You don't eat meat?

Perhaps you are being sarcastic, but if you are not; There is a big difference between hunting for food and hunting for sport.

I'm usually about as liberal as they come, and I'm a biologist, but the anti-hunting/anti-outdoorsmen/women sentiments in this thread are absurd.

Hunters have enacted as many if not more conservation projects in this country than any other segment of the population. Hunters are typically the only laypeople that have any understanding of ecology. Humans are hunters, it's in our genes, it's the primary reason we're not still mucking about on our knuckles. Unless they're hunting animals which are unlawful to hunt (ie. endangered/threatened species), they're not doing anything wrong.

As was pointed out early in the thread, the issue here isn't that someone shot a polar/grizzly hybrid, it's that climate change is apparently pushing these two species into contact more often than has been observed in the past. But I'm sure all of you who condemn hunting drive hybrid cars.

The ice dwelling Polar Bear will merge back into the Grizzly population as the Northern icecap shrinks. Or go extinct, they are losing their habitat.

i agree. i have been hunting for years. Everything i shoot i eat. I have seen guys take down something and take its rack and leave the meat there. that pisses me off.

I am against sport hunting. there is no reason to kill something for the fun of it.

Bear is edible and tastes quite good. Where does it say the bear wasn't butchered and eaten?

Bear Meat Loaf
2 lb ground meat
1/2 cup milk
2 eggs
salt and pepper to taste
1/4 tsp. thyme
1/4 tsp. oregano
3/4 cup tomato sauce
1 cup onion, minced
1 1/2 tsp. dry mustard
1 cup bread crumbs
1/2 green pepper, finely chopped,
I also add 1 small can of mushrooms or fresh mushrooms.
Bake at 350 until done (about an hour).
When it looks close to being done, maybe 15 minutes,
I spread either BBQ sauce or ketchup over the top.

BS...there are many many reasons to hunt, other than food. Most hunters that go take a deer and justify it with "we eat what we kill" are full of crap anyways. Sure it gets eaten but to say you shot it to feed your family is a far stretch. Just the cost of a good rifle would be a crapload of meat for the family at the local walmart supercenter. You hunt for sport, and the fantastic meal the next day is a side note. Hence keeping the rack after the dressing the carcass.

Back to reasons to kill stuff for sport:

http://edition.cnn.com/2006/US/04/16/mt.lion.attack.ap/

I'm all for hunting, it is a great sport, but I realize that I don't kill something because I'm hungry. Not eating something you kill is a waste for sure but it's not some kind of unforgivable act.

As for the bear in question....there are more out there. He didn't kill the only one.

As for the anti-hunting folks....go eat a granola bar and shut your mouth.

The big deal is the Bear should at least have a gun and get some shots off at the idiot hunters that should be shot down.

No, give the man a bow and arrow and knife only. Now its equal. He might kill the bear if he uses his brain, opposable thumbs, and tools (ie, what makes him a man), and the bear will certainly kill him if it gets close enough to use what makes it a bear (big fvcking fangs, claws, and thousands of pounds of muscle).

If the man wins, he has a big ridiculous disgusting trophy for his wall to prove how good he as at killing things just for fun. If the bear wins, he gets to eat this week.

Having trouble understanding the OP's gripe about the USA.

Is the OP claiming that Canadians don't hunt? Because the bear was killed in Canada and therefore it appears this legal hunt was performed courtesy of Canada.

wouldn't "using his brain" mean using a gun? i've yet to see a bear invent a gun, therefore the ability to think it up is certainly a legitamite human advantage. Your use of "equal" is bullshit - there's no equality in nature, and handicapping one side doesn't create it. Get over yourself - there's no compassion in the animal world, and, quite frankly, humans are on top of the food chain for a reason. To the victor go the spoils.

Excuse me ma'am, but that post was a joke. Please unwad your panties now. I had no idea you felt so strongly about guns and bears. Do you need a kleenex?

I think maybe you should try to get over yourself.
