cable companies will never let someone else control the way you watch their TV.

I'm really confused as to why you think that. TiVo has been around for over a decade, and it has done EXACTLY THAT. As another example, I use a Ceton InfiniTV 6 ETH on my home network that allows me to stream up to six channels to any PC on my network. Any one of my WMC machines can use up to four at a time (WMC limitation).

Also, the X1 is completely incapable of being a DVR unless you're on an IPTV-based service. The reason is that it lacks a QAM tuner, but to be fair, Microsoft could add support for external tuners via adding Media Center Extender capability back or selling a dedicated QAM tuner add-on -- probably a USB unit like the Ceton InfiniTV 4 USB. I'm pretty sure the XBOX 360 can also use my Ceton InfiniTV 6 ETH via its Media Center Extender capability.

Cable companies have been fighting the cable card and Tivo for over a decade now. I was just having a conversation with my dad about getting a tuner card and he was telling me that he had thought of that but the Comcast center near him refuses to give him a card even though they are required by law to offer it.

The existence of two options that the cable companies hate does not mean they are open to even more limited control of content delivery.

Exactly, the Xbox One is just a glorified remote but not because they didn't want to do more, cable companies will never let someone else control the way you watch their TV.

It's a glorified remote that has more non-indie games on it thant he ps4 currently.

Seriously? What line of BS are they feeding him to keep him from getting one? ...and you're absolutely right as the FCC mandates that users are supposed to be able to install the CableCards manually.

I have Comcast as well, and all I did was walk in to the service center, ask for a CableCard, and they gave me one. Now, I had a hell of a time getting it all working as it took about six service representatives to actually get it setup in the system. Fortunately, when I swapped from the internal 4-tuner card to the external 6-tuner device, it was significantly easier as the first rep got it right.

Has anyone pulled their tv or thought about pulling their tv from their Xbox? I am getting tired of the audio sync issues and am beginning to think I would be better off just running it straight from my DVR to my tv.

not me, but i still have yet to even hook my tv up to it nor do i plan on it lol. part of it could be because i don't watch much tv in my theater, mainly just games and movies, but when it's tv it is football or sports 95% of the time so it's not like i'm constantly channel surfing.

audio sync issues and picture issues that i'm hearing about would probably steer me of it anyways though.

I think the bigger the city the more likely they are to deal with blow back because I know of at least 4 people that have had them 1 for Tivo and the other 3 for PC's. But they gave him some BS about them not supporting it on the network in the area. I told him to make a big fuss about it, but he wasn't ever really that interested. He seems to be emotionally connected to his single feed, IR system that took 3 year before it would work correctly on regular basis.

The point being that they tried to kill cable cards before they even got started. They with the Studio's battled Tivo for nearly a decade before they gave in and started offering their own DVR's. Which lead to a second major fight against cable cards (disabling features that should still work). The only reason they offer them and support them at all is because the FCC forced them to. Technology wise none of this should be an issue and specially for connections like Cable, they could have moved over to IPTV with 2-3 times the bandwidth 5-8 years ago easily.

The biggest issue is the Studio's really. If Comcast offered IPTV packages they would have problems with A.) Redoing the deals with all of the providors. B.) having the customer by packages directly from the Providers. Why would ABC want to take a 50% cut on the ABC IPTV package when they can make twice that by offering it themselves.

I pulled it even though we didn't have any sync issues. Other members of the household were having too many issues using it.

I still have mine hooked up. First time I've heard that there are audio sync issues. How does this problem manifest itself?

I haven't experience any sync problems in anything other than Path of Exile lately. I use both the "Play To" and the TV input on my Xbox One with no problems.

The audio just won't line up with the tv. It will be off a bit. Not enough to be a huge deal for some, but it is starting to bug me.

Do you have the beta Surround option turned on possibly? I know that was known to have some issues. I don't have a surround system, so I haven't used it. I should probably get one.

Are you also using any kind of receiver other than the direct cable box feed? That might introduce some stuff as well.

I don't have the surround on, because I just have a sound bar with sub. I have my direct tv ran to my xbox, then xbox to tv. I use my sound bar all the time, but even when I just us my tv speakers, it is off.

Hmm, that is strange. I haven't had a problem. I have a Comcast box though. Maybe something is up with the DirecTV box? I don't know. =(

The only complaints I can find via Google (and I can't click on any of the links I'm sure), are for Blu-Ray at 24hz having issues with audio sync. Hmm.

Just about every aspect of the X1 is "beta" right now. One need only look at the support forums to get an idea of just how many issues there are.

It's hard for me to recommend this to anyone who is expecting to replace all their media devices. I'm not really sure how much confidence I have in the XBOX team to actually fix these issues. It seems they have definitely bitten off a bit more than they can chew.

I'd say it's hard to recommend any console in its first year. Few good games not on previous gen consoles, bugs, missing features, high price, no deals, etc...

I have DirecTV and have yet to have any audio sync issues... But if I did, I'd eliminate the pass thru immediately. I know it doesn't bother some, but I can't stand sync problems.

Looking at support forums to "get an idea" is not an accurate measurement. All you see are the negatives, and you obviously don't hear from the vast majority who aren't having problems.

I'm not having problems with my xbox 1, I wish they would polish up the party system, but other than that it's working just fine for me

And now he's heard from someone who likes it

Once I plugged my sound bar directly into the xbox instead of my tv, it seemed to fix it. But that means I don't have my sound bar for the ps3 anymore, and since I am playing that more than the xbox one right now, I may have to just pull it like I had planned on doing.
