It does not support MKV yet according to the article. Still great to see it getting updated. Mine arrives today finally. I wonder how long it is going to take to update it....
Bah...

Can someone explain what is so hard about playing back an mkv file? Why does nothing except my PC do it?

It shouldn't take long to update, depending on the speed of your internet. I would guess probably an hour total for a new system.

MKVs are tricky because they aren't a real format, just a container. The video could still be an MP4 or whatever, but the associated data packaged inside (additional audio, subtitles, etc) might be something unrecognizable. Now, this isn't necessarily a problem, because the codecs to play all these do exist, but most companies refuse to support third party stuff.

When State of Decay debuted on Xbox Live last June, it broke a number of genre gameplay conventions: characters die permanently, story progression isn't pre-scripted, and the world continues to change even when players are offline. Fans responded enthusiastically to this "zombie survival fantasy" spin on the genre, ensuring a bright future for the State of Decay franchise.

So what's next for State of Decay? In Spring 2015, Xbox One owners will have the opportunity to experience the definitive version of State of Decay with the Year-One Survival Edition. Earlier this week, we paid a visit to Undead Labs' studios to learn more:

The State of Decay: Year-One Survival Edition will include the original State of Decay, now running in glorious 1080p, previously released Add-on packs Breakdown and Lifeline, as well as some entirely new content. Undead Labs will reveal more on the new content closer to release, and you'll read about it here when they do.

I never played this on the 360, how is it?

I'll be honest, I never played it, the reviews were good for it on the 360, but I am kind of sick of zombies so I won't even look at it.

I bought it on day one. Yes it's zombies but it's fairly different than what we've had. Your characters can permanently die, you have to build up your stronghold and eventually move if it gets destroyed too much. If you don't come back tomorrow the game for a while things happen while you're gone. It's definitely something everyone should try out. It was very glitchy when it came out so I hope they fixed that.

I have state of decay for pc since I bought it during a steam sale. Have not played it yet but I don't think they have done any updates. It's like a gta with zombies.

I'm annoyed. My Xbox updated but then it makes me do the TV setup all over again as if I never did it before and my kinect wouldn't turn on the console. When I touched the power button it shut down completely instead of starting in quick start mode. That stuff shouldn't happen from an update, your settings should be saved forever. It doesn't help that I had to shut the system off completely again and start up fresh to get sound from my cable box. Now the OneGuide doesn't work right and it's showing all channels even when I have the option to hide SD duplicates selected.

While the media player is a nice addition, it needs to be able to connect via a network. Limiting it to USB storage is kind of pathetic IMO. I understand it's a preview so before you say that let me get that out there. They should have gotten it to work as the 360 did where you can connect to devices on a network before they released it in my opinion. I can already tell windows to play a video to my XB1, i just need a browser that can connect the other way. Not a big deal, but things like this should be fleshed out before they release them. When it's released with half the functionality it should have, it comes off as releasing updates for the sake of releasing updates and to give the impression that they are constantly updating the console. I'd rather them wait a couple months and do a big comprehensive update than to release things that have half the promised features. They said DLNA will come to the media player by the end of the year, I'd have rather waited. That's just me though.

I can understand your annoyance and I wish we had better network support also at this point, but we shouldn't minimize what we just recieved. FAT32 limitations has been a huge bane for people who wanted to put media on external drives. Native NTFS support is a huge deal. With exception of some very large media collections, being able to use 4-6TB external drives means finally using the XB1 as a viable HTPC alternative. I'm with you on the importance of proper DLNA support though. It can't come soon enough.

I guess it remains to be seen whether Sony will provide NTFS support, it is actually a big deal for compatibility sake.

I'm not really one to use DLNA at all to be honest, that was just something I think the media player should have had when they released it. My main complaint right now with this update was the TV and oneguide functionality. I had to basically start over there. It asked me my provider, my zip code, and it forgot what TV and AVR I had in there before. Once I got all that set back up the oneguide doesn't work right. It had 3 options...Show all channels, hide SD duplicate channels, or show only HD channels. When I select to show only HD channels it will display a single cinemax channel and a single hbo channel and that's it. Literally only two channels. When I tell it to hide duplicate SD channels which would have hidden any SD channels that also have an HD version before, it will display all the channels. That option is no longer working as it was. This is a problem. Updates breaking basic functionality. I have used the OneGuide since release and it worked perfectly in my experience. Now they updated and are supposed to start offering the TV Mini Guide feature in some areas, but the standard oneguide options don't work as a result, at least for me they don't.

that is lame that you had to redo your settings. i had some issues with killer instinct after a killer instinct update once. like every time i would start up the game i would have to reset my buttons, it never saved. but then all of a sudden it started saving so i dunno wtf was up.

I had that issue with killer instinct too. I thought it was because I unplugged the arcade stick.

For those who have Dead Rising 3, is any of the DLC worth it? I see that the Arcade mode one is mostly for co-op, but is there an active community?

Otherwise, I'm fresh out of games to play on the XB1 right now.

I don't have any of the DLC, but I enjoyed the normal content for DR3. I imagine the extra mission or two is nice, but I don't think it adds a ton.

i'm not even sure why you are comparing the division to destiny where it has to be one or the other. they aren't even similar at all and they are coming out like a year apart.

After demoing Forza with a racing wheel, it's hard to go back to just using the XB controller. Are there any high quality wheels available other than THIS?http://www.bestbuy.ca/en-CA/product...-racing-wheel-mcb48503bm02-01-1/10255479.aspx

Anybody else looking forward to The Division? I think I'm leaning that way over Destiny.

Jet
Not really. I don't care about the division at all. The game play they were showing looked too staged to me, they even had scripted chat during the stage event. Mainly though I am very tired of "realistic" shooters or anything that tries to be modern combat. After nearly a decade of that genre of shooter, it is stale for me.

Not to mention that like purebeast said, the games come out so far apart and are vastly different. The division doesn't have loot and isnt as heavy on the RPG elements. Plus you could probably see and do everything mission and story wise in destiny before the division releases.

Then I saw this. A closed door gamescom demo and one person was not impressed. The game is visually downgraded from previous videos, it uses no or very little AA and runs 30fps. On its own that wouldn't be too bad because other games run 30fps and feel fine but they showed the game to the public one way and then a closed event not open to the public looks different. That is hard to get behind for me. Granted this is one persons view from a single demo, but ubisoft doesn't have a solid track record outside of rayman and assassins creed for me.

From the previews I was interested in the division but since it's been delayed so far ahead I'm not sure now. It's not like Destiny at all its more of a team survival game with similar aspects for combat.

Yes I understand that the two games are totally different...I was comparing the two because I didn't think I would have time for both as they both seem like titles I would pour alot of hours into. TBH I didn't realize the division would be pushed back SO far. I was originally thinking Q1/Q2 2015 but some are saying maybe even 2016? If that's the case, then yeah I'll get it. I'll be done with Diablo 3 and Alien Iso...
