It's bigger business for The Playstation brand to get people to buy the console and sign up for PSN though.

That is what I mean though. Have a dedicated Twitch.tv app that allows you to view streams and to stream your gameplay for everyone to see. Sure, it just means there will be tons of streams of crap gamers, but it would be a great selling point for those interested. Currently, in order to stream console games it requires additional hardware (capture card and a PC). This is something that could be removed via the console itself.

I agree the only way to get live is when the 12 month cards drop 39.99

Do psn games have one single gamer ID that I can play all my titles with? I purchased FC3 for PS3 and I keep getting ads to sign up for uplay but I don't feel like bothering since I already have a PSN account. I never get these ads on 360 but it would be a major PITA if I have to sign up an account for ubi games/ea games/activision games.... and so forth.

I seen where they mentioned that the new 720 maybe be capable of being a HD receiver for cable and a PVR as well as play games.. Sell it through comcast for a subsidized rate but a 3 year cable sub as well as having a live sub included.

I could see that being a decent deal if you were going to get the services anyway but a bad way to go about getting console if your not really that interested.

Hopefully Sony will figure out how to have multiple accounts logged into the same console in the next generation. I can't understand how they screwed that up so badly.

If you log in to one account on XBL, then try to log in with another...you aren't using account 1 so why does it matter if it logs you out or not??

Split screen online play. You can use multiple Xbox Live accounts. Games allow you to play as a guest of the original account, but certain games limit the playlists you can enter. Mostly either ranked or the highly competitive playlists in shooting games restrict this.

Subs != worth. There's only that many because it's required to play online. If it wasn't, I bet there wouldn't be nearly as many, considering it doesn't offer anything else.

I pay for Xbox Live, and I've never played a game online. Xbox Live is pretty good for a few other things too...

You seem extremely confused. My daughter and I play on the same console all the time. The Xbox lets have both of profiles loaded at the same time, one linked to one controller the second linked to the other controller.

The PS3 account system is so poorly designed that it doesn't allow this.

That's not the PS3 design, it's PSN design. They don't allow two accounts in use at once. Same for Vita.

What benefit do you get by having two accounts loaded anyway? If you say achievements/trophies I'm just gonna laugh at you.

If you're having fun it would not matter that you get some virtual pat on the back.

There are people who like that pat on the back, so why can't it be done? Sony has lagged in a lot of areas on their online service this generation, and I hope they catch up. It may be small things to some people, but a big turn off to others. Why do my updates have to take so long on PSN (I just bought Gran Turismo 5 and installed everything last night. It literally took one hour for all updates and installs). Why can't I chat with someone while they play another game? Why can't I have two accounts signed in at once? Why do I have to sync trophies before I can view them? All these may seem like small issues, but when stacked up (especially the updates and trophies issue) they cost gamers time.

Now before you call me a fan boy, I have both consoles and switch back and forth between my play time all the time. There are things I like about both systems, and things I dislike. I like how easy it is to actually navigate to my apps and games on the psn over the 360, so now I pin everything that I use regularly on XBL so I don't have to search for it.

Parental controls for certain accounts. Content is only available to the account that purchased it on XboxLive. I know PSN had "issues" with someone buying DLC, letting multiple people log in to the account that purchased it, redownload the DLC, then simply remove that account from their PS3. They still have complete access to this content. Saves are stored via individual account, especially cloud saves. Stats and leaderboards are tied to one ID. I wouldn't let a child play on a high ranked SFIV account. (Not that I have one. I am not an online warrior.)

There are multiple reasons be able to have multiple accounts on a system. Why are there multiple user accounts on Windows? If you say backgrounds / themes I'm just gonna laugh at you.

Someone doesn't know how to read. This was NOT about having multiple accounts on a system. I have 3 accounts on my PS3 right now. One for Japan, one for Europe and one for North America.

This was about being able to have two different accounts logged in at once.

Way to miss the buss.

