Because I get those FPS dips into the 20s when I play games at all max settings at 1920x1200... That's why I get new video cards.

could be your CPU. but yeah, this time we are seeing 200% gains. G80-G200 did not do 200%. R600-700 did not. R520-R600 was humiliating...

Just going to throw this in here:

I'm actually interested in PC gaming now more than ever, mostly because of the new crossover with consoles. Many of my favorite series (especially Japanese games) are now heading to PC, giving me much less of a reason to buy games for my consoles, when I can get them looking and running better with more options on a PC.

Only 2000 Fps? I prefer more like 3000 Fps just to be smooth lol

Ever tried playing GTA: San andreas with frame limiter off ??
Believe me anything above 150 fps and it starts to suck !!

Pfft, try playing Pac Man at 187000 frames a second. You actually travel back in time due to a frame rate that's faster than light.

Already said my piece here, but just to point a thing out: a HD4870 was most definitely twice as fast as a HD3870 - especially when you turn on AA (R600->R700). The others you're right (especially the last part ).

If PC gaming doesn't fizzle out altogether; the point of new cards is never ending because 99% of games are no where near "life-like". As this progresses we'll get increments in visuals and new hardware to run it.

The gaming industry is still young and started out pretty rough. There's still tons of room for growth;

Well, when you consider how bad the R600 was, going to a R700 card and getting 2x the performance just isn't that hard

 Have to agree with that. In a couple of months you will not be asking this, you'll be asking more performance from ATI and Nvida. New games (DX 11) are coming...

I think some people here will have fun with Crossfire 5870s. God bless your large wallets. But even for 1920x1200, most people can be happy with 4890 / GTX 275 performance as long as they don't have to have the absolute highest settings in Crysis or any unoptimized game.

Good thing I'm "only" using 1920x1200, so a 4890 is plenty for just about anything. And I disagree with whoever says smaller pixel pitch on a smaller screen is better. I'm using a 27" screen with relatively larger pixel pitch, and still I would never want to use anything smaller. The immersion factor is definitely better with a larger screen, not sharper pixels on a smaller screen.

Seriously, no one's mentioned Eyefinity yet? It's completely popped open the high end; now you can get graphics at insane resolutions.

I highly doubt a large % of gamers, who want to get a great price/performance from the actual card, are going to go out and buy 8 panels.

See http://forums.anandtech.com/me...=2334105&enterthread=y
(about 3 threads down from this one when I posted).

The reason eyeinfinity exists is specifically because what many of the previous posters have been saying - why bother upgrading when my 48?? can do full hd gaming without breaking a sweat. Ati now have to convince us we need 3 displays, which will obviously require the more powerful 58?? to drive them.

Which is why they need to push devs to create graphically demanding pc exclusives.

the problem is that the "graphically demanding" games are typically more expensive to make, so if they cut themselves out of 80% of the gaming market then they are slashing their own wrists.

I'd like to see companies that actually have a passion for what they do instead of making every game with the Unreal Engine 3. If companies would make a PC ONLY game that is great in graphics, game play, and story they obviously would have a winner but instead they just release sequels because they are proven franchises.
