd be much happier if the "use Kinect as a mic for voice communication" was unchecked by default. I mean, the console comes with a headset. There is no reason the Kinect should be used as a communication device (outside of Skype) by default.

It is on by default it seems, as the BF4 devs had to go look into what was causing the issue when it first surfaced and they found out you can turn it off (I'm not sure if turning it off is just for the crushing part or if it is tied in with the FXAA as well).

I have a PS4 but I've been considering trying to trade it locally for an Xbox. I got KZ, COD, and Madden from the Amazon B2G1 sale. The only one I have left is Madden and I've only been playing it occasionally. It seems I would get more play out of Forza and KI, at least at the moment.

My wife is pretty paranoid about the Kinect though. Does it have some sort of flip down cover to block the camera? Or do I have to throw a towel over it? Can you disconnect the cable from the back of the Kinect itself or do you have to pull it out from the console itself?

You can unplug the connect. You don't even need it to be connected to use the xbox. But many have found it useful.

There is no flip down cover or any out of the box way to block the Kinect physically. The cable can only be disconnected at the back of the console.

i have both. i didn't turn on my ps4 for about 2 weeks after i had my xbox1, but i only have killer instinct on xbox1. i finally turned on my ps4 on a sick day to finish knack (had about an hour left on it), and tried to give killzone another play, but got to chapter 4 and that game just bores me to death.

i'm not sure when the next time i'll turn my ps4 on will be. i can tell you that tonight i will be playing killer instinct though.

next game i get might be that tomb raider game, but tbh i'm not sure what system i'll get it for, if i do get it.

i also didn't have my kinect hooked up, but i hooked it up (and kept it in my a/v closet) because for some stupid reason, it's required for upload studio.

I always used rechargeable AA batteries on the 360 and it always had a life indicator.

The problem would using rechargeables on the 360 was that the battery meter was calibrated for 1.5V alkaline cells so the 1.2V nimh cells would stop 'rumbling' too soon while the battery still had juice. (I could easily get another hour or so of 'rumble-free' play before the batteries finally died.) The play-n-charge packs would tell the controller to expect 2.4V instead of 3.0V so they lasted longer. Do the XBONE controllers have this same problem with rechargeables?

You obviously haven't heard the new kinects chat, because it is pretty clear compared to the last one. Nothing is as good as the voice chat in the party system on the One when it works.

Meh...I think they are both about equal overall. Unless you are really interested in the TV and have to have a streaming box there's no reason to get the XB1 over the PS4 if you already have a PS4. You may play the two titles you mentioned and it would not be an invalid reason to switch, but if it were me I'd wait until I could have both. I prefer the DS4 controller by a good bit over the XB1 controller. You'd have to try them both though.

The Kinect can be totally removed from the system and remain unused. The downside to this is it removes the autologin feature. It appears that this feature was left over from the time when Kinect was required. It will log you in via facial recognition. You have to log in manually every time you turn the system on otherwise. That and as pointed out above, Upload Studio (where you send videos to skydrive to be shared on youtube or facebook etc) requires kinect.

It's still nowhere as clear as an actual headset. Plus it picks up all the background noise which is annoying.

I have both - I've been playing the One more than the PS4, simply because of I'm enjoying the games on it better than the PS4 exclusives.

I also prefer the One's controller of the DS4 controller, but your mileage my vary
