Because as a Publicly Listed company they have a fiducial duty to their shareholders, so when an opportunity to close a Court Matter comes along for a trivial amount to Intel, they do that, rather than run the risk of getting a jury as clueless as the OJ Simpson jury, who might find for AMD.
That is why I previously said they weren't going to play a game of chicken with their shiny new Rolls Royce against someone driving a clapped out rustbucket and deathtrap.
No doubt it was also proving distracting to senior management to have to be worrying if a Court might be keen on doing a partial anti-monopoly job on Intel too, just to save AMD's sorry arse.