As for the achievements thing I was talking about the possibility of both players gaining an achievement which honestly has zero bearing on whether a game is good, fun, or a big steaming turd in a box. In multiplayer, especially local multiplayer there is zero drive to get a trophy or achievement to me. Even single player I don't care. To get a trophy the developer often assumes you play a certain way. I play my own way.

The worst thing to come from achievements and trophies is giving them away for plaything through the game normally. Get to mission 2? Get achievement...ugh. The whole point of playing the campaign is to get through each mission.

How about games progress that's saved to each account? In game unlockables linked to a character saved per account?

Stop being a douchebag and realize that not everybody is a shut-in loser that plays games by themselves.

I did mention I do local multiplayer. I also play some games online.

Maybe you need to remove the stick...

who the hell are you to say what is "fun" to gamers? what is fun to someone may not be fun to you. just like you think im missing out on the best story in a game this year by not finishing bioshock infinite. well guess what? the game is boring as hell to me after more than 2 hours, it's not FUN. i don't give a shit about the story because the game is not fun to me. just like there are thousands of "good books" out there but not 1 of them interests me because i don't like reading novels.

there are NUMEROUS reasons why you would want 2 accounts loaded at once and many have been mentioned in this thread already. it's retarded that one would defend that there is "no reason" to have 2 simultaneous accounts loaded at the same time on a console.

Story makes a game most of the time. I'm sorry you didn't get to kill a thousand zombies the first 30minutes of Bioshock Infinite.

I was asking a legitimate question and posting my personal greviences about achievements. I'm sorry if someone who doesn't give a shit about them makes you go off your meds.

oh ok got it. so someone who doesn't like bioshock automatically loves playing zombies cod.

and someone who disagrees with you is on meds.

gotcha.

And I posted a legitimate gripe about the PS3 only to have some jerk (read: you) go off his meds about how there's no conceivable reason to have more than one account logged in.

Here's another reason. Friends lists. Your friends come over and want to play on your console with you and sorry, too bad, so sad, no access to their friends lists to invite other people to games.

Crawl back under the bridge.

Worth the money compared to what? There is only one alternative to play console games online and that is PSN. You either pay the fee, play on PSN, or don't play at all. The features XboxLive offers, while not for everyone, is worth the price to 30 million subscribers. Your idea that they only subscribe because they don't have a choice makes little sense. They had a choice when they chose to use a console with a subscription based online service. The service was in place way before the Xbox360 was released. PSN and the PS3 are the free alternatives, if paying a whole $50 a year breaks your bank.

All of the features I listed are not offered in any single system except XboxLive.

I've been trying to find a reliable source for just how many paid xbox live subscribers there really are, I'm skeptical of this 30 million number, or the even larger 46 million number some places report.

That's more than half of ALL the xboxes ever sold, including all the busted ones. So there are no Silver members ?

Just anecdotal but of the 10 or so people I know who have had Gold accounts at one time or another, only 2 have them right now.

Someone should have read my previous post. Having multiple accounts logged in at the same time isn't just for multiplayer. You can play games online in split screen. Having two, three, or even four accounts logged in allows everyone to have their stats recorded. And access to some playlists reserved for people without guests because they are generally not as serious.

Considering that 60% of the time the 360 is used for media functions which require Xbox Live Gold, that isn't a hard to believe.

Is there any way that they moved the reveal back to drop this "always online" requirement if it was true and they saw all the bad press? Is it something that can be changed and would allow them to still make the launch window?

I doubt it. If they planned an always online system, the interface would be tailored to that I'd imagine. A lot of the core features might require it. If that was the case, they would have to redesign it almost completely. That would either be rushed and awful, or take time. MS wouldn't risk sending out something awful. They know whoever launches first wins this time, unless they have some killer feature.

It makes sense for them to wait for Sony to show their cards first. That way, they can 1 up them. "Oh we have <feature x and feature y> that is better than <PS4 feature x and feature y>"
