Wonder why ps4 doesn't have NTSF support... couldn't be Microsoft behind that or anything.

Well for the system drive it would have never been NTFS as there is no reason to. I'm talking about external drive support. It's probably about license fees costs. MS owns exFAT also so I'm not sure how Sony will get around paying MS. Ultimately, the question is that assuming Sony actually allows external drives to serve multimedia files, do they go with NTFS (or the more likely exFAT) or do they require users to reformat to some proprietary format and then make them copy files over to it. I get that people who only play games could probably care less, but it is an important consideration to others.

I'd imagine Sony already has to pay MS a licensing fee for exFAT, so I'm not sure why they haven't patched in NTFS support yet. I doubt it's due to anything MS is doing to keep NTFS locked up though.

I think the PS4's supported exFAT since patch 1.7. Someone please correct me on this if I'm wrong.

I'm unsure if NTFS implementations are that simple. I think the only way to get it in an embedded system is one of the drivers out there already - NTFS-3G, Linux NTFS or the Tuxera NTFS. Regardless, if Sony uses NTFS-3G, there's no licensing to MS needed (reverse engineered).

Yes and yes, but this console is called the Wii U.

Exact example of console that is going to struggle with 3rd party support that went through my head writing that. The OG Wii had a feature that sold consoles and those console sales forced companies to put the resources in to developing for such an anemic system. To top it off the Wii wasn't nearly as far behind as the WiiU is performance wise.

Huh? Wii U believe it or not has some of the best games this generation. XBOX ONE and PS4, regardless of console sales, has what, under 5 each? Just my opinion of course, but madden 15 doesn't count...exclusives count.

that said, coming from someone who has dust on all 3 consoles.

I got my One back from MS(yet again) and I am having to reinstall everything again, Titanfall will not install. I get to about 20% and it says to try again, disc may be damaged or dirty but it is fine.

The One has been the most unreliable console I have ever had. I sent it in this last time for issues with the hdmi input. My Fire TV or anything hooked into it would have flickering screens. I hooked my Fire TV to it and so far the screen hasnt been flickering but I have seen a white static screen briefly when switching. I think I am just going to end up putting the Fire TV on a different hdmi input on my tv It will save some wear on my One from running when not in use as well.

Why would you run a low power device like an Apple TV or Fire TV (or Roku) through a high power XBox 1?

For the convenience of switching between the two. I will be switching the Fire TV over to another port when the optical cable I ordered off amazon comes in though. When my Xbox was still in repair and I had the Fire TV hooked to my tv I noticed it looked a noticeably better, going through the One must degrade the quality quite a bit

You were right up until this point. The Wii U is closer in performance to the PS4/One than the Wii was to the PS3/360. A quick look at the specifications of all platforms makes this plain as day. The Wii U even has multiple 1080p/60fps games.

Have they said anything about running fire tv through the Xbox? I thought MS does the advanced rma process.

You might have had a point until you equated 1080p and 60fps to the capabilities of the GPU.

I am not sure what you mean about the Fre TV. I sent my One in with a prepaid label but they did give the option of them sending me a One first

While I would generally say that the best option for comparing consoles is comparing exclusives, I don't agree with it in this sense. When you're arguing One or PS4 against the Wii U, I think you absolutely need to generally include quality titles missing from the other console. So, while comparing the One to the PS4 makes including Madden (if you consider it a "quality title," I think it's OK), comparing those x86 consoles to the Wii U should absolutely include considering those EA titles which make it to the x86 consoles, but not the Wii U.

To that point you initially made, it's hard for me to judge. I don't care about the PS4's exclusives (except baseball, and pass on a $400 investment for that alone), so I'd compare the Wii U and the One, the two consoles I actually own. However, the Wii U was basically purchased as a local multiplayer machine, and it lives at my sister's as almost exclusively a Mario Kart 8 machine since that game launched (I got the console a couple of weeks before that). I've got 5 other games (NSMBU, Super Luigi U, SM3DW, Tropical Freeze, Wind Waker HD), but they barely get touched because we paly the console 1-2 days/week, and it's always 2- or 3-player MK8.

