Ronnie Gardocki, played by David Rees Snell, has a VERY similar voice to Timothy Oliphant. If you are just listening to the voices, a conversation between Shane and Ronnie could easily be from the TV show, Justified.

Absolutely loved the show. The only low point of the series (imo) was the introduction of Forest Whitaker and his goofy ass looking face. Absolutely can't stand this overacting buffoon.

Beyond that though, easily in my top 5 favorite shows of all time. The best part is, because I only remember the major story beats, I can easily go back and rewatch it, and it'll still feel fresh.

This is the only series I've had the patience for to watch every episode. In my opinion it's the best drama there has been.

In my honest opinion, of course.

Ok, just finished the last episode just this second.
Nicely done.
Sort fo weird how you know how immoral Vic is, yet you pull for him.
And, then in the end, you feel sad for him as he watches the police cars go one without him.
For 6 years we have watched him get out of immpossible situation, so it is weird feeling when he cannot figure a way out, or even try.
The show made me wonder about real corrupt cops.
How wide spread is it, and how far do they go?

Rossman,
Thank you.
What do you all say about Fringe?
I think I will watch it now.
I would bet ANYONE who liked the Shield is a big fan of Justified.

Fringe is great but I would watch it from the beginning, it's sort of a cross between "The X-Files" and ... I can't think of the other show.

I've seen a few Justified episodes, it's OK I just couldn't get "into it".

If you're looking for a great drama, check out Damages ... what a great show.

Give Justified a few more episodes. I really think you will like it.
Boyd Crowder (Walton Goggins) is so hateable, yet likeable in that same sort of way Shane was on The Shield. However, the character similarity ends there. Boyd is more complex or psycotic, and possibly less believable than Shane. I find it similar to The Shield because it seems to have the same sort of plots twists where you have no idea how everyone is going to comeout alright, until a couple of secret alliances/double crosses which turns everything upsidedown. The Hero, Raylan Givens, is really simpler than Vic Mackey, but vey likeable for different reasons.

Have you seen The Wire?
That show did not impress me for 5 episodes.
I quit watching it.
But, damn, everyone was always talking about it, so I gave it another try - from the beggining. This time, and I don't know when it changed, but I felt like I was watching the best TV show ever. And, that might have been during season 3.
It is simillar to the Shield becasue it is cop show, but I found it more realistic, complex, and artistic. It seemed to me to be in a different league, and that is saying a lot becasue I loved The Shield.

Oh, the Wire and Deadwood are #2 and #3 for me, but the Shield just hit all the notes those first few seasons and it is one of the few shows to have a finale that actually made sense. You'll see if you check the archives that I called everything in that episode too...

I think I cried when Shane dropped the grenade on Lem...

Sopranos was like that for me. I watched the entire series, and I was on the verge of being hooked, but it never really pulled me in.

In The Wire, I liked the Bunk/McNulty chemistry, the Stringer Bell/Avon Chemistry, Bubbles/Jimmy/Kima of course, and the Omar wildcard.

I actually cared about some of the low level dealers like D'Angelo, Boodie, and Wallace.

I never cared about Kima's girlfriend or assistant DA Perlman.

Carver and Herc grew on me.

Lester Freamon is a character I could not have even named early on, but he became very interesting later on.

Daniels was great.

Jay Landsman's one linners are magic. He is like a John Goodman dry comic genious.

Then you have Rawls and Burrel dropping bombs on all the folks below impeading all their good work, while Rawl mentally eviserates cops for fun.

And, then there is Bunny Colvin and the free trade zone, and later the school reform.

Then blind Butchie - loved him.

Then you have Prop Joe, Cheeze, Weebay, etc...

That is just the season 1 characters. (We ahven't even gotten to Carcetti, Marlo, Snoop, etc..) Oh yeah, and Clay Davis. Shhhhheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeit

Has a show ever had so many fantastic characters? It may simply be difficult to get into because there are so many characters, and each one is important.

what year does was the wire take place?
The "real" stories from which the show was derived took place in the 80's and 90's. So some of the dealers have served time in prison and been released to ironically act on the show. The show takes place in real time from 2002-2006, but the tech seems dated, as if it were from the late 90's. In the pOlice dept, it is because they have crappy funding and therefore old equiptment. The dealers use pagers to avoid wire taps.

Politics have never interested me but I have to say the casting was brilliant.

My two favorite politicians are Tommy Carcetti the sleazy, wheeling and dealing politician.
My other favorite is Senator Clay Davis AKA Mr. Sheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeit.
