As far as I know it has to be run through the controller.

On a related note here are instructions to make your own headset adapter so you can get any wired 360 headset function with the xb1. It is the mobile address as I am on my phone at the present.

Question for you Xbox one owners. Can you use a pure USB headset with the One. As in, a headset that has its own audio components, like say the Corsair 1500 USB?

I doubt any USB headset will work (and I can try when I get home, I have a pair of Corsair 1500s). There will most likely be some eventually made (and possibly an adapter for any headset). Most likely though, it will connect to the controller and not the console.

There is a VERY valid excuse.

First you have a DIGITAL connection now. Not analog. You can do 5.1 from the controller port.

Second the voip is not handled at the OS level any longer for games. The method is different so using old hardware that doesn't follow the same protocol won't work.

So build an adapter, or wait for an official one. Or just continue to complain about technology moving forward.

As for Sony and the PS4, some USB headsets actually do work, and the adapter to make other headsets work is super cheap.

Technology moving forward is debatable, but I understand your point why they don't work.

Funny though. I've only been using my Xbone to play Killer Instinct. Holy shit. The online is actually playable and it 's a FIGHTER.

Halo 4 >>>> Halo 2 and 3. Didn't play enough of Reach to decide. 4 felt like the closest to the original in many ways, which I thought was the best of the bunch by far.

I disagree. I always see a lot of hate on Halo 4 but I don't understand. It in no way felt rushed, it felt like a complete game just like all the others. It was fun and 343 actually breathed some new life into the series where Bungie was starting to pump out the same.

The story was ruined, they butchered everything bungie did with it and the online play was completely botched. When everyone is trying to snipe because those weapons are OP, it is a boring game.You basically end up with every single player using a dmr. The map design was terrible too. They made the game like cod with loadouts etc. Totally not the way to go.

The story? So now an alien with super powers fits? Cortana being able to exist outside a computer and stop a nuke with some type of shield fits? No.

The soundtrack wasn't even close to what Bungie did with it.

Halo 4 was my second favorite Halo game. It wasn't a travesty. If you want a travesty, look no further than God of War Ascension of Gears Judgment.

Not because it's overpriced, but because there is a quality difference. That's why I chose my Sennheiser headset over turtle beach. I wanted better quality.

I wouldn't necessarily use audiophiles as a point of "to achieve better quality". These are the same people buying thousands of dollar cables who can't tell the difference between one an a copper hanger used to connect a speaker.

I am not saying a quality headset is a farce over those awful stereo speakers on your TV, but using a subset of people who are notoriously ill informed and ignorant as justification isn't the best way to win here.

Sadly, outside of the soundtrack, I think a lot of games are lacking good audio. In quite a few situations those quality speakers are going to be outputting some garbage generic sound anyway.

A good pair of $300 headphones can not be driven without a $150 amplifier. Otherwise the sound will be much like that of a $100 pair of cans. This is a generality, yes .... but it is true 90% 99% of the time.

The reason people buy McIntosh amps to drive $3000 speakers is because those speakers driven by a cheap Pioneer receiver would sound like shit.

If one cared about audio quality, they'd probably find some $80 cans that sound better than the $300 cans they just bought. But if they are rich, they don't have to think about it. But then again, not thinking about it means that they probably overpaid to get lower quality.
