I thought it was a great speech and as I always I believe him. I think he's done great so far. He promised to bring the troops home - it's in work. The economy is coming back. I don't know what all the hate is about.

LOL - Watching MSNBC and they have Democratic house members talking about the use of reconciliation to pass after the house votes on the senate bill.

The Democrats still don't get it. This senator is going on and on about how the people really do want the bill.

Senator Sherrod Brown thinks that the election in MA resulted the way it did because they didn't pass anything not in-spite of the fact that the Democrats are cramming this down Americans throat.

The economy is coming back? Since when? Last time I checked, we were at 10% unemployment. Thats almost double Bush's average.

Just out of curiosity I asked several people at work if they had to pick a theme song for Obamas state of the Union speech , what would it be?

Some suggestions:
Helter Skelter
Ring of fire
Highway to Hell
I'm leaning more toward Bridge over troubled waters.
What would yours be?

How exactly are they trying to cram anything down our throats?

it's a little "crammy" to try and force through legislation that only 39% of the public is in favor of.

Ah yes, the public opinion polls Republicans consistently use as a guide for legislation when they're on their side.

Back when the polls showed public support, crickets.

If the bill is changed and shows public support, the same Republicans willl be here posting attacks on the Republican Senators for not voting according to the poll, cramming their views on us, right?

The House votes and passes the Senate version.
Senate uses reconciliation to modify "budgetary" issues that are not palatable to the House such as exempting Unions health care plans (the passed Senate version did not have this).

It is actually quite simple yet it would be political suicide. The biggest problem is that once it is passed, there is almost no practical way to roll it back.

(I don't know how any Democrat can defend exemption Unions from health care tax)

THe republican rebuttal was nothing less than some Fox News-like staged joke.

People... Do you REALLY want those losers back in power?
Their only rebuttal was the same-o "big gov bad... do nothing good".
And what was with that nutcase picked for the rebuttal? Some self appointed president un-elect. Zombie audience and all?
I swear I could see the attached puppet strings on some of those people in the audience behind the guy. The bobble head group.

The only goal of republicans in congress is to finish destroying what is left
of the middle class. And if they get their chance, that is exactly what they will do.
They would prefer to call government bad, and allow healthcare providers take every
US citizen to the cleaners, clean them out, take every dollar left in your pocket,
and finish off the few that still own a home with foreclosures.

Vote republicans back in, and watch the country self implode.
The Mayan calendar ending in 2012 was not foretelling some futuristic celestial destruction, but probably ends with predicting when society totally loses its touch with reality and republicans regain control. That would bring any calendar to a close.

It's the residual for 8 years of the previous President and his Wingnut supporters being mocked mercilessly.

Look everybody knows the Republicans aren't the answer it's that people are so damn disappointed the Obama and the Dems don't seem to be any better than the Republicans.

I don't think that most people really understand what's in the health care legislation... everything they "know" about the bill came from those attack ads paid for the health insurance companies, telling everyone how much their taxes are going to go up because of it.

And the Democrats are no different in the ultimate result, just the method of getting there.

Democrats and Republicans are two sides of the same coin, and it is amazing to me that most people can't see that.

I believe the public is angry and frustrated because they don't feel their interests are being represented in Washington. Even thought we sent a clear message in the congressional elections in 2006 and again in the presidential election in 2008, it appears not much has changed and its business as usual. One year into the Dems supermajority we are still held hostage by 40 now 41 percent of the representation, people are becoming disillusioned with the political system and are evermore convinced that Washington is controlled by corporate and big money special interest groups regardless of who we elect and send to Washington. We are afraid that the election process has just become a "feel good" exercize for the American people and that the real power and representation has already been sold before we even vote.

"This country was bought, sold and paid for a long time ago." - George Carlin 1996.

In an age of tyranny and empire, only the court jester was allowed to speak the truth.

Carlin was smart and ahead of the curve. If everyday americans are catching up to the reality, we are so far fucked right now that it is (almost) hopeless.

Is there a website anywhere that has logged the dozens of lofty goals Obama spoke about last night? I lost count. There were so many...

Almost?

Do a poll on how many of us here in P&N are willing to let others who disagree with us live as they see fit. I'd vote yes, the majority would vote no if my solution for healthcare is any indication. People aren't looking for hope, they want tyranny against their enemy on the other side of the isle.
