Make no mistake, 2014 has been an unmitigated disaster for Microsoft on so many levels.
Really, it's been that bad? I thought that since to date the Xbox One has outsold what the 360 did after launch, that it hasn't been a horrible start to the year. I'm glad I came to this board, now I know just how bad things are for Microsoft.

Haven't you heard? If MS doesn't do something this very second, they are going to go out of business by tomorrow.

I mean, the Xbox One has sold more than the Xbox 360 during did during the same time frame without competition.

I guess I will just go sell my Xbox then. Such a shame, here I thought it was a really good console with a lot of fun games to play.

Hahah.

2013 Nov/Dec was terrific. 2014 has been a downward spiral. The latest NPD tracking has the XB1 nearly at a third of the first April for the 360 (and the 360 was supply constrained to boot).

May NPD will be a total bloodbath.

Yes, 2014 has been a spectacular disaster for Xbox. But expect more bold and aggressive moves by Phil. I won't count them out, but people expecting them to even break even sales wise may be in for a surprise.

Bringing a new console out is VERY VERY VERY expensive. And Microsoft just spend untold amounts of money buying copies of a new AAA release to pack in as a giveaway, and paid retailers the difference to discount to $449, and paid ludicrous amounts of money for marketing. It is definitive that the XB1 launch is hugely more expensive for them than the 360 launch was, and yet we have numbers like these :

http://www.neowin.net/news/report-microsofts-xbox-division-has-lost-nearly-3-billion-in-10-years

http://time.com/102585/playstation-4-vs-xbox-one-sales/

Microsoft spins things with the 'outsold 360' claims. But those sales were front-loaded, and demand is now in the toilet. Month on month, they have fallen behind 360. With MASS inventory.

Why does fps matter on a console? I have Never had a fps game or any game stutter or play like crap for me unless it was online mode that was goofed up.

Frames Per Second is important to anything you see on any type of screen. Whether it be a movie, game, or even an operating system on a mobile phone. It's very important on how smooth something looks. I don't understand how you saying you've never noticed it but it's always there. Many games, especially fast paced games like first person shooters or sports games need a higher FPS to look smooth compared to something else like role playing game so of frames per second drop below a certain point or are erratic, you can definitely see it which can detract from the playing experience or even make it impossible to play. I don't know why you say you've never seen it but even big name games have tons of it. Ever played Grand Theft Auto 5? There's tons of it there.

It isn't even that they need a high FPS, just one that doesn't fluctuate. Dark Souls looked fine running at 30FPS and then you got to Blighttown and it turned into a slide show (on both consoles). It became super noticeable just how bad it was, and that was a problem.

Also, certain games require a stead FPS or it is an actual detriment to the game. If you aren't getting 60FPS on SF4, good luck getting 1 frame links.

Fast action games benefit too like God of War and Ninja Gaiden.

I can't tell you guys much, but Halo 5 will utilize the X1 to the fullest.

Think Kinect, think Azure cloud servers, etc. This game will be the showcase for the X1, as Halo has always been for Xbox.

Kinect? If it uses Kinect in any significant way meaning if I don't use it the game will not be as playable or whatnot, I won't buy it.

Excellent assumptions on my experience with things, stupendous work.

I'm basing my opinion of Destiny on what they have given us, which is one video of gameplay on the Xbox One. I don't know how it's apparently wrong to form an opinion of it, but you seem to think so, in which case I apologize to the whole of humanity for giving an opinion based on the information provided. That was wrong of me.

There is more than just one video. You aren't looking. Also their videos have been primarily PS4 footage, whether there would be a difference or not I can't say.

That's all understandable. I'm just saying that like the weather, if there's something with the XB1 that doesn't seem acceptable, just wait a minute, it will change (other than the specs of course).

GWG can and probably WILL change, big time. It's one of the easiest things for them to implement in a better fashion for positive PR and goodwill with gamers.

