yeah it's kinda dumb though. its a registration app that submits you, and then they pick pepole from the registrations. so i'm not guaranteed it.

it also says that i won't be able to party up with anyone who doesn't have the update until everyone gets it in march. but that's not a big deal to me since i hardly party up, except maybe when titanfall comes out.

but they did also say that you can invite anyone once you are in. so i'll see if i get in or not.

Just got mine as well.

I saw that it is only going to be around 15.8 gbs, which seems really small.

The beta was right around 5gb right? Three times that seems reasonable.

For MP only? Not even close to being small.
Yeah I thought about that shortly after I typed it. I even made a joke about it in another forum, where people would have killed for a multiplayer game with 15 gbs of data a year ago, but now we are conditioned to think we need 35-40 gigs on our games. I can't wait for TF. I am not selling games this generation, and since they are letting you preload it, this may be one of the first day one digital games I do this generation.

It's so nice not having to think about disks at all.

On a different note, does anyone know how big the Road America download was for Forza 5? It auto did it and I didn't get a chance to look. I'm curious since Turn10 talked up the amount of data it took to build each track.

A side note to your side note, will this track be put into the career mode in circuits that you haven't completed, or is it only for free races and online?

http://www.polygon.com/2014/2/21/5434054/xbox-one-pre-load-titanfall-before-march-11-launch

Update: Microsoft says Titanfall's pre-load option was posted in error and it doesn't plan to allow Xbox One owners to download the game in advance of launch. A Microsoft spokesperson offered the following comment to Polygon:

"We believe in digital distribution, and are proud to give gamers a variety of ways to purchase and experience their games. However, pre-purchase and pre-download for Titanfall for Xbox One will not be available from Xbox Store. We'll continue to strike a balance between digital distribution and its benefits, while supporting physical games purchase through our retail partners."

"The pre-purchase offer page was posted in error. We apologize for any confusion."

I agree. Digital downloads is def the way to go. Just don't sell them for $59.99, make them $49.99 and everyone will be all over it. Make it worth it.

I wish MS would take the hard stance already and say "F*ck physical discs and all the troglodytes that want them! DD is the way of the future and we are going to make it as convenient as possible and give incentives."

Valve did this and they are better off for it. And it wasn't because of Steam sales. Those started in 2009, years after Steam had already taken over.

You realize that if Microsoft said 'F*ck physical discs and the troglodytes that want them!' they'd instantly lose this generation, right?

A huge % of their customer base doesn't have a sufficient internet connection to DD games, and it's getting worse instead of better (net neutrality gutted, more caps every year, mergers = less competition, higher price per mbit).

Making DD affordable and logical would go a LONG way towards helping that area though.

They don't have to insult or cut off their customers to do so, all they have to do is price the DD at a lower level than physical. After all, you get no disc, no manual, no case, there is no manufacturing cost, yadda yadda. To price them at the same level (or sometimes HIGHER?) than physical is insulting in itself.

I really wish people would stop with the high horse 'f*ck the troglodytes who want physical discs' crap. It only makes you look like a douche. Not everybody has that option. Some people just like having them.

I'm one of the ones that likes having the disc available. There are games like bf3 and titanfall that if I buy, will probably just download from origin. But many others I prefer on disc.

The internet business blows. Comcast is taking over slowly, prices are increasing, there is almost no competition except Fios and that isn't available everywhere.

I for one am tired of calling Comcast every 6 months and going from 50mb to 25mb down to lower my bill or threatining to cancel to keep a fair price for internet and tv as a bundle. Mainly because in my area there is no competition except dsl...ain't no body got time for that.

Exactly this. Digital costs them less and they make more money from it but still expect $60. Plus this stance would eliminate every game collector as a customerimmediately. there are people who collect games and have a huge library of games. There are also people who want the assurance that in 10 years they can put the disk on and play the game.