All of that stuff said, it means that the only quality title I can vouch for is Mario Kart 8. We really liked (and didn't 100% complete) NSMBU, but it's also essentially the standard fare for the franchise, but easier (due to Boost Mode). On the other hand, backwards compatibility (and the flooding of retro titles to the eShop) give the Wii U a multi-generational well of quality titles to dip into, which I think is a feature that needs some SERIOUS emphasis until Nintendo can finish building out the library of the new console (SSB, Fire Emblem, Zelda, Metroid, etc.).

There is then my Xbox One. None of the titles have blown me away, but really the only title which disappointed me was Kinect Sports Rivals. Watch Dogs was a game I liked (especially since it ended up being the equivalent of a 2-week rental for $5). Madden is nice. Forza is a strong racer, despite a lack of content. Powerstar Golf and The Golf Club are both nice opposites for the golf game genre. There isn't anything I like as much as Mario Kart 8, but there is a lot more I like to play.

That's the hard part of deciding between the consoles, and it's why I call the Wii U the third-best option for owning one console, but the top option for owning two: there is a shallow library, but a great set of experiences you won't get on the similarly-developed, x86-based consoles.

I would send it back maybe this time get an advanced rma. Dell did that with my laptop years ago, it came back with the same issue, screen flickering and other hardware issues. Eventually they sent a tech out a bunch of times and they literally replaced every piece of the laptop piece by piece on each visit lol. Would have been better to give me a replacement after the first try.

I'm considering getting the EA Access but had a question. The games that I download from EA Access, will they be listed with the other games that I have loaded on my XB1 or do I have to open the EA Access app to see/play the EA games?

They are listed alongside all other games like normal. No need to go into the EA Access app to launch.

I'll agree with this; the only game on the PS4 I wanted was the steampunk one (can't remember, it had a year in the title) - beyond that...no ****s given. As for XB1 games, none have blown me away yet...but no early 360 games did either. Mass Effect was the first game that made me go "wow, this console was worth it!" (then I played ME1 on PC and went "Wow, playing that on a console isn't worth it!" Stupid Mako.)

Anyway....your point makes sense: the PS4 and XB1 overlap so much that the only reason you should care about one or the other is because either your friends are on one of the two platforms predominantly, or there is an exclusive you really want. If neither of those two statements matter to you - then it's a toss up which console you grab. Microsoft isn't going anywhere, and neither is the XB1. Sony isn't going anywhere (despite the company not doing well these days...) and neither is the PS4. The only practical upshot I saw to the XB1 was that Microsoft is listening to people and changing things. Phil Spencer has been incredibly franks and I really appreciate that, so I'll reward Microsoft by buying their console.

I go to the app to see what was added but it simply links you to the Xbox game store.

I think that's how it works?

Does EA access have any games worth the subscription yet? (forgetting Madden. Ever since playing Madden 95 on my Sega Genesis, I've had zero interest in those games. Yuck.)

I mostly agree. You mean The Order: 1886, but it's got a bit of overlap with Gears (though not with the steroid-induced art/character style), in that it's a cover-based TPS (I didn't know that until a long while into development). There wasn't a title on the One that I cared much for at the start, but it was offered to me as a gift for my college graduation, so I went with it. Now, I'm mostly glad I did, because the 360 hasn't had jack worth getting in 2 years, but I enjoy playing Forza 5, a couple of golf titles (PSG and TGC), Madden 15, and Titanfallis decent. Then, the HD Halo collection's out soon, there are a couple of nice-looking racing titles out soon (FH2 and The Crew), and 2015 has two games I'm really intrigued by (Dying Light and The Division).

The Wii U, I don't know. I got it with NSMBU and SLU. The former was made too easy with Boost Mode, so we already beat most of it, and it only took maybe 5-10 days. I then picked up Tropical Freeze, which never gets touched (mostly because it's 2-player and there are 3 of us doing co-op) and SM3DW, which we only played once and didn't have a ton of love for. The console is almost exclusively a Mario Kart machine, and the free game I got with that (Wind Waker HD) got played once for 10 minutes.

So my statement was that the Wii U covers a different spectrum of games than the other consoles, so it's a great secondary option, but it's also almost useless after local multiplayer, which not everyone has the chance to enjoy.
