if you've ever played ratchet and clank, they have some "on rails" parts that are jumping between different "rails" parts kind of like it looks as it is doing in the video of SO, and it plays very smoothly. i actually think that is what the people at IGN were talking about when they say sometimes the transition between different "rails" are not smooth because it looks like you're making an impossible jump or it just animates weird.

from the looks of the videos, it looks like there are predetermined "rails" you can run along and move along, almost like once you get going, you keep going that way until you jump to another one.

like try to think about it as having no textures, and when he's moving on a "rail" that it is just a straight line (or curved as they showed some curved ones), and that you continue to just slide/move along that one until you either hit the end of it or jump off, possibly onto another one.

and this is insomniac we're talking about here, not ubisoft who is known as a bug ridden company.

i personally don't think this game looks like DR3 at all. even the enemies aren't slow lethargic enemies doing nothing, they look to be fast and rabid. DR3 is so slow in general, and it's dark and dreary, and it has a crappy framerate, with the majority being melee weapons.

oh ... and "rail" !!

Looks like DR and DR3 specifically because of loopy weapons that look like they are made from stuff lying around. The city design looks very similiar and in a still shot those non zombie creatures completely filling the streets and their positioning around buildings and cars is a lot like DR3. On top of that it the whole setting with nothing but dangerous non humans (however active) completely filling the streets leaving just a few humans is a lot like DR3. The character play, the story, the activity level of the creatures may not be anything like it. I am not suggesting it will even play any thing like DR3. But I see a lot of DR and specifically DR3 like parallels.

Pretty much this. It gives that silly, campy world filled with plebeian hostiles for your destructive pleasure vibe.

the weapons look a lot closer to ratchet and clank weapons than dead rising weapons to me as far as what they actually do. but i do see what you mean about how they look built from stuff found around the city, although it doesn't sound like there is any kind of "weapon building" like DR3 has. sounds like it's just a strict set of weapons.

i also don't think the city looks much like DR3's. it looks a lot more vibrant and it has a lot of vertical'ness to it. the city reminds me a lot of crackdown's city in that respect, as well as due to the colors.

I seem to have really bad luck with the XBOX One. I went to turn it on this weekend, and it made the chime noise when I pushed the power button, but nothing happened. Unlike last time, the power brick had a white LED. Ultimately, it refused to turn on until I pulled the power plug from the back of the X1. After that, it worked without any issues. Honestly, I really don't enjoy having all these issues with it, and it certainly didn't build any confidence in my friend who wanted to check out the X1 and PS4 (didn't care about the Wii U ).

They actually did it.

Also removing Netflix and stuff from Gold requirement.

Cliff notes from the announcement:

news.xbox.com said:
First, beginning on June 9th, in all markets where Xbox One is sold, we will offer Xbox One starting at $399. This is a new console option that does not include Kinect.

Next, we’re bringing more value to Xbox Live Gold members and offering all Xbox 360 and Xbox One owners access to entertainment apps whether or not you have an Xbox Live Gold membership.

We’re pleased to bring Games with Gold to Xbox Live Gold members on Xbox One in June. The program will launch on Xbox One with “Max: The Curse of Brotherhood” and “Halo: Spartan Assault.”

Can they put out a version without the Cloud and knock off another $50?

What about no BD and save $35?

For another $40 off, you get no controller.

And for $99 total, they will just send you a picture of someone playing Titanfall and you can skip purchasing one altogether.

Removing the Kinect requirement kind of kills it for me, the off chance that a developer really took advantage of it were slim but by removing the requirement they have gone to absolutely nil. Now it's just an underpowered console with tv tuner.

Joke post? You actually bought the One for Kinect potential in games?

Potential in general. It means a pivot away from developing a lot of the features I enjoy on my Xbox One which are driven by the Kinect. What incentive does MS have to significantly improve the functionality of the Kinect integration going forward if they're selling Kinect-less SKUs? While I was hopeful (but far from convinced) that an outside developer would do something cool with it, the implication that Microsoft will abandon it is unfortunate.

It was a differentiating factor that I appreciated the potential of, it's not anymore.

Yeah I like the Kinect voice stuff and I have read that Ms will continually add updates to it. They will still sell a stand alone and MS is really good about supporting products, I have no doubt they will continue to improve the Kinect voice commands

Glad this option exists. Now people that don't care about the Kinect or didn't want to spend $100 over a PS4 just to play Xbox One exclusives don't have to.

Personally I love the Kinect. Being able to say "xbox record that" or "xbox go to *whatever*" for something that would normally take many button presses is so awesome.

This just says they are feeling the squeeze sooner than anticipated. I don't feel cheated since I use the kinect sometimes but this means there is less incentive to make it better in a significant way. It is great for the xb1 market though. There will potentially be more customers.

I hope you're right, but this news combined with Phil Spencer taking over tells me there is a pivot on their focus away from features and back to games, which is great, but I hope it doesn't come at the expense of those of us that did by it for the features.

If I wanted "just" a game console, I would have bought the PS4. If that makes sense at all.

I don't think this means they're feeling any squeeze, though as I know nothing about their day to day numbers I couldn't say for sure. I will say there's a new leader and he's changing the direction for a lot of products. Which IMHO is a good thing.

Their 2014 numbers have been largely terrible. By E3 there will be a rough 2 to 1 advantage to PS4 globally. Even in the US, their biggest market, they've lost every month, sometimes by huge percentages. Notably, January was nearly 2 to 1 in favor of PS4, and then March was a 60kish victory for PS4 despite XB1 bundles/price drops/Titanfall release.

The timing of this announcement combined with the wording (the mention of June 9th is a dead giveaway that this was an E3 announcement moved up due to sales problems) means it is a preemptive response to terrible April NPD (releases in the next day or so).

I follow this stuff closely, was one of the people from pre-launch telling people to expect price drops and major competitive action. Of course many said that was insane, but it's clear as day to me. Next up : November $349 XB1 kinectless bundle with a AAA exclusive.

Except, that statement isn't "telling" of anything, except they have no idea how to integrate Kinect features (not just motion controls, btw). There is nothing significant about that statement.
.

oops. Guess Insomniac saw the writing on the wall.

I'm gonna say $349 holiday bundle with 2 games AND 3 months of Live.

Could very well be, it's a fluid situation, depending on sales.

I had this $399 announcement with paywall scaleback pegged for E3, so I was off by a month there.

This is a good start, but would have been much better with a$50 price drop ($350/450). Still not sure whether I will end up with a PS4 or Xbox this generation.
