You mean the republicans that actually kept their word to their constituents and did what they said they were going to do ? The republicans who kept their campaign promises? My Rep. is on the list and i'm proud he kept his word, the fact that you don't like it makes me even happier.

Indeed, if they'd made this sh**nugget happy, I'd never vote for them again. D:

awww your rear end hurting a little bit huh??? can`t accept the fact that your beloved republicans screwed themselves royal this time!!!

It should be hurting, you guys have been fucking the country over for years.

Actually, believing deficits don't matter is more of a republican thing:

"You know, Paul, Reagan proved that deficits don't matter. We won the mid-term elections, this is our due. " - Dick Cheney to Paul O'Neill, then Treasury Secretary

I love how Dems are now (favorably) comparing Obama to Reagan, after vilifying the latter for decades. That's some comical (and hypocritical) shit, right there.

I'd argue that the GOP fixation with the military is moderating. Especially in the Tea Party wing, which seems to have significant Jacksonian populist impulses. As a libertarian, while many things about the Tea Party horrify me, I cheer this on this moderation in zeal for military adventurism and hope it continues.
This is also one of the very few things I find myself agreeing with the Tea Party on, but we can't forget that adventurism isn't the only military sepending that needs to be cut responsibly.

It is clear you don't even remotely understand the point that was made here by Phokus. I mean, you can't even recognize that it wasn't a comparison or that the point wasn't even about Reagan.

I want sane checks and balances, not insane ones. Fix your party intead of trying to tear the other one down to your level of insanity.
I don't consider the Republican party to be "my" party although until the Tea Party can be become sufficiently viable or another fiscally conservative party emerges, I guess I am stuck with them.

With that understanding, I'm sure you can understand that I consider the Democrat party and especially the progressive wing of it to be acting in an insane manner. It's all a matter of perception.

I found, earlier this week a test to determine one's political leanings. Not the one that circulates around here from time to time either. I'm pretty middle of the road. But from a fiscal perspective, I'm as conservative as they come.

I realize the need for varying viewpoints. I've said before that either political party is capable of doing extreme damage to this nation with absolute power. But it seems that our country has bred a whole lot of folks that are only capable of looking at the problems of our nation with one eye open. Either the left or the right. This won't end well.

My post will be seen as the ravings of a far right radical and therein lies part of our problem.

It's all still Bush's fault.

Cutting taxes for the rich will never ever work.

So when does obama ever take responsibility?

bush was an idiot but he was right on the tax cuts although for the wrong reasons.

The bush tax cuts increased revenue and the rich paid more in taxes. The problem is he spent away all that money on many useless government programs and the trillions for the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq.

Based on what every expert says, "enforcing the debt ceiling" now would do the exact opposite of what you want.

No, NOT every expert says that. Many economists and thinkers believe that to be the case, but there are plenty of "experts" arguing for enforcing the debt ceiling as well.

Right... the consensus expert opinion was that it would be a disaster.

Obama voted against increasing the Debt limit in the past.

Was he screwing the country then?

He was certainly voting to, yes.

Playing default games is just stupid. If I were a Republican, and really saw cutting spending as a national priority (disclaimer: I'm not and I don't), I would get rid of the debt limit altogether but hold firm on the next round of budget fights. The brinksmanship over default is where people really turned on the Republicans. I don't think the reaction would be nearly as bad for them if the fight had only been about the government shutdown, and they probably would have squeezed a lot more out of the Dems (though probably not a dismantling of the ACA).

Note that this comment really does come out of a place of sincerity. Despite being a liberal, I want a healthy, rational Republican Party to give it some competition. If the Republicans keep repeating this process every 3 months, we're going to have a Democratic hegemony.

Acting on behalf of constituents while flying that plane full of innocent people into a building is not in the best interest of the country, don't u know?
And besides. ALL and EVERY ONE of these gerrymandered districts that elected this minority do not reflect the true electorate.
Think of it as a map of any given state with the red outlined of a big hand and the middle finger pointing upwards. THAT is gerrymandered districting.
And it creates a dysfunctional, unrealistic, representation of ones state districts.
This should be outlawed. It will do great harm to America if not.
Yes, outlaw this stunt that both republicans AND democrats use simply to ensure their re election.
If people want a third world Iran-ish or Iraq-ish type of dysfunctional government, keep the gerrymandered district process alive.
But DO NOT expect a functional government in your lifetime.
Think of it as Michele Bachmann on steroids.
THAT vision should scary the holy crapola out of every level headed American.

...with an overflowing latrine, several holes in the hull, and someone keeps hiding a magnet under the compass.
Compass? They don't need no fucking compass. Believing the reading on a compass requires faith that science behind it is sound. No, much better to follow their feelings.

Where's the list of Democrats who believe that money grows on trees and that deficits don't matter?

The shutdown/debt-limit brinkmanship had nothing to do with deficits. In fact, Obamacare reduces the budget deficit.

The deficit is driven mostly by Social Security and Medicare, and there was nothing in the "unclean" CRs passed in the House that addressed these programs.

No, the government shutdown and debt-ceiling extortion were stunts by Tea Party legislators that pretty much everyone was predicting - in August and September - were destined for failure.
