I remember back in the early 90's thinking that this show should never and could never end, and even now I still can't believe it's come so far. Say what you want about the later years, but it's right next to Seinfeld as the king of modern day pop culture. It's crazy to think I wasn't even 10 years old when it started airing, now I'm almost 30 and it's still on. As far as sitcoms in my lifetime go, if there's 1 I had to pick that without it the USA would be a different place more so than any other, it would have to be The Simpsons.

It needs to end and soon. America have a habit of running shows into the ground until you can barely stand to watch them any more, this is a perfect example. There are many others. 2 - 4 series is enough for almost any TV program (If it's good enough)

Uh, I was expecting a LOT more than 500 episodes. I remember the 200th was sometime in the 90s.

Wasn't that the one with "Stampy" the elephant?

Oh, OP...it has been a terrible show for a lot longer than it was ever considered "good."

There was a time when this show was excellent. That time was relatively brief and has passed.

I remember reading about that fiasco where Fox wanted to drastically cut all of the voice actor's pay depsite that fact the show has made billions for them. I think that was a few years back.

Cool! wish I could watch. Directv like dish network won't show local channels where I live, sadly.

You must have not watched much of the last 3 or so seasons, while I agree every episode isn't great, a lot of them are still entertaining and damn well funny.

The show continues to be a major money maker for FOX. The show hasn't been good for a long time. I used to be a Simpsons fanatic but I didn't even watch tonight's episode. Heck, I can't remember the last time I watched any Animation Domination series.

I think this season has been a bit better than the recent past.

LOL @ Chief Wiggum to Mayor Quimby - "Want me to spray some of my jerk-off on you?"

That would be pushing the envelop if Family Guy didn't already sodomize it.

Congrats simpsons. Toast in your honor!

When I was in high school it would be school, sports, then get home and by the time dinner would be served simpson's would also be on.

I watched most of the last series and had to stop.

considering you need 5 to get into syndication you would be hard pressed to find somebody saying "no stop at 2"

I agree they tend to run out of steam by then but the objective is 5 seasons.

That may be true, but ya'll in the UK have a nasty habit of not giving shows enough time to run/develop. So many interesting concepts get aired, but last only 4 or six episodes - without a proper ending.

No one should have to tell them to stop, they should write the shows to last a certain number of series then end.

It happens sometimes, but then look at the Office. 2 series and a couple of specials was more than enough.

6 Episodes per series.

Were now in Series 8 with 25 episodes or so per series with the US Office.

This is increasingly becoming the rule in the US as well. There was a time when shows like the X files and star trek TNG could go on to become major hits because they were not yanked when they had poor ratings in the first couple of seasons. These days if a show does not positively EXPLODE out of the gate it may not even get to see the end of it's first. It is a positively brutal market now.