To make digital work for everyone we need a national fiber network. At least to all the major metro areas. Not this "Google will hand pick the cities" bullshit. I know it isn't cheap and I know comcrap will cry like a baby but someone needs to tell the telco and cable companies to take a jump off the bridge or join the wave and get a piece of the action and stop taking their bribes to keep them a monopoly. It makes me sick.

Until you can get fiber you won't be streaming uncompressed 4k with the lossless audio and a lot of people will be stuck with unaffordable cable or crap DSL.

Something has to be done about Comcast and all their mergers. Sooner or later I expect they will screw up. It's just a matter of time.

I have friends overseas who get decent internet speeds, at times better than what I get and I'm not talking third world countries either. They pay a fraction of what we pay for cable or Fios. Because it's not a huge monopoly over there.

If digital games are available for $50 or $40 bucks accordingly there would be more sales for sure. But if I'm going to pay 60+ tax for 2 games a month, assuming we get great games starting in March, I'd rather drive to the store and have a physical copy in my possession.

I would prefer all digital but you can almost always catch the discs on sale. I'm not paying more for less.

Amazon put ps4 and xb1 games on sale for $50 like a month or less after release. Target did b2g1 at launch. These deals are untouchable by digital games. Even steam doesn't have the same type of sales for brand new releases. Sure steam gives a bundle of somewhat older titles or a deal on some title. You couldn't get a free game when you bought two the same week the games came out.

Yup and randomly Amazon gives you discount codes on certain games. They've given me a $20 off code for CoD Ghosts and a $20 off code for Need for Speed Rivals for the new systems.

Amazon is great with those discounts and also with customer support. I once ordered an old game, falcon 4.0 I think, and it was missing another game it was suppose to come with. Amazon let me keep it and gave me $20 dollar credit too.

The sooner they lower prices on digital games, the better they will do in sales.

Buy 2 Get 1 Free is the equivalent of $40 per game. GMG/Steam often do pre-order deals ranging from 10%-30% of games ON TOP of whatever accessory games they are offering.

Copy of Thief for $36, Bioshock: Inf + 4month old Xcom +2 more games + $10 Cash back for $60.

I find it the other way around, outside of used sales, it is getting harder and harder to find console games on sale.

Yeah, I'm not a huge fan of buying digital on consoles because I'd rather sell some games when I reach the end of a console's life span (note: release of next-gen). I usually just keep the games that I care about, or if I ended up getting them for super cheap on Steam, I'll just sell the console versions.

In regard to Thief on the PC, if you're a savvy, cheap arse, you'd just buy an AMD ticket off eBay for ~$25. It comes with four games which can include Thief and Saints Row 4.

Agreed. It's also kind of a chicken and egg for 20-something gamers who don't make a heap of money. I know a bunch, and many skip home internet entirely because their cell phone bills are rough, but they still like to game. The ones who do have home internet have cheapo internet because the faster internet is either not available, or balls expensive.

Before I moved I had 85/35 FIOS (package was supposed to be 75mbit, but for whatever reason was faster than advertised! It was supposed to be $100+/mo, but I got a deal and was getting it for $80/mo somehow. But FIOS is only in a few places in this metro area.

So now that I've moved and have stupid cable, I can pay out the butt for 35mbit, or keep paying ~$40/mo for "15/1". And although I've called the cable company a half dozen times, they never fix it, I actually get between 2 and 6mbit on average. My alternative? 'Uverse' that's 1.5/768k. Yeah. It's garbage.

Anyway, back to the gaming thing, if digital downloads started to get more exciting on consoles, then more customers would be excited about demanding more internet speed. I remember before the economic downturn, it seemed like every year there were big gains in people getting cable, fios, etc, of better and better speeds. But flash forward to now, and the big guys seem to only want to run garbage Cable/DSL out to new developments. Over in Starwood, a place littered with 5-20 million dollar homes, the only thing available is Cable, max speed about 10mbit.

The advantage to discs is selling them. Right now I have a bunch of ps3 games I don't need but unfortunately they are not worth much at gamestop and they take up room in my book case.