Make no mistake, 2014 has been an unmitigated disaster for Microsoft on so many levels. But Spencer isn't going to sit on his hands. E3 will have surprises, and if $399 SKU doesn't lead in June/July, more massive changes will come. Microsoft can't afford to fall back much in the US, as they don't have the rest of the world to prop them up like the PS3 was globally last gen. There would be no PS4 if the global numbers had been like the US shift last time.
It has been bad for the Xbox compared to the PS4 but Microsoft itself is doing quite well. The Xbox is basically a hobby for Microsoft so while the failure of Xbox makes them look bad, it doesn't really affect the company itself. I do imagine that if they can't get back on track they will spin Xbox off though.

In any case, I didn't buy the XB1 Titanfall bundle yesterday, but now Fry's has the XB1 w/Kinect (no games) for $430 this week. Unless a better deal comes up, I'll probably be getting that.

I guess I should elaborate.

$430 for XB1 + Kinect + Titanfall is better than :

$399 XB1 bare (the coming deal for summer)

and

$349 XB1 w/Sunset Overdrive (probable late fall/early winter deal)

Plus you get more months playtime. Waiting for a $50 or even $100 discount if you're going to use it a lot isn't all it's cracked up to be.

Waiting for games that you want OTOH is very valid. It seems the majority of the market is still waiting anyway.

BY LEAH B. JACKSONHalo: The Master Chief Collection has been revealed for Xbox One.

According to a report from Engadget, the Master Chief Collection will include remastered versions of Halo: Combat Evolved, Halo 2, Halo 3 and Halo 4 and will be out this year.

Halo: The Master Chief Collection aims to refresh gamers' memories about Master Chief in advance of Halo 5: Guardians, which was announced today. As such, Halo 3: ODST and Halo: Reach won't be included.

Microsoft has not given details on the project. It's still unknown who's developing, the resolution and frame rate, or if the collection will release on other platforms.

As we learn more about Halo: The Master Chief Collection we'll be sure to let you know.

I cant wait to see what they save for e3!

Last week the Fry's deal was: XB1/Kinect/Titanfall for $460
This week's deal is: XB1/Kinect for $430

It seems to be a slightly better deal since the code seems to be going for $30 on ebay but you aren't forced into buying it.

I know what it is I have fraps on my pc and that's how I measure it there. I know what you mean, it's just that on consoles it's never bothered me much. On pc it definitely bothers me because I can tell right away when I crank up settings.

*shrug* it seems like they're letting everything out early anyway. Remastered games are alright I guess but I've already played these.

360:
April 2006 - 295K
April 2007 - 174K
April 2008 - 188K
April 2009 - 175K
April 2010 - 185K
April 2011 - 297K
April 2012 - 236K
April 2013 - 130K

Xbox One:
April 2014 - 115K

The 360 sold 71k. Maybe the 360 will sell more than the Xbox One next month.

What was stunning to me is that Titanfall is selling better on the 360 versus the One. Wasn't the 360 version considered an afterthought?

Maybe it was but there's how many people out there with a 360? 60mil? More? There's roughly 6million people with a XB1? Of those maybe 40% actually play online FPS games? I'm guessing at current numbers and percentages(maybe someone knows and will correct me) but the reality is that there is more of a chance to get sales on a console with more players.

I like that the Halo collection is coming, but I think they're doing themselves a disservice by not including Reach, which I'd say had the best campaign of any FPS I've played (I'm freely saying I've not really played a PC FPS like Half-Life to compare).

I never played Reach, nor ODST, but neither of those featured Master Chief, right?

I don't get why people get so defensive when something like this is stated. Xbone is doing terrible. MSFT wouldn't be changing their whole approach at XBL (something that has held true for 8+ years) because all of a sudden they care about consumers.

Doing a 180 on multiple stated goals doesn't give anyone the implication that you're still on track for your expectations. They essentially killed Kinect, something they sold us since May 2013 as a definitive feature of the Xbone experience.

115k in April that's a little over half of what PS4 sold. No one would ever imagine a 2:1 sale victory for Sony in the USA. And this happened in February too.
