I agree with him dave, you should use your real account when you want to discuss things, and use the mod account for those purposes.

It's a discussion of a forum issue and believe it or not, Mods have input in that area.
In fact, I should have moved this to Forum Issues but if we don't let the wankers vent every once in a while, they blow the lid off this place.

BTW, those of you forced to post on these forums:
list your name in this thread and we will contact the appropriate authorities and see if we can get your shackles removed.

Then reply just like that, as a separate post, not editing other people's posts. Participation, not sneaking in replies using means unavailable to the rest of us, in a way that is not conducive to the flow of conversation.

Sure, the mods have the right to have input in the discussion, but since you're posting with a single account, that input could vary wildly through the lifetime of the thread based on whoever of you wants to log in and reply as a mod. You could just as easily log in as yourself and tell us YOUR opinions, since this thread really is supposed to be about user's opinions, not the staff's. (I'm assuming that last point, that's just what makes sense to me.)

Personally I don't care where the Mods weigh in, it reads all the same but, did I miss something in the thread to support your argument/point?

I considered it a given, but I was just about to edit that to mention that I was just assuming that and the original poster could have not agreed.

Moderators aren't supposed to be here to judge the quality of the content or participate in it, the moderator account is supposed to be for maintaining order. Therefore, it makes sense that the mods via the mod account shouldn't be involved in discussing whether the forums are still enjoyable.

If everyone were to stop taking the internet so seriously, maybe your ass wouldn't pucker up so much about meaningless things.

That's always been such an effective response to people complaining on forums. I'm convinced!

agreed; I think if Mods want to participate in a discussion they should log in and speak under their own account name. There are instances where Mods should reply under the Mod account, but when replying casually to discuss the topic, they should use their own logins.

I lay this on the mods as we have no control over locking/deleting threads.

It used to be very different - seeing a post get to 100 took a week and meant it was a hot topic. Nowadays, things hit 100 posts in an hour, cause everyone has to get their two words (literally) in.

But then again, I still can't think of anywhere better. Its a dumpster now, but its still my lovable dumpster.

Know what'd be really nice? If the moderators used their moderator login for that purpose, and used their own logins if they want to participate in the discussion.

Respect is not granted, it is earned. That kind of attitude and response does nothing to further respect towards the moderators as unbiased fair enforcers of the rules.

The mods aren't paid, so they don't care. Their only standard are their own, and if you've ever been at the hands of their injustice, you figure out quick that this is not a democracy, its a dictatorship, and standing up for yourself will only get you the limp wristed iron fist coming down on your head.

It happens with virtually every discussion forum. The forums simply reflect the changes happening around the world. Social interaction in general has become more insecure, mean-spirited, distrustful, petty and risque because of the major events that took place in the last 6-7 years. Of course, it will come around a full circle as it always has and things will get better in the future. But older forums generally don't reverse the trend, so I would really look to newer forums where the cycle can begin all over again.

right, respect is earned. the people who have become mods have - guess what? - earned respect and thus the position of moderator, and the reward is the rank of moderator and all the privileges that come with it.

And many people earn disrespect.

It looks like at times a Mod wants to hightlight a post as a Moderator vs as an indivigual.

The original comment was a Mod having fun with Dave.
That probably earned a better chuckle that if a P&N person from any side of the spectrum went and posted such a comment.

Dave read the comment and did not have a heartburn with it. Lord Evermore did so and Dave responded in kind.

It looked like the Mod also was slapping at Lord Evermore for complaining. It may be that Evermore may not visit P&N and therefore did not appreciate the humor of the first Mod comment.

Yes, the quality has gone down hill; however, some people attempt to maintain a level head rather degenerating it (ATOT) into the point where it all becomes trailer trash.

Not really, some of the old timers are just as guilty of dragging down the level of interaction - if anything, they often lead the way. Not only the old timers, but even the Moderators have become more acerbic in their comments - I am sure they feel justified and they probably are, but it definitely does not contribute toward a more friendly forum. They may carry a big stick, but they sure as heck don't speak softly. Anyway, I gave my opinion and now I'll just sit back and listen until the discussion starts going downhill

It's gone downhill for sure. The reading comprehension exhibited by a lot of the replies to any given thread is bewildering and gets really annoying. It's as if every thread turns into e-penis measuring rather than discussion about the actual topic.

ahh thats the line of reasoning that got many baned in the now useless "change of culture" thread.

actually i shouldn't say useless. that thread did a lot for ATOT. it spawned a few other sites that are doing well and let us know how the mods are.

i agree trying to mod ATOT would be a pain. Atot will take a saying or joke a repeat it 100000 times a day for a year. not to mention the VS threads get annoying.

but i do enjoy some of the "blog type" post. such as vacations etc

My comment had nothing to do with the humor. I saw why it could have been funny. I just thought it would have been better suited as that moderator logging in under his/her own account and posting it, since the moderator account should not be used to participate. I thought I was pretty clear on what I was saying.

Yes, hasn't been the same since 02 and most of the good, older members are long gone.

Remember AT was born when PC's were still up and coming in power and experimentation to get them stable.

Now PC's have more power than the Apps can possibly use and stable to the point of Government/Microsoft Intel/AMD looking to take them over.

In other words they control every aspect of YOUR machine. It no longer would belong to you. The PC actually belongs to the Government/Microsoft Intel/AMD platform called "Trusted Computing Alliance".

Between that and the Government/Corporations (see Internet Nuetrality) looking to completely take over the Internet to control the flow of the Internet and Information, the Internet is on the edge of becoming extinct in the U.S. as we once knew it.

Yes, that means AT also on the edge of becoming extinct as well.

Enjoy

The government should use all of that unused power for running distributed clients. If only there was a person that could help out with all the installations.
