The SBC/Yahoo mail merge scam

I have SBC/Yahoo DSL.

After I got the DSL service, I inquired about merging my yahoo.com e-mail with my sbcglobal.net email. I pointed out that I wanted a steady e-mail and that, when I would discontinue service, I would like to still have my yahoo.com e-mail. I was assured that it would not be a problem if (1) I got my yahoo email first, then (2) merge it with an sbcglobal sub-account.

Apparently, this is not the case. If you merge mail, then later discontinue the DSL service, you have to pay $9.95 per month to "maintain" your yahoo e-mail. It says so in the fine print just as your about to merge the mail. The e-mail that was once free now costs $9.95 a month! That sucks. If you don't pay up, then the e-mail account is lost for-ever!

My best bet, now is to continue the service with a dial-up for $9.95 a month, since I have 6 merged e-mails and I used one on all my resumes.

I can not see how any one can provide you with a solution for this problem.

However if you are an action man. :light:

To register a domain costs $15 a year.

Your email become jack@iamabigguy.com

There is a lot of offering on the Internet for Web Hosting.

For as little as $8.95 for 6 months you can get space to publish pages with ftp sever and your own email services (no need to forward any thing).

($8.95 x 2)= $18 + $15 = $33 that is less than $3 a month.

Look at few of these services and choose one that you are comfortable with.

The main differences between services that offer similar space are the level of support. More support more expensive.

If you want to use MS FrontPage as a Site Builder you have to make sure that FrontPage Extensions are available and included in the price.

Most of the services have email that is both WebMail and pop3.

If you only run email on the space it takes less than an hour to get familiar with the system and start you email server going.

Few examples:

3-95.com

icdsoft.com

DixieSys.com

Unless the person plans to do something that is considered NONO by a commercial Hosting service, it is ?Silly? to pay (or even if it is free) and use email.

There is ample of space to give emails to family and friends and even to a girlfriend or a boyfriend.

Imagine the sweet revenge. If they dump you they have to worry about merging their email somewhere else. :brokenheart:

P.S having your own email makes much better impression on resumes etc.

Isn't the cost related to using their pop address? I think you can still use the same address using the yahoo webmail. If so, you can use other third-party utilities to download emails to your hard drive, just like using a pop & email application.

I guess I'll have to pay for dialup service for now.

I'll definitely consider web-hosting in the future.

I just wanted other to be aware of the scam....
