i was just talking to a buddy and we were thinking about what xbox1 can honestly think they can use to win people over over them buying the ps4.

with xbox1 you literally get nothing better. the only thing "better" is exclusives, but that is totally subjective to a persons opinion. but factually we know the following:

1. you pay $100 more a less powerful console.
2. you can't rent or lend games to your friends.
3. the used game sale/purchase thing is a mess.
4. you have to have kinect connected, which it sounds like many people don't even want
5. you get more stuff on the "free" accounts on either system, on ps4 (ie, netflix is free on ps4, not on x1).

like other than xbox live being an already set in place sysetm that people trust, and exclusives, can anyone honestly think of 1 reason why the x1 would be a better purchase over the ps4? like if you had to convince someone, how would you do it?

i'm just curious what people can come up with.

1. This is one of few things that irks me though currently my 360 spends 10% of the time it is on gaming, so the media aspect makes up for this for me at the moment. If I transition into a new gaming phase of my life I may have to purchase a PS4.
2. I don't rent games and I really only lend between people with my family. I "trial" games with demos or buy them.
3. I don't buy/sell used on any of my platforms currently. PC Gaming I do via Steam and on my 360 I buy new or wait until the price has dropped if I'm not that excited about it.
4. I'm cautiously optimistic for the new Kinect, even The Verge, which has torn MS a new asshole for the X1 has written positive articles for it.
5. I'm going to be buying a premium online account no matter which system I go with, so I don't really care what the free account does or does not offer.

If I had to convince someone it would be based on:
The past superiority of Xbox Live is indicative of the online services I expect to receive this time around. Sony cannot vaguely compete with the size and scope of Azure.
The media features are great for the living room IMO (some disagree).
I think the fantasy sports integration and such is amazing and I can see a million ways to expand on TV with overlays.
The potential for integration across their W8/WP8 platform.
The exclusive games (mmm Forza).
Familiarity for returning Xbox users.
The potential of the new Kinect (increased resolution means no more arms waving shit, it can be more subtle and interesting like zombies responding to noise and such)
Sharing games with family members.
Taking your games with you everywhere you go with just a login.

Clearly, I believe in the platform as a whole even if pure gaming on the PS4 is superior. I don't identify as a hardcore gamer, I find games I like and play them until I'm bored. I probably bought 20 games over the last generation and a handful of XBLA games.

Honestly I can't think of any. Halo fanboys will certainly get it no matter what. Some people will get it because their Halo fanboy friend got it, just so they have the same system. Some...just because they enjoyed XBox so much this gen and are the type of person resistant to change....yeah I'm reaching at this point I can't come up with anything else.

So basically you rarely game on your 360, you don't rent games, and you don't buy used games.

You're in the steep minority and it sounds like MS is targeting your market specifically. Problem is that won't sustain itself.

It's not that I rarely game, it's that it isn't the primary reason I use my console. I asked a room full of 20 somethings earlier that actually do game and none of them rent anymore either. A few of them buy games used, a few more sell used. The room was fairly split on those buying X1's and PS4. I think Microsoft is actually doing a fairly good job targeting the console buyer market. The latest data says the average gamer is 37 (30 if you include mobile games). Think about that market and how well it'll integrate into their lifestyle:

User gets home from work, sees there is nothing on TV. He has 30 minutes until dinner and decides to play a game. "Xbox play game." Instantly he is where he left off last time. He plays his piece, "xbox off." Dinner is over, wife wants to watch a movie, "Xbox on." "Xbox search yadda yadda."

I can dig it and I think others will too if MS can sell it. It is true that it definitely is not targeting the online forum/reddit crowd.

honestly, neither can i. if i get one it is going to be killer instinct that puts me over the edge. i will of course purchase other games too, but that is because i will have purchased it cause of ki.

True, I see a lot of people that think the Xbone does more than it does. It's a tuner and PIP device in all practical terms.

Maybe they will add DVR capability? I imagine the only reason it's not there yet is some digital licensing fees that MS is hesitant to get involved with. After all, you're not 'officially' supposed to be able to even DVR NFL games AT ALL, and NFL is one of the partners. Technically you could be sued by the NFL for taping one of their games. But they mainly go after bigger fish than individuals.

Well, I would imagine MS already pays licensing fees of some sort because you're able to use WMC as a DVR front end. I doubt the XBone has this capability as it requires extra hardware that accepts M-Cards (this is how a TiVo works) from your cable provider, but they make no mention of this.

Really the XBone is just acting as a middle man when it comes to cable, they're just letting you view the stream through the XBone instead of through the cable box it self and to the best of my knowledge you can't capture cable streams over HDMI.

I wish WMC caught on better, probably MS best project that is now sadly neglected

sit down with the devs and wow they are REALLY giving me some hope. they are realyl looking to get people to play the game to get feedback. they state they want to hear what sucks and what feels bad, so they can tweak it. really good to hear that from a dev flat out.

they also state the f2p thing is more of a 'massive demo' because the full game will be available at launch with everything.

definitely feeling better about this game after hearing the news this morning.

Thank god full version available. Can't wait for Evo now! I hope I get to play it hands on.

Sounds like they are doing some BlazBlue type of training as well! That is awesome. Teaching fundamentals to scrubs should be stressed!

I did and it's backtracking on the original plan for the game i'm sure of it. It's fine though...better off to have the full game and not the f2p model which stinks totally.

i don't understand how it can be "backtracking" when it was originally reported that it was f2p with jago being the only free character, and having to pay for the rest of the characters separately, when that is exactly what the dev said is happening.

With all of the people they basically name dropped, they wouldn't try and screw over the FCG. FilthyRich knows people have been banned from Evo for life due to trying to stab people. It is a charge of like $1, then they zero it. That is just to make sure the card is real.

Be careful though, if you delete the address associated or the card expires before then, it is a pain in the ass to change it. Happened to me for SC2 HotS. I preordered the collector's edition and moved afterwards. I removed the address from my account and even the guys from Amazon help couldn't fix it. I got it sorted out and got my order (which was available nowhere if you didn't preorder), but it was a hassle.

You don't get charged until it ships but I've never seen an authorization for blu-rays from them when I'd order early.

Renting games is obviously large enough to keep Gamefly alive and have it at Redbox as well. Even though I almost never rent games anymore, enough people do to keep that side going. I will sometimes browse the used game section of Gamestop for something real cheap. Picked up Assasssin's Creed 1 on PS3 for $8 and thought it was crap. Without used games I would have never known Assasssin's Creed was so horrible.
