THE PS3 game to own

I got a PS3 yesterday mainly as a bluray player, but I figure I should have at least one game.

I am torn between Ratchet and Clank and Resistance Fall of Man.

I have a few shooters on the 360 already so I was leaning towards Ratchet, but Resistance got good reviews too.

Any thoughts?

Download both the demos and see which appeals to you more. Resistance drops you in the middle of a fun throwdown too.

I really enjoyed Uncharted, but it has limited replay value due to no multiplayer.

Consider Warhawk as well.

As a PC gamer.... I can not adjust to FPS's on a console. Best game on PS3 that I have played so far ... rockband. Great if you have 3 other friends to play with.

I suggest you get neither of those games and get Grand Theft Auto 4.

GTA 4 isnt out yet...so that doesnt work. Besides, I already reserved it for 360. And Im not sure what DMC4 is.

I think both of those games are very, very good and you really can't go wrong with either one. A couple of things to keep in mind... Resistance does have local co-op play. So if you are going to have the chance to play with some friends, that is a definite plus. Also, Resistance 2 is due out this fall, so you may want to play through the first one sometime before that. Either way you go right now, I think it's worthwhile to get both eventually.

-R&C is a fun whimsical game that actually can provide some good firefight moments where you need to employ a lot of tools. A fun game.
-Resistance has a good war story (stoked for Resistance 2... to the homeland's defense!), and plays like a solid shooter. Many a great firefight to be had in the game, and some genuinely creepy moments where you just don't know what the hell is going to happen.
-Uncharted is a GREAT game, but as mugs said, little replay value unless you want to replay chapters to collect max points (has a achievement-like system in the game, with some different tricks to change the gameplay or visual style for those times you replay chapters).
-Heavenly Sword is a great action game in the same vain as God of War, with an AMAZING story that really deserves play, and hollywood production values that just kind of leave you speechless. King Bohan is just golden. I'd say wait till it gets cheaper or pick it up as a rental. I bought it and have no regrets, but for short playtime... that's up to you. It's a must play though, for sure.
-Lair. If they bring back analog controls in a patch. Great game, but got butchered due to sixaxis controls. I had somewhat of a tough time with them, but it didn't completely hamper gameplay. I still have it, and will definitely pick it back up in the event of a patch with analog controls. Very cinematic gameplay too.

If you care about stories in games, with either game you're going to be buying into a franchise. R&C Future ends on a cliff-hanger, and Resistance 2 will be picking up where R1 left off.

R&C is rumored to get DLC soon, BTW

QFT...I got Resistance:FOM, and couldn't handle the controls. I'm sticking to "3rd person view" games and RPG's. Lot's of good PS2 RPG's to waste my time on.

Gotta say DMC4.... except it's not exclusive.

Uncharted is excellent, but it oes start to get old after a while. The story keeps it alive though.

Ratchet & Clank is pretty good. The constant stream of new weapons and good humour keep it going. So far, it has the best application of the Sixaxis controller for the PS3.

Resistance I've tried the demo, but still don't have. If you've played an FPS on PC, then there is no way you can call it THE game the get.

I'm a new convert to consoles, and I admit I mainly bought the PS3 because of the BR movie playing capability, on top of its gaming features. I was always a PC gamer, mainly because I dig racing sims and that (ie. PC) was where the action was at.

So far I only own (4) PS3 games but I'd recommend all of them ...

1.) R&C FTOD - As many reviewers have noted, it looks like a PIXAR movie, the graphics are so good. I was never a big shooter fan on any platform, but this game cracks me up and that's part of the fun.

2.) Uncharted - I like it, but then I'm not really in to multiplayer, so that short-coming doesn't bother me. Reminds me a bit of the old Tomb Raider, albeit with awesome graphics.

3.) F1 Championship - Very good F1 racing sim. While not quite yet to the level of some of the really good F1 sims that were on PC, it's still very good, and again, graphics are impressive. May be too hardcore for the occasional racer. Only downside is that it's based on the 2006 season which means no Spa. :brokenheart:

4.) DIRT - I was a fan of the Colin McRae Rally series on PC, so this was a natural for me to buy. Reviews of DIRT on other platforms (PC, etc.) were not great, but I think this has been tweaked for its release on PS3. Another eye-popper when it comes to graphics, and seems to cover the gamut for both the casual, as well as hardcore, racer. Lots of tracks and vehicles too.
