To be fair, the 360 had a lot of exclusives at first, but they all died off. That is why I will be skeptical, even when they are announcing all their exclusives at e3.
This is rather ignorant. There were quite a few quality exclusives for the 360.
And I can confirm the pictures of the controller show a mini USB port. I would assume a mic would plug into that, if it is not wireless.

There is a MiniUSB on the top but what about this? On the bottom.
I didn't see that. That is their "accessory port" then. I imagine there is an adapter that connects to a headset / "chat pad" / or any other silly peripheral that MS and 3rd parties decide to sell.
again, as i've mentioned time and time again, how will they stop it from being installed on 2 consoles that are offline with the same serial number? they can't.
you guys do know that upcs and barcodes are not unique, right?
Cause any fool could steal a box with the UPC from gamestop.
also not being able to rent games from redbox and blow through them in a couple days... yeah, all of this is really going to play a much larger role in my decision to purchase this console than i had initially thought. before the conference yesterday i was 100% going to get this day 1. now i'm totally up in the air and need to wait for more information before i decide.
people are going to HATE playing games with me online if it uses the kinect mic as the voice input. i like my shit loud when i game. i'm going to be "that guy" who constantly has a buncha racket going on in the background.
Right but what we were wondering is what type of interface it is. The new port means your $100+ headset is junk on the new system unless there are adapters.
That's my point. At that point it becomes preference. I mean even with my original 360 I hated the stupid they gave you with the Premium. Now to some one who would rather have that then use a Kinect one, that's again a preference thing and you can't make everyone happy. That's what the accessory market is for. But people are going to be upset because they spent hundreds of dollars over the years on equipment and can't carry it over like it is some big surprise. That is true. I didn't have a problem with it, others were complaining though. I'd prefer a headset so I can separate voice chat and game sound, but that is just personal preference.
I hardly believe at the very least a 3rd party will release an adapter for it. There are already wireless USB headsets that work with the 360. I can't imagine it would be hard to make one for the XO.
And the idea that "oh we have to buy new accessories for a new console omg MS is scamming us" is kind of silly. Since the NES, consoles have been doing this. Want to use that awesome Power Glove or your Power Pad on the SNES? Buy a new one. Same has gone with every console to date.
That's a non-issue because there are similar protections to avoid people from stealing existing product redemption cards from stores. The store activates the card upon purchase.
I was thinking today about the 24 hour only thing and thinking back, I have not ever taken my 360 out of my living room since launch. Not an issue for me and if I did, I can tether from my phone to let it do its checks.
There is barely 119 Million households. Let alone 119 million without "broadband" internet. Don't know where that number is from.Uh huh, but there are about 119million americans with no broadband internet as of Aug 2012.
Who knows in other countries?
I remember when I was a kid I used to take my NES to Grandma's house when we visited. If that were today there would be no internet there to hook up to. Seeing as on Verizon they charge you to use your phone as a hotspot...there's no option.
Except when you buy a high end headset for sometimes $200 or more, you don't want to spend another $200 for the new box.
See...not everyone is using the $20 throwaway Microsoft ones
There will be adapters but is it so wrong to just want to know what interface the port is? What's wrong with digging for detailed info if it's out there?
I was responding to the idea of scanning the UPC on the box. You can just grab the case off the shelf, even an empty one and scan that. Or heck, print one off a picture online and scan it.
That idea would just not work, it's gotta be packed inside at purchase or something. Best way is printed on the disk label IMO.

Paying for Live doesnt seem to be much of a problem to the general audience, only the vocal people online. Last I heard XBL does huge numbers and is way more popular than Sony's free offering
