<< "If you're gonna' play................you better be ready to pay".................... Hope it was worth it!

Something similiar happened to a friend of mine. Unlike you, he was older and realized he screwed up and didn't deserve any of it back. He never got it back.

You will never see any piece of equipment the cops took ever again. Consider it G-O-N-E.

1. You are 16...you kept everything on your system HD...hiding it in a subsubfolder won't hide squat.

2. If you're gonna do this kind of stuff, keep it on a separate HD, that is not normally installed on your PC...hide the HD somewhere FAR away from the PC itself..only plug it in when doing whatever it is you do. This way, when they snatch your PC, they don't get anything. That said.....

3. You were dumb enough to get caught. [ralphvoice]Ha-Ha![/ralphvoice] The DA will make an example out of you, and you deserve it, to teach you a lesson and to show the other young punks what will happen if they follow in your footsteps.

4. You will need a lawyer. NOT the state-appointed one, else you're gonna get screwed.

5. WITH your own lawyer, you will get a fine (prolly in the neighborhood of $1K) and so much community service that you won't have a weekend for the next year or so. Consider yourself lucky.

6. WITH your own lawyer, you will get no jail time. You are a minor. Waitaminute, you're not a Juvie Offender, are you? I hope for your sake this is your first real run-in with The Law...if not, you may be graduating HS a year or so late.....

You are about to learn about the way the world works, young man. You'll be a better adult for learning your lesson now.

He is a minor and can probably use his state's version of the youthful offender status. That said he is looking at a year or probation, some pretty decent fines and will never get his computer back. I imagine you will not be allowed to use a computer until you are off probation.

if u ever want to see ur monitor again, u might want to drive down the to local sargent's house and look into the living room window. that's prolly where it is

well... u'll prolly get the slap on the wrist, as long as u dun try to be a wiseguy and mouth off to the judge. try not to do anything stupid in the future. if u do, don't get caught

"Even RAM can hold evidence"

The explaination about ram just didn't make sense..they were trying to compare ram to crt burn wich
is nonsense. A crt gets "burn" when the same area of phosphor on the screen gets struck by the
electron beam over and over. Ram needs to be energied to be capable of storing info, a simple "on"
or "off" state via a transistor.

They did it b/c they can. "Reasonable suspicion" is a nice, gray area they love to quote. It's part of his "computer system" so away it all goes. Including the extra ink carts he had for his printer. Don't play and you won't have to pay.

Im keeping my mouth shut as much as i can...But the evidence they have on me is very very little, but they do have some evidence.

I should be ok with any fines, because ill be getting a job soon and i wont be prosecuted for 6-12+months (Juve court is the slowest from what i heard).

For those of you who think my mom lacks discipline, that is true, but doesnt make her not a good mother. She provides a nice home to live under without my deadbeat father, and i respect her very much. Its my fault for whatever I've done, and it helps to have my mom not screaming my head off at me because i had high hopes in life such as college and everything and dont know if i will ever get close to where i wanted to be now.

Thats ok, you guys will just have 1 less Seti@home computer, and I will steal all the newegg refurbs and resell them before any of you guys get to them becaue i have nothing better to do.

You know, she lets you do what you do because she isn't a good mother. Not doing something is very easy. It is much harder to actually make an effort to make sure you're own kid doesn't grow up in jail. If she really wanted to help you, she wouldn't do the easy thing by offering to buy you a new computer or not hassle you. She'd give your ass a good spanking and ground your ass til you're 30.

As the saying goes: YOU PAY FOR STUPIDITY!

As for recovering files from a HD... They can recover files even from a HD that's been burned (literally!).

I wasnt expecting sympathy, i just wanted to know if i would ever see my system again.

Your mom should punish you, not support you - it's this lack of parental guidance that leads kids to stupid crimes! :disgust:

The police like to grandstand on stuff like this when you are your age , they try to appear like they are hard . They will probably try to intimidate you a little . I would not sweat it too much , unless you were pretty big into it .

I saw a special a few years back on disksavers, and I'm sure they have more advanced stuff now. They were talking about pulling a HD from the
bottom of a river and recovering stuff, pulling ones from fire damage, all kinds of crazy stuff, I'm having trouble believing if you used some norton
product that you could stop someone like that.
