I watched the trailer for Sunset Overdrive, and it looks like some crazy fun. Although, one thing did come to mind... there's some rather fancy movement in the game. Now, some may think positively with that as it looks fun. Now, I think it does look fun, but fancy movement systems usually worry me because they tend to be complex and full of odd situations. A good example is the Assassin's Creed games; the games have been refined over the numerous iterations, but the first one was a bit rough. Don't get me wrong... I have some faith in Insomniac to do a good job. I just want to keep that in mind when it comes time for reviews or previews.
if you've ever played ratchet and clank, they have some "on rails" parts that are jumping between different "rails" parts kind of like it looks as it is doing in the video of SO, and it plays very smoothly. i actually think that is what the people at IGN were talking about when they say sometimes the transition between different "rails" are not smooth because it looks like you're making an impossible jump or it just animates weird.
from the looks of the videos, it looks like there are predetermined "rails" you can run along and move along, almost like once you get going, you keep going that way until you jump to another one.
like try to think about it as having no textures, and when he's moving on a "rail" that it is just a straight line (or curved as they showed some curved ones), and that you continue to just slide/move along that one until you either hit the end of it or jump off, possibly onto another one.
and this is insomniac we're talking about here, not ubisoft who is known as a bug ridden company.
i personally don't think this game looks like DR3 at all. even the enemies aren't slow lethargic enemies doing nothing, they look to be fast and rabid. DR3 is so slow in general, and it's dark and dreary, and it has a crappy framerate, with the majority being melee weapons.
oh ... and "rail" !!
