Well to be fair, we don't know that won't happen. We'll see. I'm still hoping for steam-like sales. I really like DD myself. I haven't bought a PC game in stores in years.

yeah we don't know it, they could come out at e3 and say all games are $40 at launch.

but i'd bet my life savings and my house that isn't going to happen.

My question is why doesn't Sony just do it now. Honestly, they could destroy any or all remaining hype for the X1 just by making a blog post on their official website.

Too soon. Need to wait until its too late for MS to change it at the last minute.

Why do that when in a few days you will have all the media watching your conference?

By also waiting till that day if they do do it, it will kill whatever MS announced at their conference earlier that day and bring all the negative light right back.

Does anyone else think that someone at Microsoft saw that Futurama episode (Overclockwise) in which Mom Corp has a console that uses motion sensing instead of controllers and records everything it sees and hears so that Mom can spy on everyone and said "you know, I bet I can make that work"?

I haven't seen that episode, but man if I saw it I would swear it was a spoof on the current situation and wasn't made before it haha.

Seems like MS is going full on into this used game situation, just like they refuse to give back a normal start button in windows 8.

If this is really how it will be AND Sony doesn't follow this AND MS still intends to sell games at the normal $60 price point, I will have zero intention of buying one; I'll jump to Sony. MS has not so much as hinted that they will lower the price of games, as they must to satisfy buyers, and thus if Sony moves away from this that settles it.

And don't expect a bunch of games from big publishers on the PS4 if it is left up to publishers and Sony excludes it. Or they will just pull an EA and require an online activation code.

I am fairly sure I saw something about Sony saying publishers could do something like this if they so choose. That could be the reason they are not really exploiting this situation.

You are crazy if you don't think games wont come to the PS4 just because it wont do the DRM they want. Publishers NEED to sell it on there, the games are too expensive to make to exclude half your potential sales.

That is the most likely scenario, honestly. Sony won't require it, but most titles will.

I still think the AAA $200M+ budget business model is in trouble; slashing budgets and prices might be inevitable.

Yep, GOGOGO Sony! Unless they do the same stuff (they've already said they won't) of course.

If Sony is smart, they can MASSIVELY Bone the Xbone merely by using Microsoft's blunders against themselves. A total failure of Xbone and Microsoft leaving the gaming market would be probably the happiest event in my lifetime next to raising my kids.

That's a painfully asinine sentiment. I really hope you're not that dumb.

There are few things worse for any industry, let alone the gaming industry, than LESS competition.

I will give my business to Sony if they have a better product and better policies. But they're not my friend. They're not a family member. They don't have my best interests in mind. This isn't the Rebellion vs. The Empire with a happily ever after ending. The last thing anyone should want is less competition.

The biggest thing for me is still paid online. As long as you have to pay for online gaming with the Xbox and it's free on the PS4, I won't even consider buying an Xbox. I know that the cost per year isn't that high. But it adds up over the life of the console.

Furthermore, for people like me who only occasionally play games online, it's significantly more expensive "per use." If I lived and breathed multiplayer, I wouldn't mind so much. But when I only have a desire to hop into an online game a few times a month, that translates to a few bucks every single day that I use it.

So having not used Xbox 360 or Live ever (I had a xbox, but never put it online...get it? Choice. I took that to Afghanistan. Couldn't do that with the new system. Anyway...) if you don't have Live does the 360 still check in with servers? Seems to me if they really wanted to get people going they could require Live service with the Xbone at any time they wanted.

The 360 never has to connect to the internet ever if you choose for it not too and it will still play your games.

I understand that, but I'm curious if on the Xbox One a Live subscription is required? Can you connect to the servers (just for d/l's etc) today w/o a Live sub?

They haven't said but I would imagine that a Live sub is still optional (one would hope, but who knows with all the rest of the decisions made so far lol).

I don't know what the free silver account from live lets you do anymore (been a long time since I've owned an 360). I think it would allow you to download patches, videos, and some demos? I remember a lot of demos being gold only or gold timed release.

Am I the only one who is more concerned with kinect required more than any of the other issues? Always on doesn't seem like a huge issue to me. The used game issues are kind of a bummer, but for some reason the kinect thing seems like MS is just pushing for data mining too hard. Maybe most people aren't concerned about privacy as much as me I guess.

No, it is a big deal, it is just that, it was mostly talked about after the conference because we knew that Kinect had to be connected. So it did get a lot of attention, not nearly as much as it should though. But privacy unfortunately nowadays isn't a big concern for the general public. Look at how willingly they share every piece of info of their lives freely on social media sites for one.

Even if the X1 didn't have this current DRM/connection/no live fee I could never purchase it because of the Kinect having to be connected to the X1 to even work. I live an uneventful and unremarkable life but I'll be damned if I give up my privacy, especially when it is something I paid for and they would profit from (which is one of the big issues I had with Live Gold, you pay for it and yet you are plastered with ads still).

I'll be moving to Sony for this generation.

None of the "features" that the XBone has really affect me too much, but I'm going Sony this time based on principle alone. I don't rent/sell/borrow/lend games at all but the idea that I can't lend, sell, or rent/borrow a game at my own discretion is absurd, so screw you MS.

It's yet to be proven you can on PS4 either, so I'd hold off on your decision.

I'm leaning the same way though. If PS4 doesn't have any of this crap, that's what I'll be getting.

I'm truly surprised that some of you guys believe MS would do something like this in regards to used games and Sony would not. MS can't be that stupid... Right? This has to be publisher driven.

This of course assumes we truly understand what 'this' really means.

If their controller didn't suck balls I would be in the exact same boat as you I think, it has come to that. I don't think I could adapt to those brutal thumbstick locations though. It's X1 or back to pc, for me. This is possibly the most important E3 in history, for these guys to redeem themselves.
