Absolutely true. He had an "oh shit" moment when Brown won. Complete reversal of his message. It went from "we'll pass healthcare before the state of the union so we can tell you how great we are" to "Oh, you people care about jobs and the economy? Really? We've got this great free healthcare for you though?"

Completely changed the message and I agree with how disjointed and all over the place the speech was he was throwing crap out there to see what stuck. He was in pure campaign mode and not state of the union. The Scott heard around the world, we're taking this country back!

Wow this thread is so full of content. I've lurked this site for several years and only recently started posting.

It appears that BDS is really more like a rash than ODS which is more serious like herpes.

I fully expected that the biggest thing that the righties would be bithching about was that President Obama is going to let the Bush tax cuts expire. Crickets.

Instead it's nothing but adhominum bullshit, with that unsavory smell of that R word that we know is only in the imagination of us lefties.

You must not have been around when the Forum was having threads derailed continuously with BDS postings...heck, we even had (or have? I've not seen it around much, wonder why???) a Macro that just totally F'd up threads left and left with insane BDS out of context linking.

The acronymn 'BDS' even made the *** filter somehow at one point, who knows how that happened...

The ODS now is certainly not as strong overall as the BDS was in the past 2-3 years, no where close.

The economy is coming back? Since when? Last time I checked, we were at 10% unemployment. Thats almost double Bush's average.

The last time I checked last year my 401k was up 39 percent and my raise had grown over $20k. I'm not bitching. Granted, some people are having a difficult time but not my fault they don't have skills above the people they are actually hiring.

The majority of people understand Obama took a position NOBODY could have made progress with in the first year. I'm giving him time to actually work some shit out. Dubya fuck ups were so massive though it's probably going to be impossible. Anyone who honestly thinks Obama is a worse POTUS than George was needs to check themselves into a mental hospital ASAP.

I didn't hear what I wanted to hear exactly, but it wasn't close to as bad as a few people on here are making it out to be. Buncha butt hurt Republicans on here is all I can figure.

I cannot BELIEVE that so many people can not understand the difference between "the economy is turning around" and "the economy is good". No one is saying the economy is good, what they mean when they are saying "the economy is turning around" is that the RATE OF GROWTH of the economy is positive. This means nothing about the actual state of unemployment, etc.

Republicans keep citing the fact that unemployment is 10% in order to claim that the stimulus package isn't working, and even that the economy isn't turning around. But economists aren't interested in what the unemployment rate is, they are interested in what it is doing. If unemployment is shrinking by .5% that is much better than growing by 5%. Changes in the economy don't happen overnight so the only way we can really gauge it's progress is by these growth numbers... and this quarter was the first promising growth for the economy in a while. Cross your fingers

In the mean time, I wish people would have the common sense to realize they are not an economist. The economy is not a big bus that President Obama is driving, it is a complex system that no one fully understands, and I do not claim to be someone who does.

Nothing he can do there, it's not like he's a dude who was hired as a new CEO for a company that was worth billions and has a product that sold itself. Anyone who disapproves that strongly of him is either racist or stupid. No reasonable person should actually have expected him to be able to make progress his first year in office. He's dealing with 8 years of George's fuck ups. It would take Jesus longer than a year to clean up the mess that Dubya left behind.

With that said, he might not be a super great president, but he's nowhere near as bad as our previous. And much better than that old fuck who was running against him. He hasn't done anything I particularly love, but at the same time I don't particularly hate anything he's done. I do however respect him for running for POTUS even after watching bush fuck up the country for 8 years. And I know he can't possibly reach the level of fail Bush Jr did.

I have no intention of watching and don't much care what he says. This is no reflection on him because I have never watched a SoTU address - ever. They're pretty meaningless IMO.

Are you by any chance a federal worker? That would certainly explain the large pay increase. And for you information, unemployment is affecting people of all skill levels: laborers, engineers, engineering managers, plant managers. Until companies have reason to believe that they won't get royally buggered by the .gov, they're going to be reluctant to turn on the hiring spigot.
