Did this for 2 years...no safety ropes. Did it in middle of winter...climbing icy roofs for 18 bucks an hour.

Some days I'd come home and drink myself to sleep.

i worked in TO as a labourer building grocery stores.

the boss had me go up to the roof (december) and put up a sign on the front.

it was icy as hell and i slid down about 15 feet and slammed in to a metal grating that stopped me from dying.

that was pretty scary.

the old data center I used to work at was frightening... my first day on the job, some guy lost a finger

it was very, very poorly designed on both sides (my company was renting space, and we surely overloaded the racks beyond what the facility was designed to cool, but now that I'm more experienced, looking back I can clearly see that the facility itself had a poor cooling strategy)

since everything was cooled so poorly and everything was a degree away from overheating, the facility -- I think this was Qwest -- installed these giant industrial standing fans along every row. common sense would dictate turning off the fan prior to moving it, but I guess this employee didn't even think about it... his finger slipped through the fan grate, and bye bye finger.

I was in that rack area later that day and there were still some spots of blood on the floor :\

this facility was also in the ghetto and I worked a night shift, so there were frequent run-ins with crack addicts. I don't know anyone who worked there who didn't have their car broken into at least once.

So tell me Mongrel. What was so scary about your time in Iraq? Worried your SO was fucking your best friend back home?

Jesus, you don't learn do you?

You troll your own damn thread.

You ask posters what was the scariest job they ever did. Mongrel posted Marines and you post two bullshit anti-service posts to troll your own thread.

You're going way out of your way to be an asshole and that's what's going to get you kicked off this forum.

Coming down on the people that served this country on Veteran's Day, no less, shows unmitigated gall.

Take another couple weeks off and learn some manners.

I've not had a job that paid me to do things that's too dangerous because I'm white collar....but I'm not that white collar... When I go home, I do all kinds of home projects that put me on my roof and on ladders. Those things are usually the most dangerous because I don't spend enough time up there to feel comfortable. I can say that after spending a few weeks on my 9.5/12 pitch roof, I actually got used to it and it didn't seem that bad, but it takes a toll on your legs and you can't think about where you are...you just have to complete the work.

I couldn't imagine working in those conditions when the roof would be wet or icy. It would take some real experience to deal with that a 8/12-12/12 pitch.

My first solo shift in law enforcement was after a 100 hour academy and ~3 weekends riding with someone.

After going full time (and getting months and months of training before going solo), I fully realized how bad that could have been. Fortunately, nothing happened.

Cleaning a rock crusher while it was running followed by running a hotel kitchen and receiving a call from the lobby telling you the tour group of 200 was there and where was their breakfast? When you had no idea there was supposed to be a breakfast served.

P.S. War doesn't count, it's not a job. It's a bizarre alternate reality you have to fight your way out of.

Though maybe a legitimate concern, that's just not nice to say.

Maybe you know more about Mongrel's back story but some of us have great respect for those having served in the military on the bottom half of the ladder and your comment is way out of line.

Lab tech in a virology lab. Culturing HIV. Also lots of temp construction work that wasn't OSHA compliant to say the least.

I was never in Iraq btw, I was way before then.

Just for the record.
It doesn't matter where you served or how you served, thank you for your service. You made a choice that not all of us are capable of making.
