lets have the Mississippi Crackers!
It would "even things out," maybe....but would that team name actually reflect Mississippi demographics?
:hmm:
lets have the Mississippi Crackers!
lets have the Mississippi Crackers!
This has possibilities: custom Helmullet sales alone would be worth millions!
That would make more sense for the Mississippi Hillbillies. or Mississippi Trailer Hogs. or Mississippi Rednecks. or Mississippi Trash. etc.
"cracker" is more general for all white people, afaik.
This is why the name will never change.

Seriously, why is this coming up 80 years after the team was started? I really despise people who get offended for others who aren't even offended themselves.
Tommy Yazzie, superintendent of the Red Mesa school district on the Navajo Nation reservation, grew up when Navajo children were forced into boarding schools to disconnect them from their culture. Some were punished for speaking their native language. Today, he sees environmental issues as the biggest threat to his people.
The high school football team in his district is the Red Mesa Redskins.
Racists!
Navajo Code Talkers leader defends Redskins name

Silly man, doesn't he know when to follow whiteys agenda.
Hawthorne, vice president of the Navajo Code Talkers Association, said the group's trip was paid for by the Redskins. The four men met briefly with team owner Dan Snyder but did not discuss the name, Hawthorne said. Still, he said he would endorse the name if asked, and the televised appearance in which three of the Indians wore Redskins jackets spoke for itself.
not to totally discount what this veteran is thinking but:
I mean...yeah.
but history is history, this guy doesn't give an origin for the name, because it really is an insult. As said about 2 dozen times already--this isn't about being PC, it's about not being jackasses.
Bob Costas isn't an idiot.
He's a sharp guy, very smart. I wouldn't call him a buffoon, either.
I'm sure I've read thousands of posts on this subject by now, on many different sites. Why is every argument for keep the "beloved patriot" name colored with such acidic hatred? Is it coming from a place deep within?
This whole thing's silly. Oklahoma means the same thing and I don't see everyone up in arms to rename the state to something less offensive. Bunch of hypocrisy.
Chicago means "stinky onion" in the native language.
