People said the same thing about Steam years ago.

Honestly, EA, as bad a company as they are, has bent over backwards trying to make Origin as pain-free as Steam is. They want to sell games and content more than they want to disable user's systems with awful DRM.

I've had Origin installed since the EA HumbleBundle, and it's been relatively unobtrusive.

Origin lets you play any or all of your games at the same time. Multiple computers can be playing titles from your library. Had some good free game giveaways lately too, in offers that don't expire in a day or less. EA also has customer service.

Steam says you have to put away the current game before you can play another game which you "own". The new Steam sharing plan is an unexpected gift. The adware/drm UI doesn't crash or hang as often as it used to.

Surprised this wasn't Sims 3. They gave it away for $1 via Humble Bundle a while back. I am sure this one to come after Sims 4 comes out.

As you may know, EA released a full collection of our beloved Sims 2 and decided to give it away free to anyone who had Sims 2 registered in their Origin account... then because of the high demand, they decided to give it to anyone who had an Origin account. What they didn't tell anyone was that they had implemented SecuROM into the mix.

It's not that drastic. You can remove it. Plus it's the digital version not the disc version.
