So... we get a big announcement and no hardware details? I suspect 90% of AT readers will be unsatisfied as the software will change greatly over the years anyway and the hardware capabilities are the only thing we can be sure will make a difference later.

Supposedly, Microsoft will be announcing a Rare title from a well-known IP at E3. Frankly, I'm hoping the IP isn't something like Viva Piñata, and we get something awesome like Killer Instinct awe:!!!) or Banjo and Kazooie!

OMG, why have I not seen him before?

You probably don't play Blizzard games.

That would explain it.

It's comments like these that crack me up. There's obvious misinformation going around about this, nothing concrete. Did you not even read the article?

Potential scenarios, which means it could happen instead of saying no so they didn't go the Sony route and say no, they're saying it could happen.

the fact that the kinect didn't react to anything else that he was saying in the presentation makes me wonder if the whole kinect interaction was scripted/controlled behind the scenes.

that said, i was actually more impressed with the reveal than i had expected after reading all of the posts here. i think there are some really awesome features. and i now get how the whole tv thing works. basically just a pass through, but you can also control the guide of some sort from the xbox1.

You can only control the guide of the Xbox. It's basically just an overlay like Google TV. Nothing revolutionary at all since the cable companies don't allow any freedom with their boxes.

The guide is mostly likely just pulled from the Internet just like it is for Windows Media Center, and if I had to guess, the control is performed via HDMI-CEC.

Although, I am wondering what the IR port on the back is for.

Also, I'm kinda digging the X1 nickname that I used earlier. It reminds me of a codename for a stealth jet or something. :$

EDIT:

Okay, it looks like that article that zero linked to corroborated me and also answered the IR question...

If you're lucky enough to own a newer cable box, you'll get to change channels directly through the HDMI connection, but most people will find themselves using the One's included IR blaster to control their cable or satellite boxes — a failure-prone one-way communication system that stubbornly refuses to die.

One other thing, where was any mention of indie dev support? Sony made a decent mention of it during their announcement but Microsoft didn't even touch it. Indie devs are important IMO and can definitely help your platform thrive even more so.

Two things must happen before I commit to the Xbox.

1. Killer Instinct
2. Let me use my iPad as a screen to play my games from bed with the fancy wifi controller. I never get TV time, the only I have to play is when everyone is asleep and I'm laying in bed.

http://kotaku.com/you-will-be-able-to-trade-xbox-one-games-online-micros-509140825

Here's how the system works: when you buy an Xbox One game, you'll get a unique code that you enter when you install that game. You'll have to connect to the Internet in order to authorize that code, and the code can only be used once. Once you use it, that game will then be linked to your Xbox Live account. "It sits on your harddrive and you have permission to play that game as long as you’d like," Harrison said.

Other users on the console will be able to play that game as well, Harrison said. So you don't need to buy multiple games per family. "With the built-in parental controls of the system it is shared amog the users of the device," he said.

But what if you want to bring a game disc to a friend's house and play there? You'll have to pay a fee—and not just some sort of activation fee, but the actual price of that game—in order to use a game's code on a friend's account. Think of it like a new game, Harrison said.

"The bits that are on that disc, you can give it to your friend and they can install it on an Xbox One," he said. "They would then have to purchase the right to play that game through Xbox Live."

"They would be paying the same price we paid, or less?" we asked.

"Let’s assume it’s a new game, so the answer is yes, it will be the same price," Harrison said.

But that doesn't mean used games are dead. In fact, Harrison told us, you'll be able to sell your Xbox One games online.

"We will have a solution—we’re not talking about it today—for you to be able to trade your previously-played games online," Harrison said.

Who knew they would be that idiotic after Sony said they would not block used games. Xbox One could well be dead on arrival, guys.

The announcement was ONE hour, oy. Anything developer related with be shown off at their BUILD conference at the end of June.

Guys, console launches are always like this. You never get to know everything on day one. :whiste:

nothing is concrete only because the console hasn't been released and now they have time to either backtrack and revise the software or step up the pr campaign before release. if release had been done blind without any of these pre-release shows, much of the "speculative" items most consider gloom and doom very likely would have been official.

Yea, but they need to make official statements that are clear and to the point. Their statement on always online is as vague as one can come.

not really, you'll be able to have limited periods of single player only play without connectivity.

did enjoy logging into wow tonight and the first half-a-dozen guild chat message that pop up are varying comments about how dumb MS was

I find it interesting reading this thread because it really shows the hatred that MS has gathered over the years. Instead of going off of facts, or waiting for things to become clearer there quite a few people jumping on the FUD and spreading it as if it was fact. It's a stark contract to some other tech companies who don't get as distorted if they don't mention something.

Of course let's not forget the people that are looking for any reason to declare the thing a failure, things like the lack of games shown (even though E3 is right around the corner and the publishers will be showcasing them), lack of information on marketplaces where small devs can publish their stuff, or even the fact they didn't mention deep sea fishing rights (because let's be honest if MS didn't talk about they have to be hiding some fee for it) becomes yet another reason to shout out they won't give MS a dime. The reality is, the early adopters are going to buy it anyways, MS could have said here's the same 360 only now in blue and the fanboys would go nuts. The MS haters aren't going to buy it even if MS gave them money to, and those few people who are trying to decide between the Xbox and the PS4 are going to wait until it's a lot closer to launch and get more solid info.

Having said that, please continue the debates. I really do enjoy the posts (really, they can be informative and some are just plain amusing) arguing if the Xbox will charge you a fee to play games, or use your own internet. I enjoy the posts, really I do.
