I think what no one can figure out is why it matters. If an extra inch ir two keeps you from buying a console that you otherwise want, you have a weird set of priorities.

most people dont live in mansions, rather have large living spaces

for most people, size of electronics matter these days more than ever

i appreciate sony put R&D money in the physical design of ps4 because i tell you, PS4 snugs really nicely in my small area.

Why cant the power brick be tucked away behind a tv stand? My 360 power brick sits nicely, and there is plenty of space for another 2 or 3. How is it such a big issue?

Yes the playstation is smaller. Yes the playstation is deemed to be more powerful, but the playstation cant do half the stuff an xbox can. Cant skype whilst in game, or watch tv etc. It is one or the other. Voice commands are exceedingly limited. No motion control either.

No one needs that stuff. I just wanna play great games.

Wii-u tried that shit and look where its at. All stores are meeting x1 demand in surplus except ps4. There are no supply mgmt issues, just demand. We all know PS4 is the winner.

Can you take your gaming on the go? With ps4 you can.

What do you mean take your gaming on the go? Can the vita let you play your games on WiFi if you are miles away? I think the Xbox voice and motion sensing technique is cool, it's just something I would rarely use. Also, the price may be deterring people away from xbox. I mean general customers not parents with nagging kids since they will get one anyway.

I would like to see the results if both consoles were the same price.

Yes. Vita can play ANY ps4 over wifi or cell network. Remote play is also possible if you have vita 3g model or phone with hotspot.

No one gives a hoot about voice. Soon enough Sony will fix all the users demand if necessary via fw upgrades. Heck I read they already filed patents for voice recognition tied up to home devices..

Yeah it so isn't. Remote play is cool but it lags on weak wifi, if I drop below 2 bars it basically doesn't work anymore or feels terrible as it is so delayed. 3g will never ever cut it.

Also your comment about "no-one needs that stuff" is stupid, please don't label me with your opinions, you have no idea what I do or do not need. I have both systems and a vita and I really like the divergence that MS has provided.

It's an issue because it shouldn't be there. my TV doesn't have it, my PC doesn't, my AVR doesn't, basically the only device in 2013 with the brick is an Xbox. It is just an annoyance that I'd rather be without when I do my cleaning routine and have to move things in and out.

Ms still believes they can fly with that shit..lol

They are great at software but suck at hardware designing

I'm not saying this is why MS chose to go with the power brick but keep the following in mind:

By moving the power supply to outside the case, there is less heat generation within the device to deal with which can lead to quieter operation. Also, there is more open space within the console itself which further helps with heat. It is also modular which means service quicker turn around.

Again, I don't know exactly why MS chose to go that route.
MS might be a money grabbing whore of a company, but they won't do stupid things intentionally. Given this is their third console, there has to be a reason.
One can presume it was because either:

A. It helps with heat.

B. It was cheaper to manufacture and saves MS money and thus increases profit.

C. It saves money down the road in service costs by being modular.

D. A bit of both everything.

I bet the answer is D. In truth we'll never really know, but whatever the reason, it probably made sense in whatever context the decision was made in.

I'm pretty sure I know why MS chose that route. They said directly that they designed this system to run constantly for 10 years. That's why it's larger with space for heat, that's why the power brick is outside. They want people running their TV through this box so that means it's going to be on for quite some time. If your TV is on, then your Xbox One will be on.

Yes because Sony bought the developer outright. In the Titanfall deal, the developer, that is the people actually making the game, had no say until the announcement. I think the guys working on the title deserve a little more respect than that myself.

So why exactly are you bashing Microsoft then? EA is the one who made the exclusivity deal, why not blame them? EA is the one who "disrespected" them in your scenario, not Microsoft. Besides that, Respawn is the one who signed the publishing deal that they did, if anyone's at fault, it's them. If they didn't want to give up that control, then they shouldn't have. I don't feel bad for them.

To get your game recognized you need a big money publisher for marketing. That's the biggest problem I see facing the industry. It's gotten so big that it hurts itself in some ways.

This is why I hope beyond hope that there is a major standout hit from the self publish option. The industry needs that kind of a thing. A game that can sell as well as some of the big budget titles but is not bound by publisher deals. I think it'll really give some of these guys a much needed kick in the ass if one of their major games is overshadowed one week by a group of dedicated people who published their own game on PSN and XBL. I don't know if it can be done but if it does and the game blows up via word of mouth and such, it will be a big win IMO.

This choice of words downplays the simple, objective reality. It is more powerful, substantially so. You said it doesn't have motion control. It does via the controllers, and also with the eye--but in practice since most people won't have the eye you're right if arguing from that perspective. Xbox has the kinect and the ps4 doesn't have a similarly ubiquitous eye.

I won't say never, but it seems a difficult nut to crack given how much of the big boys' budgets are spent on marketing alone. Casual or barely gamers need to see commercials on TV to encourage them to buy a game.

The Xbox One is slightly bigger than my DirectTV DVR. It's by no means the beast people are making it out to be. The power brick can be safely tucked in behind the unit or behind your cabinet out of sight. You will never mess with it once it is setup. The only thing I dislike about the X1 is the size of the kinect cabling, I'd prefer it to be a little thinner and less bulky.

That being said these trade offs give you a machine that is substantially quieter than the PS4. I have one and it is loud, not as loud as the PS3, but it still revs up like a jet engine after heavy usage. It also gets super hot. For me, quietness is something I value way more than aesthetics and I'll live with the bulkier package.

This whole argument is overblown. I don't know a single soul who couldn't fit the X1 into their cabinet, and if you can't it's time for a new cabinet IMHO.

Is your ps4 in an entertainment center ? I only hear mine spin up when I'm loading a game. Mines in the open though. It should not be as loud as you describe. I saw a video earlier who had one that sounded like a small vacuum. It should not be like that.

My PS4 is not hot at all...I've checked it with an IR gun and it's cooler than my PC at idle when it's been running a game for 5 hours.

Not true for me. My PS4 never overheats even after 14+ hrs of gameplay and I don't hear the fan at all just the Disc when it spins up

Speaking of the disk drive...I wonder what model of Blu-Ray drive they use in the PS4 cause it's very loud when spinning up.
