I never saw that blog post before but it does start to make sense in a way. I said before that the PS4 handling of friends and chat is a lot like the 360 experience, actually almost exactly like it while the XB1 is much different and doesn't have the same flow to it. When reading that blog, the point about the guys doing the OS not being gamers and not understanding that the 360 was setup so that the OS handles all the party and friend lists for a reason seems to be logical. It's almost like they wrote the OS for the XB1 like a standard computer OS where every device or software needs it's own driver or code to tell the OS how to handle it and what to do. Them not being gamers would explain some of the decisions with the friends list being an app, and the issues I have with the voice communications. Maybe they didn't understand or think about how someone may want to chat with a friend and seemlessly jump into a game. I've done this on the PS4 with a friend of mine. He told me about something in AC4 and I was like "really? how did I miss it? let me check" and I jumped into the game without losing the chat session. I would have found it frustrating to lose my chat session. With the PS4 it seems like they looked at what the 360 did right and made it their goal that the OS functions the same way. So that each game or app doesn't need to tell the OS how to handle voice communication and friend invites. That's already being done.

Your spot on with that. They really steered away from what made the 360 so good and it's a shame. There is no reason why you should join a party then have to turn party chat on. We are still so early in and there is a lot of time for stuff to change. Hopefully they listen to the gamers and make changes based on what we want to be different

Let's ponder this question. If (as the article claims) they were "gamers" and listened to gamers, would they have had the backlash or have created it as it is now? They clearly are NOT listening to gamers. They are listening to their stockholders....who fortunately for everyone involved may be half and half gamers.

They are, we don't have 24 hour check-ins, no restrictions on physical games, you can operate the system without kinect (but some features don't work without it which seems like a left over from before).

Really think they were listening to gamers? They were listening to their wallets dry up from the backlash. Sure...that is because gamers (and really..it was the media that got their attention, not gamers) threw a fit, but you could tell it was a very reluctant reversal.

And before you respond with a "they can't win for losing" response, let's be realistic. At the end of the day, they are there to make money. Their core audience turned on them because they were basically ignoring their core audience. Even though it may appear they were trying to appease their core audience, the sheer attitude that came before all that shows that they really were trying to tell people what they wanted rather than listening to what they wanted.

We can give them that they made changes, but I feel now they are just trying to spin it....which isn't a dumb move at all, I'm just not falling for it ;p

You forget one thing. They got scared of losing money because gamers weren't pre-ordering it like the PS4. So yeah, gamers made a difference.

The gamers spoke and they changed it, sure I was pissed at first but they did change it. I'll give them that much they could of easily left it the way it was. Sure they wouldn't of changed it if they weren't losing money but at the end of the day the gamers are the ones that put the money in their bank account and if we don't like something we don't have to buy it. When we don't buy they listen and they changed it

Yeah they got a lot of backlash from it. Preorders increased once they switched. But honestly every company is there to make money. Sony came out and straight up said what people wanted to hear but that didn't mean anything really because there were still ps4's with lots of issues. And then they weren't expecting so many units to have issues, so their cs department was hosed the first month or so.

I have not been in the Sony threads lately but holy crap there were so many defective unit threads. I'm glad I got 3 years warranty and the first thing I did was swap out the hd for something better.

We can tell that both consoles were rushed out the door which is funny since they had so many years to work on them. Hardware issues, over promised/under delivered OS software, it makes you think what they did with the 7-8yrs they had.

I am wondering how the actual hell you get a party going properly when you are in a game. Frustrating to have to restart the xbox to begin a party with friends. Especially annoying for BF4 and Forza

Eh...even being anti-consolefps, I enjoyed the Halo series due to the story. Was of the very few games I actually finished on Xbox that wasn't an emulator game ;p Of course I haven't played any since 2, so I don't know if they've went downhill.

Nope, Halo single handedly signaled the downfall of gaming. It raped the souls of creative minds, thus giving us nothing to play but shooters. Why, oh why did we ever let that game destroy everything we hold so dear in our hobby.

If only Halo was JRPG, all would have been right with the world. Now we are truly effed.

No offense, but shooters were well on the way to raping the souls of creative minds and giving us "nothing to play but shooters" long before Halo existed. Bungie just happened to be much better at raping the souls of creative minds than other developers. But hey, at least we got Red Vs. Blue out of it!

That said, as a PC gamer that started all the way back with Wolf3D I'm going to take a stand a say that 007 Goldeneye sucked balls. Wow that felt good!

His post was TIC - a not so subtle jab at our resident FPS hater.

Question for you Xbox one owners. Can you use a pure USB headset with the One. As in, a headset that has its own audio components, like say the Corsair 1500 USB?

As far as I know it has to be run through the controller.

On a related note here are instructions to make your own headset adapter so you can get any wired 360 headset function with the xb1. It is the mobile address as I am on my phone at the present.
