Dowd is neither vapid nor an idiot, but she kind of is, personally, an odd bird, more than a little stiff necked. I may not always agree with her, but I absolutely respect what I see as her unyielding integrity. The thrust of the OP is more than a bit overblown out of context, though.

I remember liking her stuff on Bush. Haven't paid much attention to her since. When I think of vapid idiot I tend not to think of highly educated successful individuals in one of the most difficult arenas on earth but rather of Bible thumping fundamentalists who believe the earth is 6,000 years old.

That and she was a pretty hot Redhead in the day.

I do not always agree with her myself, but she has had valid points of view over time, and was always well worth reading IMHO.
