E3 was great this year and new Monkey Island content is part of what made it great, I hope they nail the voice acting for the Monkey 1 remake, Dom Armato did a fantastic job on Curse of Monkey Island.

I was mistaken when I attributed the remake to Telltale Games, they are not handling the remastering of SoMI but they are developing the new Tales of Monkey Island.

I assume it (because MI3 and MI4 already have fancy graphics and voice acting) will be developed depending on the success of the Secret remake.

Why would you want to play a pixel hunting point 'n' click game on a gamepad?

Just get it on your PC, easier to play and any PC will play the game.

I wonder how they'll adapt the game for a gamepad.

That's cool. I never played that game and I won't buy it, but I think that's cool. I wish LucasArts would redo Full Throttle. It definitely buy that on XBLA.

You never played this so why wouldn't you buy it? I'm sure it will be cheap so you should give it a shot. This is one of the greatest games ever made.

If you have never played it, why not try it now? A remake like this is a great way to enjoy a classic that graphics would normally keep you from enjoying.

Not to mention that greater sales could lead to a greater chance of seeing the same treatment on other titles (including Full Throttle).

tales from monkey island looks like its in 3d like how part 4 was....meh, i mean 3d is fine but it looks blocky. probably so it works on more casual computers. hopefully its funny...i mean actually funny, unlike part 4.
the remake of original looks very nice as well, i'll definitly have my eye on these.

Those bastiches at Lucasarts still have a complete Sam and Max game rotting away on their shelves.

I won't buy it, because I won't enjoy it. I enjoy buying remakes, reissues or new console ports of older games for nostalgia's sake and to reminisce.

I've bought several old NES, SNES and even PS1 titles for my Wii, Xbox360 and PS3. I bought them for the reasons mentioned above. There's just no way that I'd pick up any 10 - 20 year old title that I never played and enjoy it.

It's an adventure game that depends on writing and logic puzzle solving. Monkey Island is great because of its writing and its mechanics have not aged at all (they are, quite in fact, the same used in MODERN adventure games because well, it's puzzles). In that sense, dismissing it because it's old is like dismissing Hamelt because it's old.

I understand your point, I'm just saying, it doesn't really apply to an adventure game like Monkey Island for the reason stated above, it relies on writing and puzzles not on gameplay mechanics.

Monkey Island doesn't have gameplay mechanics that would age with time. It's a point and click adventure. Plus, if there was anything archaic, they would update it, as they said they are streamlining a lot of the functions/controls of the original game.

I don't think you should limit yourself like that. I never played MI3 until a few months ago, and I enjoyed it. I also just recently played Mega Man 2, a nes game, for the first time (it was my first megaman game) and enjoyed it immensely.

Some games (like Fallout 1 and 2 imo) don't age very well. Otheres, with simple, well designed gameplay mechanics can be played today with little disconnect.

For example, pretty much any JRPG I can easily play for the first time, even if it is old, as the gameplay mechanics are solid, simple, and don't suffer from lack of proper controls. Other games like this are Super Mario World, Yoshi's Island, etc. I played these games for the first time as well recently, and their age wasn't a factor at all.

Don't limit yourself!

The fact that there is a gaping black hole where the adventure gaming genre used to exist makes this updated release play worthy. If nothing else, it will potentially get a whole new generation of gamers exposed to the adventure gaming genre.

I agree with Queasy 100% on this aspect... I wish this genre would make a comeback. I loved the Kings Quest series for example. The Monkey Island games were amongst my favorite games that I can remember. I don't think I ever did finish 3 on the harder difficulty.... I should go back and revisit that one

I can't remember if I finished #4 or not either, but I didn't really like that one as much as the others.. it was full 3D and seemed... lacking somehow compared to the basic point and click predecessors. I think it was that the jokes felt rehashed and old, it just didn't have the same sense of humor as the earlier ones.

First episode of Tales of Monkey Island should be out tomorrow, right?

Hope it is decent.

For the PC, yes. It will probably show up on the Wii on Monday the 13th though that hasn't been confirmed.

I bet I'll beat it that day...

I hope the episodes aren't too short. The original Monkey Island games could take a little, and I hope, with all the episodes added up, it at least takes as long/longer than Curse of Monkey Island
