yes it is. the 9x multi on the Q6600 should be enough to get you the same final OC that you could get out of a Q6700 unless you're on water.

I think you'll have to wait for black friday to find a better price on the q6600, but they may be discontinued by then.

I called last night, they said they'd try but couldn't guarantee it, and that if I didn't receive a tracking number all night that meant it was probably cancelled, well I got no tracking number and called this morning to confirm and she told me it was indeed cancelled! Went and ordered at Frys immediately.

Now my turn: WOOHOO!

yes, it might be $150 some time after the 20th. then again, it could very well start to go up in price as availability declines and demand remains steady.

Yes (AFAIK), but if you live near certain stores there is a pickup at store option (but not in Oregon)

Yea i went to the nearest frys in san jose and the person i talked to told me the cpu had the price of 179.99 available on online. So i went to microcenter in santa clara and just bought a Q6600 from there for 199.99, came out to 216 after tax .

My G0 SLACR just arrived and is now running 3.0G at default volts. I'll start pushing it here in a bit!

Got a G0 as well. Got it on an Abit IP35 Pro. I think I'm having a bit of a problem with my temps. uGuru is telling me I am getting 29C under full load.... That can't be right. I'm on air....

Keep us updated!

Runs ok 3.0 stock volts, 3.2 at 1.3675v, and 3.4 at 1.4v though anything above 3.0 haven't proven to be prime stable yet. My temps never go above 55°C in core temp loaded via Orthos but as soon as I fire up prime95 and hit go, the system reboots itself.

3.6 at 1.4v starts to load windows but freezes on the desktop. I think if I had a better cooler and TIM, this chip could get to 3.6 on air with some voltage tweaking.

What is your VID?

Open coretemp and it is there.

1.3250v, I thought I posted it but that might have been on another forum.

When I first put it in, it was idling at like 49°C and I thought I had my HS mounted wrong but after a few minutes it dropped. Now it is idling 3.0GHz at 35°C.

Ouch, that's definitely on the higher end of VID's. Power consumption is on the order of Frequency*Vcore^2 so having that higher VID will definitely result in running a little warmer at idle and load.

You mentioned above that hitting 3.4GHz was taking a bit of Vcore to be windows stable...have you increased the voltages on any of the other components? NB, MCH, Vdimm?

At some point while cranking up the FSB to OC your Q6600 you run out of margin in those other components also operating on the FSB, brute forcing the Vcore does no good at that point as the gating item for higher FSB becomes something in the NB (such as the MCH) or the DDR2 voltage/clocks (try 1:1 with looser timings until you know your FSB is not going any higher).

My system can handle higher FSB's easily. I took out my E6550 that was running 3.5GHz using 501fsb. I really think it's my cooler and TIM holding me back mostly. The feet on my freezer 7 pro are getting weak and I can't find my bolt through kit, plus ceramique TIM is hard to apply and get good coverage when you are fighting the feet to get them latched.

You should know better than to equate dual-core FSB stability with quad-core FSB stability. They aren't even closely related.

Just ask anyone who owns an i680 board how well their Yorkfields clock when they replace their Wolfdales. (that's a joke, i680's can't run Yorkfields because the FSB isn't stable enough to handle 45nm quads but is just stable enough to handle 45nm dualcores...but it goes to prove my point)

If you want to verify your FSB speedlimits with a quadcore you need to drop your CPU multi to 6X in the BIOS and set your ram to 1:1 (synch) with loose as hell timings (5-5-5-14 or so) and then clock up your FSB and find out where in the lower 400's it is absolutely maxed out at.

I'm not saying your TIM/HSF is not limiting your CPU clocks...just saying don't go from dual-core to quad-core with expectations of what FSB is reasonable or what voltages on non-CPU components is reasonable...whole different ballgame.
