What about voltage control in Trixx? I hate having to overlap GPU Tool and Trixx, they override each others' clocks sometimes >.>

In sapphire trixx there is a scroll bar on the right hand side in the overclocking tab. I'll bet you $100 that's your problem. I know because it took me awhile to find it.

Can somebody answer these questions:

What is the difference between board power and voltage control?

Why can't you have trixx and gpu tweak open at the same time? And what about ccc overdrive, should that be disabled as well if using trixx?

I would suggest getting a better PSU if you want to run both an over clocked CPU & GPU at the same time. As someone who has had PSUs burn out on him you don't want to deal with that pain.

With that CPU I would suggest a Corsair 600w that don't cost too much.

This one is on sale with a rebate and coupon code. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16817139028

Thanks for the tip. I actually do own a Kingwin Lazer Platinum PSU. I just don't feel like going through the trouble of installing it until I redo my rig. Trying to decide if I should stick with my Q6600 and wait for haswell or go for IB now.

http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product...82E16817121080

I realize that my current PSU might be a problem which is why I mentioned it but I was running a GTS 250 before which has a TDP of 150w. The 7850 has a TDP of 130 + 20w for OC so I figured I should be fine. I bought a kill-a-watt just for fun. I should probably get around to using it.

Grrr, I can't overclock the memory at all, even 1300 is resulting in artifacs in Heaven, whatever power (1.150-1.2v) I put through it at stock (870 Mhz) core. Freaking Hynix is ticking me off

As far as the core is concerned, I'm stuck @ 1100/4800, default 1.138v - even 1150 or 1200 // 4800, pumped with 1.25v, don't seem to be stable :|

my memory is also a poor overclocker

1100/1250 is what I run at
I can't set enough voltage for higher GPU speeds
Really at these speeds tho, pretty much any CPU will hold these things back.

Memory makes so little difference that you can safely leave it stock. Seeing as how cool your card runs makes it pretty weird that you can't get to 1150 core even on 1.25v.

OCing is more to do with hardware limitations not just heat remember the silicon lottery.

I seem to have found a sweet spot at 1100 Core / 1300 Mem / 1.200v.

An i5-2500K @ 4.6 Ghz? Nah.

impressive overclock
I just know going from stock to 1100/1250 has nearly no effect on benchmarks with my CPU. Infact cranking up AA/AF doesn't put a dent in FPS at 1920x1200

I'd be interested to see some before/after benchmarks you get with that vid card overclock

Here are some of my benchmarks comparing different clock speeds and other vid cards i've used.

Wrong. my minumim frame rate in mafia 2 jumped by 10 just by upping the memory from 1210 to 1300

Loll we have almost identical cards. My card kept throttling everytime I tried to push it so I settled on 1125 core and that extra 25mhz actually makes a huge difference for me believe it or not. What kind of fan profile do you guys have setup with your card?

I feel like Don lately, changing video cards left and right.

My 670 fan crapped out on me. Fan barely spins and is making a loud clicking noise.

I was quite happy with my 7850 (which I still have), and I could use the money towards a new laptop (I'd like something with a bit more GPU power), so it kinda worked out. I'm returning the 670 today for a refund.

I'd say it was just bad luck. My 670 hadn't even been overclocked yet. I am 100% confident it was just a fluke.

Decided to plug the 7850 back in. The 5870 I had for sale now goes back in rig #2.

This comment really bothers me because it's incongruiint with my findings. In 3dmark11 I got a graphics score of 6392 @ 1125/1300 and compared my score @ 1100/1375 and found I got 6401. I bumped my clocks to 1125/1375 and my score is 6511! So memory does make a difference.

Yup memory makes so little tangible real world difference that it's not even an issues so long as it's DDR5 and @ leased 128bit memory bus width.

I've already mentioned how I gained 10 frames on my minimum frame rate in mafia 2 just by overclocking my memory. minimum frame rate is just as important if not more so in real world gaming.

KK I went ahead and benched at 1100/1300/1.2v. I think it would be interesting to compare the differences between our CPUs for those with a Q6600 that are thinking about jumping to a 7850. Running my Q6600 at 3.2Ghz fyi.

Got a score of 5353 in 3dmark11 basic.

http://3dmark.com/3dm11/3639219

and heaven 3.0 with 4x AA, normal Tess, medium shaders, 1920x1080

FPS:
55.8
Scores:
1405
Min FPS:
22.7
Max FPS:
110.7

Also interesting to note, with 7850 @ 1.2v I was pulling about 130w idle and ~280w load.
7850 @ 1.23v I'm doing ~300w load.
The only problem is that my card gets really hot. On a hot day it's reaching 71c.

my thermalright spitfire keeps my 7850 very cool
I just can't give it enough voltage to get more speed
it's like it'd want 1.25 to hold 1200 or higher

28c idle 50c load

The 7850 is perfectly adequate for 1080p aside from a few outside cases where you could just turn down a few settings to work around it.

I know but he's completely unhelpful and he trolls all of the amd threads. What's it going to take for mods to take action?

Mods can't "take action" if they aren't aware of the problem.

We can't possibly read every post of every thread of every subforum...not even if we spent 24 hrs a day at our computer could we accomplish such a task.

The first line of defense is you, and all of your fellow forum colleagues. You must report the post (click the little red triangle
located in the lower-left corner of the post you wish to report) so that it is elevated to the attention of the moderators.

The police can't put a policeman on every corner, that's why they instituted the 911 system. The forums can't put a mod in every thread, that is why we have the report-post feature.

I'd love to do a comparison, but I only can do 1680x1050 (my screen) and 3DMark 2011 does not run for me at all (probably some conflict). Can you try a run of Heaven bench @ 1680x1050, normal tesselation, high shaders, x4 FXAA, no Aniso?

I'd just like to remark that I have repeatedly reported this user for his behavior in the last few days. Thank you for your vigilance and admin work nonetheless. I hope that with the Admin Staff being aware of the Forum-wide problem now, it can be resolved and the user will cease to be a detriment to civil and material discussion.

So have I to reported this user it's makes no sense to me why someone would argue with another person whom has made wild claims but never offers any proof and documentation to back up such claims sigh face palm :-( But really come on an 850+ post mantra about a GPU that performs as well as a 6950 and has problems holding a steady OC probable cause it is missing the extra 6pin and small PCB that it's bigger brother has.

Sure here you go. Running at lower resolution puts more stress on CPU so it will advantage the 2500k but whatever. I've actually been spending more time with my PC benching than playing games. Gonna try and go for 1200 tonight. i'm such a geek.
