I just bought an 8800GTX and I don't wanna have buyer's remorse in a month or two
Hopefully at most the R600 is only 5% faster then I'd feel fine with my purchase... I'll get benchies up when the card arrives.

You also have the G81 refresh coming soon as well.
That depends what the R600 is if it beats the 8800 GTX by ~20 % you can bet the refresh will be a 7800 GTX 512.Originally posted by: allies

I don't suspect the refresh will be out before March. Stop trying to get me down!
And hopefully it's just cooler/quiter/draws less power, and not much increase of performance
Expensive, limited and hard to find?Originally posted by: Cooler

Considering it has been confirmed that R600 has 512 bit bus with 1.2 GDDR4 which = 150~GB/sec bandwidth.. I doubt they will be equal, specially with high AA and high res

Oh, you didn't hear from the Inquirer? R600 is going to have the unheard of, unreleased GDDR5. I heard it will liek totely opertae at 5GHz more easily tahn teh G80.

8900GTX with GDD4? The way the G80 works, it has plenty enough bandwidth and 512-bit wouldn't make sense. A die shrink with faster speeds/more scalar power? The architecture seems modular enough to implement this. Not to mention we haven't even seen the full power of the 8800GTX (DX10, constant buffer fetching?). No, the G80 has taken a baby step and long strides are in its future.
Are there plans for a 8800GTX GO? Stick two of those on a double-decker PCB and call it a 8850GX. There are so many options.
The R600 will have to be beyond an engineering marvel to beat out whatever nV has in store next. It would seem the GeForce is holding all of the cards atm, with ATi relying on its R600 trump.
R600vs8800GTX specifically? I'm guessing R600 wins in pre-Oblivion games but the 8800GTX takes Obv+DX10.

Oblivion has been an ATi strong-point until the G80. I'd be willing to bet that once ATi answers with their product it will be another mislabeled TWIMTBP title.I'm guessing R600 wins in pre-Oblivion games but the 8800GTX takes Obv+DX10.
Or it could be just another X1900 type of product, performing right on par with and sometimes better than the 7 series refresh but arriving before it. I personally don't think that will happen again but who knows, we are just speculating. The R600 will have to be beyond an engineering marvel to beat out whatever nV has in store next.
