The price of a gallon of milk ... remember the price wars?

I can remember (not too long ago), there was a massive price war on milk. Tom Thumb (Randall's), Albertsons, Kroger, HEB, etc started selling milk at $1.19, then $1.09.

One store went to $0.89, and Kroger hit $0.69 before it was all over. Strangly, it was only on the gallon milks, the half gallon was still $1.00+.

Wtf. Milk for $0.69 a gallon?! Water was $1.00 to $2.00 at the time.

--------------

Another thing that bothers me. Mustard comes in big glass jars, and tiny glass jars. About 50% of the time I go to the store to buy mustard, the small jar is more expensive.

The same is true with those new 6 oz or 8 oz Cokes. They are more per can than traditional 12 oz drinks?! What are you paying them for?

--------------

Supply and Demand my ass.

Milk prices tend to vary greatly depending on both time and region. In Wisconsin, milk at the chain stores is $1.69 for the generic (and $0.30 for the brand).

Stores will do that with a commodity like milk, because it gets people in the store.

And then they sell you COOKIES !

I remember ... when I was a little girl... my mother used to send me to the store for a pound of bologna, a pound of american cheese, a loaf of bread and a gallon of milk with $5.00 and i got change back.

i remember when two slices of pizza and a med coke was $1.00

I remember when at McDonalds ... a cheeseburger, med fries and med drink... got change back from a dollar.

i remember when gasoline was about $0.45 a gallon.

I was looking through some old photos I took when i was a teenager, one is of a Sohio gas station, gas was .31 a gallon high test, .21 for regular.

McDonalds started out promoting a family of four could eat for less than $2.

The sad thing is, fast food drove almost all the Mom and Pop drive-ins out of business. Drive-ins are cool.

we get our milk delivered every tuesday night. We have a cooler on the porch the milk company gave us for thier deliery. the milk comes in 1/2 gallon glass jugs and a 1/2 gallon cost 1.80, and we have 4 gallons delivered every week along with a gallon chocolate milk and a gallong of orange juice, my monthly dairy bill is just about 80 bucks.

but its worth it, nothing compares to dairy milk. the grocery store milk taste like wate. and the dairy chocolate milk is so smooth and creamy that is almost better than sex.

Yes, that was before the giant diary corporations used the struggle in the Middle West to jack milk prices up through the roof.

Where the hell are you getting milk for $1.69? Samsclub is even $1.94 and that's the cheapest I can find it.

Most Pick n Saves and Jewels and such are more like $2.50
