I never played Reach, nor ODST, but neither of those featured Master Chief, right?

No, ODST focused on a single rookie member of the orbital drop shock trooper squad and his separation from the team. It also had a focus on the fall of new mombassa and the covenant assault on the city including diary notes found throughout the city from the perspective of a citizen caught in the middle of the fighting. It was a fantastic story angle IMO. Some people didn't like it because it was lighter on action and focused less on the greater storyline of the halo universe.

The current rumor for Halo Collection makes me sad Reach would be left out.

I'd trade Halo 4 for Reach.

Anyways, Day 1 for me if reasonably priced

wow i just read that far cry 4 is coming out this winter! pretty excited about that, part 3 was pretty damn amazing. i hope we see a bit of it at e3 this year. i'm also curious to see how the graphical quality will vary between ps4 and x1. this will probably be the first multiplat game i'll have to choose between.

Honestly I played through Far Cry 3 and thought the ideas were good but the game was too repetitive. All the characters looked the same too. They reused the same facial models a lot. Turning on the radio towers and capturing the bases got old real fast for me. It is one of the things I also hate about assassin's creed, getting viewpoints. Same idea in a way.

I hope they do something very different now and make it more varied in game play.

Yeah, Microsoft's response to the player base since the launch of the console has been exceptional. Looking forward to the update.

Some really good features coming in the June update.

http://majornelson.com/2014/05/21/e...e-coming-with-xbox-one-system-update-in-june/

I love that they are constantly updating the console and adding in things that people want.

In b4 "but all that should have been in the release version! MS is just trying to trick you so they can reverse their decisions we said we wanted and enable DRM so our TV won't even turn off if the Xbox One isn't phoning home!"

surprised they didn't mention any "auto sign in without kinect" in that update, considering kinect-less x1's will be in homes starting early june.

EDIT: i'm blind.

They did confirm that auto sign in is coming in this update.
Yeah it was confirmed. I figured you would be happy about that purbeast. And smackababy, I agree, some people will try to look at it that way. I just like that they are evolving the console as we go along, and we aren't having to wait for the yearly updates they used to do. With the external hard drive and real name, I believe they have made good on all the things they announced would happen with the One.

This is why I always had confidence in the Xbone. Microsoft just has so much UI and software development knowledge that I knew it would be consistently evolving. Something that can't be said of PS side. The only question was whether their vision and ours converge or separated more than it already had. Glad to see an active attempt to answer most of the communities issues (even if sometimes I feel like it had been better if they didn't for 1 or two things).

Yeah they have been very quick to evolve this time. I own both systems and do find it funny that the only change of note I have seen on my ps4 is the ability to dim that god awful light on my controller, while the Xbox continues to add stuff. To be fair, some of the changes were things that they were just getting back to the way it worked last gen, but they are still showing us that they can move quickly on these things this generation.

Yea ps4 added share factory and pretty much the ability to export videos to usb as well as add music to videos from usb flash drives. I'm waiting for them to add more features and dlna if that ever happens.

I knew MS would be quicker with updates they are a software company of course they know their stuff it's just a matter of implementing it properly for the Xbox.

Maybe, but when it comes to gaming I think the PS4's UI is much better designed. It's more straight forward that's for sure. The XB1 needs more work especially considering the SKU with no kinect. Plus I still occasionally have issues where games won't launch or apps don't work and I have to totally shut down the console (not stand by) to get it working again. So it makes sense that they pushed more updates. Most of the PS4 updates have been minor things under the hood with the exception of share factory.

The PS4 UI has it's problems. Since you can't pin anything, you just have a long line of any game you own, making you have to sift thru everything just to find what you want. Not to mention the fact that they have every app available in the app section, whether you have downloaded it or not. They have some things they can work out on their side, that's for sure.

No doubt, but I dislike having to open an app to see what games and apps I have available. In a way that just seems silly. The major issue facing the PS4 IMO is that someone like me with 17 games installed it sort of lags the scroll animations when you shift the menu side to side. Like you said it can be a long line and will continue to get larger. Luckily the latest ones go on the left. I do like the fact that selecting a game or app will show you your friend's recent activity and the latest news about the game (updates and DLC etc). That's something I think MS should work on, give you relevant info about the game or app without having to open another app separately.

The focus on everything being an App to mirror Windows 8 touch UI and windows phone was kind of a bad decision in my view. It's not something that is unfixable should they want to make some changes there though.

My problem with the Xbox UI is that DLC for games is stupid. If something new for a game I own comes out, it should show when I am looking at my games and take me to it if I choose. And, the DLC should be easily notifiable as having been purchased / downloaded. Every single time a new car pack is released for Forza, I have to wade through and decided which I have and haven't downloaded. I have the season pass, just download that crap automatically...

True...like when I look at killzone on PS4 just below it it tells me if any of my friends have played recently and tells me there is a DLC pack for it. I can click there and it will drop me into PSN and tell me if I have it or not. Something like that.

I'd really just like to see only unpurchased content and not everything though. Give me an option to hide things I have installed already. Only show me things I don't already have.

Well I was think UI and features wise. Sony has been typically very slow to adapt, and they didn't making any changes to what I'd call the worst console UI ever (PS3). Bug fixes are one thing and they both were pretty good about it in the last gen, and if one of the two is likely to reintroduce a bug they already fixed its MS. But as a whole I know that what we want from our consoles in 6 years isn't going to be what we want today. My 40GB fat and my day one Premium lasted pretty much the whole gen (the 20GB premium is still running but not in my possession). So while I wouldn't suggest buying something for what it may include in the future for some its not just to play games and other apps now, but for 2020 as well. I have confidence the Xbox interface feature set will grow with our requirements. I am not so sure the same applies to Sony's PS4.

In the end its no skin off my back. Both systems let me play 98% of the console games I want to play. But the system that's easier to use and has the better features gets the mindshare of me doing all my non gaming on it. Right now and probably throughout this console era, it will be the Xbone. That means no video sales, less attention to their PSN store, less add revenue, and so on.
