I don't know all the details yet about this new Xbox, nor have I taken the time to read all of this thread. I also know that nothing is totally set in stone yet.

I think it's worthwhile to consider that probably just about all hardware is set in stone. If they really want to build these for release around November (the rumored time), they'll probably need to start manufacturing the parts around July or August at the latest. Now, as long as an electronic part is a drop-in change, I think that's possible. Although, if anyone hopes that Microsoft will change the GPU to match Sony... don't hold yer breath!

1. If the used game market is destroyed and I have to pay $60 for every game(or whatever the new price for games is for the next generation), I'm out.

The most believable rumor that I've heard is the one where games get deactivated from your console when you sell them to a specific dealer. These dealers have to interact with Microsoft and pay fees. What that really means is that all random used game sales on places like eBay or Craigslist are gone for the X1... unless there's a way that users can deactivate their own games. There has been a rumor that people can do that, but obviously... nothing definitive.

Although, I do wonder if this will make Gamestop not like X1 games as much because they may not get as much money from the games. So, they may pay people less (is that even possible? ) for the games. Gamestop probably would have already ran out of business without their used game sales.

2. If I have to pay a fee to activate a game that I either borrow from a friend, or rented...after already paying the rental company or buying off Amazon, I'm out.

If the games do use a code, then yes, you will have to pay something to play it when you borrow a purchased game. I assume that rentals are not going away, and you will not have to pay anything more.

I love Steam, why? They basically have the same system, but I spend a whole lot less on a per game basis. So if MS wants to drop the prices of new games that you download from Live, run specials all the time, weekend sales like Steam does...I'll deal with numbers 1&2. But they won't. Everything will be the new price for months upon years.

Microsoft does have sales, but it's so damned infrequent and not close to the craziness of Steam, so it's really not that worthwhile. I mean... I have bought some games during Microsoft sales, but in some cases, it was cheaper to buy the game new at retail than their digital copy.

Can we all please agree to simply call this thing the XBone and save us all some typing?

X1!

Has there been any word on if the Xbox One has an Ethernet port?

Yeah, but the XBone is no X-Plane. Do you say " X One" when you speak? XBone rolls off the tongue so much easier.

I don't know all the details yet about this new Xbox, nor have I taken the time to read all of this thread. I also know that nothing is totally set in stone yet. Here's the bottom line for me personally though, any of these things happen and I'm out:

1. If the used game market is destroyed and I have to pay $60 for every game(or whatever the new price for games is for the next generation), I'm out.

2. If I have to pay a fee to activate a game that I either borrow from a friend, or rented...after already paying the rental company or buying off Amazon, I'm out.

Everything will be the new price for months upon years.

That's why I'll be out. If I buy anything I'll buy a PS4, but probably not for a couple years until they get the kinks out.

let's just say, you're out.

Oh I figured as much. I'm not putting up with bullshit, so I'll be voting with my wallet. I don't care how many they sell. No Halo/Gears of War/Fable for me. I'll live somehow.

10% of sale price goes to the used game seller - 90% goes to MS and Game publisher!

You can no longer give away/Share/Lend/borrow your games! nice job MS!

"I still don't understand what right Microsoft or publishers have to impose these kinds of rules on used software. To me it sounds as ridiculous as a used car dealer having to hand over a cut of a sale back to the manufacturer. It's just total BS"

They have every right to do whatever they want with their licenses and IP. Just like you have every right to not give them any money for what they do.

I love that article, all the bad things coming is followed up by a MS statement basically saying the conclusions made are not totally accurate, lol.

No, there are consumer protection laws, and first sale doctrine. They may be able to get away with that here, but I'm betting they run into problems in other countries.

Software is more or less exempt from the first sale doctrine.

Even if it weren't most jurisdictions treat software as being licensed, not sold.

And we have a right to complain about it and make we voice our dissatisfaction to them and everyone else about it and try to get the gaming community favor Sony if choose not to adopt this model.

FYI, in Europe this is blatantly illegal. That is why Valve is in court in Germany right now.
