The reason Biden's late son wanted his father to run for President

Before he died, Beau Biden told his father he wanted him to run partly because he didn’t want the White House to fall back into the miasma of Clinton family values.

The above is from Maureen Dowd, in a scathing and brilliant piece on Hillary and Obama.

I have to admit I didn't know this word. Looked it up

Miasma - a highly unpleasant or unhealthy smell or vapor

Synonyms: stink, reek, stench, fetor, smell, fume, odor

Sounds just about right.

Dowd to her credit, has long called out the Clinton clan for what it is.

I think it makes sense for his son to want Biden to run... I don't get why anyone else did, though.

Her piece actually wasn't so much about Biden. But about the youth of this country being told by Obama and others to vote for the corrupt Clinton clan. Some hope, some change.

I think a lot of folks would have preferred if Biden ran. Or Gore. But it wasn't to be so I don't some dead guy's opinion is going to change minds about who to vote for now in the actual election.

The only people who read MoDo are those looking for confirmation of their beliefs and those who hold their pinky in the air while they sip from their tea cup. The only thing I want to know is if she was drunk when she wrote this...lol

His politics aren't mine and he well earned his reputation as the Washington gaff machine, but Biden is one of the few long time CongressCritters who never used his influence and connections for personal wealth building. Ethically that elevates him far above 99% of his peers. When one is entrusted with the power inherent in the Presidency, character and history of strictly ethical behavior are the two top qualifications in my book.

Biden I could vote for.

Hillary no way in hell.

I wish Biden had thrown his hat in the ring.

Very well said. It is very rare to have men or women in the corridors of power like that these days. Character - whatever happened to it in America? I wonder....materialism ate it up I suppose.

Should we continue reading the New York Times then? They seem to have a preference for candidate this year

If Biden had been nominated, you'd have immediately begun tearing him down here as unfit to be elected. Please don't even pretend otherwise.

Hillary's got assassinated by the right, and you are one of the vandals eagerly setting fire to what's left.

Trump is immune. You have to have character in the first place. He has none.. He's a vapid, narcissistic amoral ignoramus . . . a casual serial liar and a pursed-lips pig who treats his run for our highest office like a Duck Dynasty level reality show extravaganza, starring THE DONALD.

Don't act as though you have any possible idea what I would or would not do. You are just a pretentious asshole that thinks they are better than everyone else. Just like you have always done.

I wanted Biden to run, but in hindsight I don't think he would have gotten the nomination. So I guess I'm glad he didn't.

I think he and Hillary would have split their votes along some percentage, which would have allowed Bernie to get the nomination. I know that some people think that would have been a great thing, but I don't.

The story is far more complicated than meets the eye:
http://www.politico.com/story/2015/10/joe-biden-beau-2016-214459
But I don't doubt that Beau admired his father and thought his father deserved the shot at the White House more than Hillary.
Ultimately Joe Biden decided against it, so we'll never know. Grass is always greener on the other side.
What we do know is that Biden didn't just endorse Hillary, he is actively campaigning for her. Since he is not running for any other office, doesn't care about getting reelected, why is he ignoring his beloved son's dying wish, if it was in fact to keep Clintons out of the White House. So the story is questionable to me, just based on that. But since it's multiple levels of hearsay from someone who is unfortunately not with us anymore to correct it, there is no way to know for sure, so people are going to believe what they want to believe.

Maureen Dowd is a vapid idiot.

Everything she writes is projection. You can safely ignore anything she says.

Maureen Dowd is a vapid idiot.

Dowd is neither vapid nor an idiot, but she kind of is, personally, an odd bird, more than a little stiff necked. I may not always agree with her, but I absolutely respect what I see as her unyielding integrity. The thrust of the OP is more than a bit overblown out of context, though.

Here is Dowd's more fully fleshed out thoughts on the two contenders, from her now out book:

In her book, she finds the reality television real estate mogul an oddly charming sexist, megalomaniac and narcissist, ill-informed yet supremely confident. She finds the former senator and secretary of state a public-spirited idealist, meticulously steeped in policy details, yet damaged by a discordant and self-defeating penchant for secrecy and greed.

I don't agree with her about the "greed" part, but all the rest? Yeah. I agree with the ultra-tough on everyone Maureen Dowd that Hillary Clinton is a public-spirited idealist, meticulously steeped in policy details, yet with a discordant and self-defeating penchant for secrecy.

So, yeah, she's not perfect. She's ALSO miles ahead of the three other contenders -- Trump, Johnson and Stein -- who have spilled out of the clown car of American Presidential politics. Miles and miles ahead.

Maureen Dowd is a vapid idiot.

Yea she opposed Bush going into Iraq (nearly unilaterally) BEFORE he went in and basically BLEW UP THE ENTIRE MIDDLE EAST. That illustrates just how stupid she is....

After she trashed Al Gore, who would have avoided the Iraq mess entirely, in the run up to 2000 election. Now she is trashing Hillary, draw your own conclusions.

I know exactly what you would do, as shown by exactly what you've already said about Joe Biden here already:

In the thread,
Biden: 'War on Women' is Real, Will Intensify your smug little put down dismissal of the man is:

Biden says ... LOL! You are really funny.

Or this:

I don't see where the VP matters much. It isn't like he is doing anything important. Look what Biden has done the last three years ... crickets ...

I just unmasked your own pretentious bullshit with your own words. How 'ya like them apples?
