I dunno, I just like the sealed off feeling of headphones and being able to hear things you could never hear on your speakers unless you had them cranked way beyond what people in the house could tolerate.

Audio relies a lot on room acoustics, the amp's DACs and your speakers themselves. Something as simple as the a/c blowing can change what I hear at quiet moments. I can see where your coming from, I personally prefer the full effect of a good home theater setup.

You know that is not happening. Don't kid yourself.

I kind of feel that the ps4 can but the Xbox one couldn't. So we will see tons of games just go for 720p. At least we will get real 720p this time and not like we had before where games were rendered below 720p and scaled.

I don't really feel like the PS4 is going to be that successful at it either. Ultimately, it's up to the developers, you can get native 1080p on both consoles it just depends on how much they want to give up to get there. Less AI? Lesser textures? Poor framerate?

When it comes down to it, they can render in a lower res and just upscale. 99% of the players will never notice and it'll still look fantastic to anyone not used to playing on a PC with jacked up settings.

Well, that's the thing. So many cross platform titles won't take advantage of any of the specific hardware advantages that may be there. I think we will see some 1080p games, but limited to 30fps (thief for example).

Hard drives aren't reliable out to 10 years of always being on. Maybe they just mean as a spy cam.

If you have nothing to add to the conversation and just want to take more stupid ass jabs at the console, do us all a favor and get out of the thread. Don't buy it, nobody gives a [hoot].

Show me the proof it will last 10 years. It's stupid to believe. Old hard drives aren't reliable. Anyone who knows anything about computers, would know that.

That's basically 88k hours on the hard drive. It should be achievable..

Yea, HD's last, it's not like a console drive is constantly running..but then again, it's the up and down that provides the wear and tear..so not sure. Either way, saying it will last 10 years and waranteeing it for 10 years is 2 different things.

I'll believe they last 10 years when they come with a 10 year warranty.

Being able to hear just the game is nice, you can really get into it wearing a nice set of headphones

LMAO...so I'm just going to tell you that I know for a fact companies think like this. They aren't going to come out and say it. This is a very common way companies work these days, and no I'm not just making that up with a tin foil hat.

That being said I agree that unless they have a flaw like they had in the 360, it should be a non issue.

Why would they give extra warranty on parts they themselves didn't design (hard drive)?

I find it hard to believe that you think this. Consider the PR storm this company went through with the RROD, hardware failure on that scale again would be a huge mess up.

The upclock will probably do nothing but it's easier to market 853 vs 800 to people who don't know much.

I think this because I've worked for companies that do exactly this, and know of many more that do it as well. That doesn't mean MS will, because I can't really see the benefit to selling more consoles when you aren't making much profit on them. They want to sell games. They do however get the cheapest manufacturers to make their parts.

At $499, they are making a profit. It may be $25 per unit, but it is there.

Likewise, at $399, Sony is making a profit. It may not be close to $25, but it is something.

Do you have any proof of this? There isn't even a rumor at the unit cost of either that I have seen, and most likely won't be until someone does a tear down.

I'm fully expecting the PS4 to be profitable right from day 1. Educated guesses:

SoC: $100. AMD can make a 7870 chip as sell it in a 7850 card retailing for $150, guesstimating AMD is only selling the chip to board partners for only ~$50. A 7870 with 8 tiny jaguar cores slapped for $100 tops at volumes far above enthusiast video cards is well within the realm of possibility.

GDDR5: 7850 2GB vs 1GB = $10 for extra 1GB, so 8GB = $80, lets be VERY generous and take that x2 for $160 to including the fact Sony is using denser chips.

Everything else: Easily done with $100. Total = $100 + 160 + 100 = $360, below $399 retail price.

Wow, so Sony didn't have to pay to have the console designed, supported, put together and packaged?

I'm not saying I disagree with your assessment entirely, but do we really have to make up numbers to make the PS4 look good in the X1 thread?

You forgot retailer margin, cost of advertising, and cost of returns in there. Oh, and R&D costs as well. You need to pay your employees with something.

When are people going to learn that MSRP - BOM != Profit?
