Reminds me a lot of Trump, actually. When his supporters talk about how great things were when he was president they conveniently leave out 2020 or pretend someone else was president during it. Trump was fine (being very generous here) until a crisis that required him to actually do the job happened. He was immediately overwhelmed and then switched to blaming everyone else for his failures, as he always does.
Well, they already talk about how Trump was stabbed in the back by the "deep state". They're walking their way through a modern Mein Kampf grievance process for their abject failures.

Yep - when good things happen it's due to the enlightened majesty of Trump. When bad things happen it's because someone was mean to Trump.

The more I think about this guy the more amazing his statement is. Like... Hitler led to the literal destruction of his entire country. It's one of the few instances in modern history of the debellation of a state. There are few examples of a more ruinous tenure as head of state than that.

It all just reminds me that I was going to say the thread title is incomplete. Needs the full Dick Tuck quote.

I thought we hated big pharma for ripping off the public? Or is this one of those deals where we hate them but enjoy profiting off their greed? I have no issue with that, just seeking clarification.

I think lots of people dislike big pharma but I struggle to understand how RFK as HHS secretary would do anything to fix the things people don't like about it.

For example I am very happy that big pharma developed COVID vaccines, something RFK would have liked to slow or stop entirely. I think that's bad.

This is another reason why you don't put sociopathic criminals in charge of the government, btw. A lot of people who voted for Trump like you are about to get a very rude awakening.

What's with the "we" there? What group are you claiming membership of?

Personally I don't have a particular animus against "big pharma", over-and-above the extent to which I have doubts about capitalism in general. The habit of banging on in particular about "big pharma" is something I associate with one political strand, one that has always been a bit ambiguous as to whether it's on the right or left (more-or-less the same types who buy 'organic' groceries). The emphasis on the "big" seems to give the game away - that it's really about the concerns of small businessmen and petite-bourgeois types.

Also it always brings to mind this xkcd cartoon

RFK jr seems to be part of that.

What is somewhat funny is that Trump and RFK are most likely to supercharge the things people don't like about big pharma (high prices, market capture, etc.) while directly working to fight the parts they do like (life saving medicine).

Majorly reduce their marketing, cough and lobbying and I'm fine with how innovated our pharma is. Probably won't make it in my lifetime, but cancer isn't going to be the death sentence people think in the future.

This is one of those deals, like all the others, that require nuance and not shortsighted thinking and being able to see things in anything other than black and white terms.

In other words, it’s too complicated for a simpleton like you to understand. I look forward to four years of you hand waiving the negative results from the consequences of a Trump presidency.

Btw, have you come up with what a successful Trump presidency looks like? No? lol I didn’t think so.

Big Pharma is a major advertiser on Fox News as well a media in general. Hope they are happy.

How do we explain voting for Hitler? I know it can't be because people have an unconscious death wish because they don't know they hate themselves but show all the evidence any thinking person would need as evidence that's exactly what they are doing. What is grievance but the feeling you have been unfairly fucked and what greater fucking can you imagine than being robbed as children of self respect, forced to live a life in a concentration camp and pretend all the time that you worship the people who put you there. Trump voters have capitulated, gone over to the dark side, bought into the notion that safety lies on the side of the authoritarians who put you into hell. And you get a free ticket out. All that bottled up hatred and seething resentment is given a free pass. You are permitted to direct all that anger at those who still hold on to some notion of justice.

Every insult, every trial, every unpleasant experience, all the stresses and fears produced by our capitalistic competitive dog eat dog live can be freely laid at the feet of the other, those who some how managed as children not to completely sell out.

You get to do to them what was done to you, guilt free mind you, because you bought into the sickness of whatever horse shit your fascist parents told you was the one and only truth.

Now what fool would believe any of that? What me, this wondrous entitled human being, I hate myself, ha ha ha ha. You are the sick one, not me.

A book just presented itself to memory, an interesting one in my opinion:

I think people are more worried about not having the return of easily prevented diseases right now.
Polio isn't fun!

Spent a few minutes this morning looking over my vaccine records to see if there was anything I missed.

Wish they'd let people under 50 have the damn shingles vaccine because people under that age definitely can get it.

That's weird. I assumed that you'd be able to get what you liked in the US if you paid for it!
You can get a private vaccination against shingles here at any age. The free NHS one is for clinically at risk I think.

I had shingles in my early 30's and I was offered the vaccine right when it came out. But I would have had to pay, so I still haven't gotten it yet, it may be free now I'm not sure.

Though if you say you have a weak immune system you can get it under 50. It was not studied in younger people IIRC so they mostly stick to the age restriction. It's not in short supply or anything.

More than willing to pay for it myself. Seen other people go through it and no thank you please.
