Is the conservative plan to make her so popular that she's elected president?

Cute video. I don't see why it would bother anyone, it could have come out of Disney.

AOC made a big splash with her entry into politics, and wants to fundamentally change the structure of the US. That's easy to say, easy to talk about, easy to promote, not so easy to do.
We've seen the salesmen, we've heard the pitch, now we need the engineer to tell us how it's going to work.

Holy fuck a sensible sounding conservative

Well, she's an idiot. That's reason enough not to vote for her.

I've no interest in her personal life apart from anything truly egregious.
All that didn't stop people (including you?) voting for the current admin did it?
Anything she has/will do will pale in comparison to the corruption, immorality, discrimination, etc. that the current admin represents. But abortion I guess...

She should have spent her high school and college years talking people's ears off about gutting Medicare and Social Security like a true Patriot would have, not dirty hippie shit like dancing. What a bowl of filth she is.

Oh yeah, what happened to that guy?

When was the last time a house freshman rep was pushed into the spotlight so hard by the opposing party. She isn't a major player in the Democratic party and likely never will be. Her views are not mainstream even for the left. I don't know much about but probably more than I should considering her district is on the other side of the county. Guessing people in her district have never heard my Representatives name. This obsession is abnormal.

Righties have accused people like me of having Trump derangement syndrome whenever we complain about him. Trump being a vile, piece of filth who is a serial liar and commits transgressions against the United States and a subset of its people on almost a daily basis. The bar for despicable acts has been set so low by his supporters Trump's claim of shooting someone on the street are valid.

Trump deserves his scorn. Now let's take someone who is in the top 5 of right wing boogeymen, who happens to be a woman Alexandria Ocasio Cortez. She has just been sworn into office, has yet to commit any condemnable acts yet conservatives are so desperate to smear her a right wing twitter account posted a so called scandelous video of her allegedly in high school dancing. Let's just say it back fired. People now are finding her even more likeable.
https://www.washingtonpost.com/poli...dorable/?noredirect=on&utm_term=.ea638652cb82

Conservatives will look to smear people on the left of upstanding character even when they've done nothing wrong. Remember the standards for Obama scandals? Tan suit in the Oval Office, not wearing flag pin. Righties couldn't stand it even Obama sang an Al Green hit at a fund raiser.

I've been agnostic on AOC but all the hate from righties is making me like her more.
You have TDS and they have AOCDS, although interestingly enough, AOC is drawing fire from her own side, McCaskill being a notable example.

It’s obvious what the GOP is doing. AOC is a lightning rod at the fault lines where the Democrat coalition could fragment, so of course they are going to make sure she gets the spotlight.

She's an idiot? Based on what we have in the White House what is your standard of measure?
I think its more that he disagrees with her therefore shes an idiot. Cant possibly be that hes got a narrow minded view of whats an acceptable political opinion.

It's not a high school dance video. It's a dance video that she made with her classmates at Boston University as a homage to The Breakfast Club. Nowhere near close to being trashy. It's probably the most innocuous and wholesome dance video a bunch of college kids can do.

If your life is that miserable and boring to find something like this offensive, then you deserve to be insulted.

I think they are making a catastrophic mistake by highlighting her. While her policies are substantially to the left for the average POLITICIAN the policies she’s actually putting forth are enormously popular with voters. (Forget whether or not they are good ideas)

Generally it is an extremely bad idea to put a spotlight on young, attractive, and fun people with popular policy ideas. I suspect this is because Republicans incorrectly think the electorate is much more conservative than it really is.

Moreover, there is a striking conservative bias in politicians’ perceptions, particularly among conservatives: conservative politicians systematically believe their constituents are more conservative than they actually are by more than 20 percentage points on average, and liberal politicians also typically overestimate their constituents’ conservatism by several percentage points.

That video is only likely to make her even more popular among young people, more popular among men (for looking hot as hell) and more popular among...anyone who doesn't have a stick up their ass. If this is the state of the GOP's oppo files these days, 2020 should be fun.

Trump has done much to justify scorn. What has AOC done to justify an attempted smear from college days which only highlights Republicans have sticks up their asses? Like I said before I think CMC is pissed and jealous.

If its justified its not derangement.

Also to add to thread, Republicans booed her when she voted for Nancy Pelosi.

BTW - Do we to date know what Trump discussed with Putin in Helsinki when Trump backed him over our own country? Or is asking that question deranged??

To be honest it just makes me glum at the thought of what a non-dancing, introverted worrywort I was at that age. I dance more like Theresa May.

I do slightly wonder if this was really posted by a right-winger. They'd surely have to be pretty dim (or insanely puritanical) to think that clip would be damaging. But I suppose one can't overestimate how odd some conservatives' world-view is. If they can conclude that the mere existence of a snowball is disproof of climate change, or that Hillary was running a global child abuse network out of a pizza shop, I guess they can believe anything.

AOC's more vapid comments aren't being translated directly into national policy. For instance, "I don't believe my own administration's climate change report!. Trump and the Republicans deliberately blew up "the deficit" with their own personal tax give-away to themselves, and then tried to use that as an excuse to gut everything that doesn't line their pockets,

She is a much better vehicle to call out corruption than Maxine Waters. She's already impressed with her failure to sell out as soon as she got off the plane.

I look forward to the obsessive, bloated reactionaries making fools of themselves over one U.S. representative. She is the new Hillary, and they just can't help themselves

Of course they are enormously popular, who doesn’t want the government to take care of everything. Lots of enormously popular ideas turn out horrendous due to poor execution. The devil is always in the details.

GOP calculations on the conservatism of the electorate is what got us Trump, and young, attactive and fun is the path to his winning a second term. This isn’t America’s Got Talent.

Oh they could absolutely be bad ideas but we're talking electoral tactics here, not governing. I think it is a catastrophic electoral strategy to focus media attention on enemies of yours who are compelling and have popular ideas because voters tend to...well... vote for them.

GOP calculations on the conservatism of the electorate is what got us Trump, and young, attactive and fun is the path to his winning a second term. This isn’t America’s Got Talent.

Trump is not exactly young or attractive, haha. (arguably fun) I think part of Trump's appeal was specifically that he promised policies far to the left of the average Republican. Remember he was the guy saying that he wanted universal health care, to raise tariffs to protect blue collar jobs, to raise taxes on the rich, etc, etc. It was all lies, but it was a big part of his appeal, especially in the rust belt areas that proved decisive.

There were zero calculations involved with the GOP nominating Trump, he simply overwhelmed them because they had mistakenly conditioned their base to swallow any and all bullshit sent their way.
