Why do you act like the family share thing is something amazing. You've been able to do it all along already You aren't playing Halo and your son wants too, he can play it, hell anybody can play it that you give that disc too with no restrictions. I don't understand how this is some new magical feature just because MS made it a bullet point to try and make it look like one doesn't mean it is one.
I remember... it was a lot of drama.. those people creating all that drama now have steam accounts.
The funny thing is that Steam just got sued for not allowing you to resell a used game so that may be changing. The beauty is that if steam were to implement a system where you can transfer your key to another user, it wouldn't be that big of a deal since games can be had for cheap there not long after they come out anyway. The video game companies are just trying to save their $60 price point with all their might.

Me and my brothers live in different parts of the country. Consolidating our game library online makes sense, especially for the single player story driven games that this makes sense for like Mass Effect.
True, I see a lot of people that think the Xbone does more than it does. It's a tuner and PIP device in all practical terms.
Maybe they will add DVR capability? I imagine the only reason it's not there yet is some digital licensing fees that MS is hesitant to get involved with. After all, you're not 'officially' supposed to be able to even DVR NFL games AT ALL, and NFL is one of the partners. Technically you could be sued by the NFL for taping one of their games. But they mainly go after bigger fish than individuals.
There is no way in hell the cable providers will let the xbone work as a DVR for their services unless MS pays them a crapload of money to offset the loss they will have by not having a customer pay for their DVR.
U-verse lets you use the 360 as a receiver but you have to pay ATT $50 to turn on the feature and you get no DVR functionality.

That actually would be pretty cool if you were comfortable using each other's Live accounts. Let your brother(in another city) sign in with your Live account when you're at work and he can play all your games(after he downloads a couple). Or one goes away for the weekend and one of you log in with his to play a new game he got.
That's almost the same as mailing him the disc, plus you get the benefit of him getting you achivements!
So in short, the Xbone does really nothing but make an existing media room setup more complicated?
Extra Xbox console, extra Kinect, plug it into your cable box, plug it into your DVR, crap everywhere. Oh, and keep your 360 connected as well unless you don't ever want to play 360 again.
To be fair, the PS4 is the exact same way, it's not like it's going to save you any space.
It's just that any hype about the Xbone's media BS is just silly, and often misunderstood. "I'll replace my DVR! I can replace my tuner!!" Nope.
You really think they went through all this trouble on used games to let 10 people split a game library which is 100x worse? There will be fine print on this like it will have to be under 1 main account with sub accounts for the house hold. A limit on time played on a system that is not the home console. There will be something you can bet on that. Just like FTP sounds great right but it is behind the gold pay wall. You can be they will be looking for what you and your bother will try and do. Then ban the account and games are rendered useless.
Exactly. Why spend all this time clamping down on licensing, then open it up to anybody who can claim 9 random people are their family? You know websites for setting up "families" would spring up immediately.
We get it, you don't like it. They already allow a 360 to act as a tuner for U-Verse, why wouldn't they allow an X1 to do the same thing?

Limiting it the same way they limited the $99/year 5 person family plan. Using a single credit card and requiring everyone to be part of the same "household." That's not to say people didn't cheat, but it's a real pain in the ass when you have to call someone to ask them to add points to your account.
It doesn't matter at this point, we know they are offering it in some way, anything beyond 10 users in a family having a shared game library of some sort is just speculation. I will say, if it's borked in some way with hoops way beyond my expectations, I'll cancel my preorder and hold off on this generation for a 6 months or so and see how things are going.
A tuner is not a DVR like most people think it is. And U-verse does not let you use the 360 as a box unless you have another box from ATT as the master box. So once again the xbone does not and will not ever let you get rid of your current providers cable or satellite box. This is a strong misconception that people seem to have with the console.
Except you've already stated this is nothing like the family plan. These are separate account. And if they all have to be in the same household, what's to stop people from lying? Are they eliminating Live Gold cards? Is it credit card only? Why couldn't 10 random people team up from an Xbox live account sharing site, then put money on a prepaid Visa and pay for it that way?
I will almost guarantee you that the system will not be nearly as friendly as you seem to believe.
Have fun coordinating your gaming times, since only one of your family members can play at a time.
I don't want to alarm anyone, but...if MS succeeds at this, the terrorists have won.
ohh..and Microsoft hates your freedom (in my best G. W. Bush voice).
